If a 1080p panel is showing a fuzzy image on the home screen, then that sounds like a dodgy panel to me.

ALonZo, 03 Jun 2020Ok, let's start off with the display. 4k really is an overk... moreyou try p30 1080p display . You can see the pixelated image even in home screen .

Ok, let's start off with the display. 4k really is an overkill on mobile device. It might look stunning, but even a beautiful 1080p panel can look stunning with the right content. Besides, apps like Netflix and Amazon Prime will not be showing 4k content on this phone, so you are limited to YouTube. And unless you spend time deeply gazing at your display for flaws, you'll be perfectly happy with 1080p content on your phone. When it comes to large devices like a 49" TV for example, that's when you genuinely notice a difference between 1080p and 4k.

The lack of a higher refresh rate is a big omission. Yes, you will need the support for this on gaming and videos to notice the difference when it comes to this area. But for the vast majority of people, we often transition between screens and apps, read content where scrolling is required, we would do this far more than play games and watch videos thoughout the day. So, I would much rather have a QHD or 1080p panel with a higher refresh rate, than a 4k display limited at 60hz.

The camera set up is one area this phone might be the king of phones. But I wouldn't say its competitors are inferior. Cameras on the Oppo Find X2 Pro, the Huawei P40 Pro, the Galaxy S20+, to name a few, have been rated highly.

Finally, the forehead and chin is still an area Sony needs to do more on. We are now at a phase where we can have minimal bezels on phones, so to go from a phone with a near bezel less display to a forehead and chin, is a little step back in time.

Overall, this is a great phone and Sony fans will sing its praises, but at that price I think its competition is a better option considering their overall features.

If you keep the brightness very high with the same apps constantly open yeah it'll leave marks with time, but someone really has to have some bad usage habits to get burn ins within a year.
I've got a 5 years old s5 mini around and there are still no marks of burn in on it. Was used with auto brightness.

Anonymous, 02 Jun 2020I am part of that 1% :DWonder what counts as one.
Does it count when you're nostalgic of Sony walkmans? The casette ones I ran through most of 90s.
What about headphones or TVs? I for one always were fond of premium Sony headphones be it in-ear buds, on-ears or over-ears. To me their out-of-the-box sound stage is hard to match.
Or the old Bravia flat screen at my folks home.
Never got to own a walkman series phone but I know a lot of people vouched for them back in the day and I wished me one but they were a bit pricey for me at the time. Same with Vaio laptops.
Was always following closely the xperia lineup since the very first one ages ago but they always left me wanting with one thing or another (bezel islands - fixed now, missing jack - fixed now, way underperforming camera - fixed now, oversized compared to competition - funny enough the competition fixed that one).

I Love LG but V60 is let down it is bigger than a brick. No good.

                    Don't talk me about IPS

LG G7 screen is amazing, but not brilliant !

OLEDs are better choice now. Since we don't switch phones every 3 years but max 1 year then I don't care of screen burn which occurs later than 1 year at best

Poor Xperia can't even get through the day. This is why they were begging gsmarena not to release battery Results.

It's in the hands of the users unlike Sony which automatically downgrades resolution to conserve battery.

Every phone will get pink burnt OLED screens eventually meaning your argument for 500 is better then 800 nits is useless. You argued out yourself in 2 separate posts :) Thanks for that.

And if you say people don't then don't even mention sony's 4k to be a battery hog since it "doesn't matter" since like you said people don't lower refresh rate or resolution to save battery.

Secondly, well look at what people write here in comments. it's the only flagship of 2020 with 3.5mm jack, with no cuts or pinholes in the screen, and with front-firing stereo speakers. some people will buy it just because of that, and they nearly don't care about other things at all.
