AnonD-754814, 02 Apr 2020What I'm trying to say is the field is too narrow compared ... moreYep, they pretty much killed the phone by removing the ultrawide from it.
What they now call ultrawide is just a little bit wider than galaxy's main cam.
I was already suffering going from S10+ to P30 Pro, lacking the power of Samsung's real ultrawide.
Again, what's the point of narrow "ultrawide"? Who cares that it's sharper, if it's unusable in interiors and weak in landscapes?

in DxOmark video review. The p40 pro got 98( 100 in still) for AF where the AF is worse than iPhone and some other.

To eliminate corner softness completely, and to get a perfect free-distortion. The downside are overall sharpness will be sacrificed (fuzzy) and its evident on GSMarena studio setup, Mate 30 Pro still got the best in terms of details.

However samples on DxO looks better. Maybe different firmware used.

You should know what you are talking about.

Nick Tagataka, 02 Apr 2020"what will be the 18mm for the wide angle camera?" It's st... moreOh.. I get it now. It's like APSC sensor.
That guy was talking about some pixel binning theory.
If I knew the main was cropping then I wouldn't call it a ultrawide at all. But why did Huawei choose to crop the sensor ?
I believe GMARENA mentioned about 12.5MP images.
Is the phone up-scaling ? Why waste a big sensor then ? So, as the 23mm becomes 27mm .
I'm assuming they are not using almost 18% of the sensor ?

But yeah if the lens wider like others, interesting results still can be achieved.

AnonD-754814, 02 Apr 2020I got that earlier. You just didn't read my reply properly ... moreWhat if one take photo at 50MP?
                    Isn't it ultrawide then?
                    - Then u got two UWA, one with more wider than another. I believe most person will use the 12.5mp mod.

Also the binning theory just made the ultrawide camera even worse. If the 23mm is 27mm for main camera then what will be the 18mm for the wide angle camera?
                    - The crop sensor only happens with main lens. The 18mm remains even after binning.

                    Knows your stuff first.

It's still 18mm. It only crops the image in the main camera for whatever the reason.

Again, Like I mentioned earlier, the focal length is confusing to consumers and advantages to seller brands.
Field of view should be considered. And in this case I follow old Standard.
120 degree field of view. No confusion for different sensors.

AnonD-754814, 02 Apr 2020Yeah you don't get the point too. 23mm . Ultrawide. Uh, so what's exactly your point? Are you trying to argue that the main camera with 23mm equiv. lens is ALSO an UWA camera or 18mm equiv. lens shouldn't be considered as UWA at all? Sorry but I'm quite confused with what you're saying.

AnonD-754814, 02 Apr 2020Like I said when the gap is huge(5mm) with the competitions... moreIt might not be an ultra wide to YOU but it IS in fact an ultra wide. It's narrower than the competitors' but offers higher image quality, and you still get a lot wider FoV than the main camera. After all it's about personal preference rather than which of Apple/Samsung and Huawei's ultra wide is factually better than the other. Such an argument does not exist.
