well its a 2020 phone with latest chip inside . They even remove a lot of services . Do you expect it to lag within 2 months.......... you should wait longer to do so called "long term" review

I don't understand why all the reviewers says there no way to pull down notification by swiping down anywhere on home screen,
There is no need of it, there is a option in security or somewhere where you can enable one tricky feature, swipe down on fingerprint scanner and notification will come and AmazING thing is you don't have to be in homepage to do that।
You can swipe down fingerprint scanner anytime and notification panel comes down

Awesome review, but the lack of Google services makes this a no go for me. Too bad, my P30 is an awesome phone, one of the best phones I had. It's my first Huawei phone and sadly, it might also be the last.

Why everyone keeps insisting on this? Yeah you can use hacks to install Facebook, Instagram, Whatsapp, Maps, Youtube etc, clone app, install apk's whatever. The thing is it won't work as well as being with full support native install. You'll get into problems, people won't sync their accounts properly, the google backup will have problems etc
Not to mention that the average buyer doesn't know how to do these things so they go to the store to buy a new phone or online, no Google? No buy. That's simple.
The new Huawei/Honor phones will be a fiasco in America, Europe etc No youtube reviewers are talking about huawei phones anymore did you notice? Total fiasco.

Wide sngle lens is buggy. Try taking a picture and focus on a near object. Basically try taking a selfie with wide lens and you will see artifacts

Nightmode needs to die, it's about the time for it to go away cause the initial WOW effect has long passed. Now what we are left off with are horribly wrong images, absolute disasters. There is no single image in this low light gallery that makes sense. Awfully bad images with ill tint of yellow/green, these images have nothing to do with depicting night time as it is.

Wait, what? 2 month is called as long-term review now? At least give it 6 month lol.
I only care about the cameras. Its Huawei expertise anyway. Calling it 'oversharpening' looks exaggerate. Judging by the samples, Apple, Samsung & bunch of others chinese phone does it worst. And yes, to this date, Mate 30 Pro sharpening controls are better (maybe the oversharpening part means more than it predecessor) still the king of details, with more mature BM3D RAW noise reduction. Colors control better on P40 than Mate 30. About UWA, still best quality at the moment, but narrower than others (use specifically for videos anyway). And no 50mp AI mode sample? Is it on different firmware?
Anyway the rest of the specs are top notch, let down by the no GMS fiasco. I myself thinking more than twice about buying it because of this lacklustre thing.

Very good review but one thing you missed to explain ! No GMS on P40 Pro is just wrong ;) You need 1 hour maximum to Install GMS on P40 Pro ... And you can almost use every app .... Yeah it will have notification problems but you can Install a App and you get them.
So you should minimum inform the people that its possible to get GMS ;)

After having read the Conclusions of this review, maybe gsmarena should rename this section to: "Conclusion about the lack of GMS" or something of the sort. The Conclusions section drags on and on and on about a well known fact concerning all new Huawei phones. Get over it. Anyone interested in (or even slightly curious about) this phone will simply not care about GMS.
It is understandable that gsmarena takes a holistic approach in their review. However I (and may readers I believe) would have appreciated a more balanced article.

If it did have those I would not buy find x2pro
Now waiting December for mate40pro :) Hope he fixes all that mess Huawei made 2020. Only mate xs is worth it right now.

Looks neat though it looks like other 1000 android smartphones in the wild, great build quality but sadly GMS is at all cost a requirement outside China. One can not simply use backdoor or hacks or install rogue apks as a means to unofficially have GMS. One would rather buy a budget android with GMS (like pixel 3a) and a dedicated portable camera like Sony ZV-1 vlogger camera to bring along travels than to rely on p40. This phone should’ve costed only 700 because of GMS exclusion.

There is no google playstore ! But no problem for me:
gmail: i use gmx with k-9 mail (the only imap app that has not (-) when searching for mails), outlook also quite good
photos: can upload with chrome
keep: can use chrome
music: does not work, copied mp3 and flacs and use vlc, pulsar or musicolet
youtube: per browser or an app called new….
Hangouts and dialer: don‘t work, can be replaced with skype
maps: use browser or here
calendar: use outlook or onecalendar (login on google account)
google drive: can still download in chrome but also use mega and gmx cloud (up to 6 gigs free if activated)
earth: still works
chrome: chrome still works but firefox too (and has good addins)
google translate: still works
google play: pure, apkmirror, apkmonk, huawei appgallery or petal
app transfer: huawei phone clone (from huawei to huawei)
solid file manager license still works after phone clone but u can also use MK explorer
Xodo doesn’t work but use foxit which is very good as well
