The one thing I like about this phone is the heat suppression on the device. High refresh rates and pro cameras be damned give me longevity on my battery and I'll be hooked on your brand for good

How in the world did you disrespect the LG v60 which matches up well to the Sony Xperia 1 II only missing telephoto.
For $699 it to has a flat screen headphone jack pro manual video audio photo app standard.
It also has a larger oled but only 1080p+.
    60 hz also.
Sony also has the great eye auto focus and a very light skin over android.
But LG hits back with best in class 4 mics standard recording audio app and optional active pen support and optional dual screen support and a 5000mah 2 day battery

Other manufacturers like Oppo with VOOC allow you to game or use the phone while charging and barely produce any heat.
          No battery degradation.

Sony cuts off charging to reduce heat since it uses inferior charging technology like USB PD.
Oppo doesn't need to cut off charging since heat is already kept in check since it uses cutting edge fast charging technology like VOOC.

Don't worry you'll get that feature in 2022 till then keep using inferior charging tech and workaround solutions to keep away heat.

The camera seems to be a total disaster. Horrible tele lens quality, wrong tele specifications, lens of the main camera has very soft corner, HDR algorithm must be turned on manually and can look unnatural when compared with Google and Apple, bad low-light performance, probably no multi frame noise reduction jpg/dng, no DRO intensity settings, no color temperature slider

Reading the article, it seems that the editor was disoriented that he did not know what to say. Another very good Sony smartphone but still mixed because it still dares to stand out from what is usually done on Samsung, Apple and the Chinese.

...the additions of the histogram and other metering tools should be quite obvious in the app to be called "professional".

A lot of the camera usability also depends of the functionalities that this phone will deliver to external camera apps like FiLMiC Pro via camera2api driver and I bet that we won't see anything more than 4K30fps over this protocol.

Tazm0n, 30 May 2020how about to crop down for stabilized 4k/6k video or some o... moresorry mate, have you even seen what footage samsung produces in this gimmicky 8k? there should be 4 times more detail, but there hardly is 0,25 times more.

at the laughable bitrate they pack this "8k" in, it's merely an interpolation.

not even mentioning that with the sensor so slow, they couldn't use full sensor readout because it is over 100ms.

i saw 8k from LG, well that's something, at least their bitrate is higher, and thus much better colors and detail.

Anyway the 8k as well as 4k60 are only needed for postprocessing on a PC, so considering how many people will actually do that, I won't consider having it a serious advantage

I always looked forward to it as no one else really does a audio review and tells you if the phone is loud in headphones or not. Usually sony phones are pretty low in headphones so would be nice to know what the XP1 ii is like as apparently it has a headphone amp.

Gsmarena should think of a better way to review the performance ( Ram management, ui animations, gaming with fps renders, throttling...), instead of relying on benchmarks. Yup, this is not 2014.

There are too many comments from other fanboy brands like they know a lot about technology, if you are not interested in the product why should you comment as if you want someone else to buy what you buy? Enjoy your choice and let others choose their choices, others do not have to come with you who have different tastes in technology? This is Sony anyways.

                                  Dear GSMArena staff,

With all due respects, please stop publishing the below lie related to audio quality in every review:-

" The reason for that is that most phones that arrived for testing were already EXCELLENT in this regard and whatever difference there was, it was marginal and probably INDISTINGUISHABLE TO ANYTHING but our lab equipment. "

I've clarified this enough times in comments and emails (do you read them?) already, so I won't repeat.

3.5 mm jack test removed, ok we've made peace with it... but don't lie so much, you're journalists, for God's sake! You're communicating to lakhs of people!
Just because you repeat a lie 100 times, it won't become truth.

If you want a debate, tell me although even I'm a employed, busy man.

Thought there would have been more coverage of it's audio features. I get that they dropped this from the standard review template but it's something of a niche feature set like the LG V series or the S pen in the note line up

3.5 mm Jack, microSD slot, rectangular 21:9 flat OLED display (would be better with QHD 90Hz but that's not very important for me) with no garbage notch, punhole or other distractions, decent camera, reasonable battery and beautiful, bricky design that clearly stands out among all boring chinese phones these days. Looks like the best flagship smartphone in 2020, isn't it?

Well, to me it is, but there are still some software-based drawbacks to complain about. What I'm talking about is the clearly lacking Cinema Pro App. The most obvious problem is the 21:9 aspect ratio which only gives us cropped "4K-" resolution of 3840x1644 instead of typical 16:9 3840x2160 suitable for most uses such as youtube, documentaries, everyday recording etc. 21:9 will be appreciated by only a few % of users I guess. Second problem are the framerates. While I really appreciate the addition of 60fps and 25fps in 4K, I'm really missing 50fps option, which would be very useful for users in Europe where PAL framerates are the preferred setup. With my 4K 50fps workflow it would require a lot of post-production work to fit these available framerates in my projects and the result are never going to be as smooth as the native 4K50. And here comes the third drawback of the app, which is the complete lack of metering tools. While Photo Pro at least gives us a very useful option of showing the luminance histogram, I don't see anything like that in Cinema pro. Without metering tools it will be notoriously easy to over or underexpose our shots and to me, the addition of luma histogram as well as overexposure zebras (similar to these available Sony AX-series camcorders, they are really decent) something

Can be used on other apps too. Too bad other companies want to sell you batteries every year.
