very good battery life, interestingly does better at photos compared to the 1ii (there might be software updates for the 1ii by now. wouldnt expect it to be a hardware issue if its the same setup). Will see what the pricing will be and decide what phone to get (my current S7 edge is really starting to show age haha)

I never implied that Samsung's solution for "telephoto" is practical or other companies should copy what they do, ever.

Have you seen the 8k footage from Samsung? Have you seen its color? It's detail?... If the focus ever managed to fall in place, you'd see how miserably useless that 8k is.
Sony installs 3 sensors and makes them equal, and enables access to 3rd party apps. Samsung doesn't even have same color and white balance rendition through all of its modules, let alone the access to the telephoto lens in 3rd party apps.

The greater also serves for the lesser, enough said.

Gsmarena says that this means 1 μm pixel size. This is impossible for the phone thickness.

3840 x 2160 + 2x digital zoom = 1920 x 1080
Digital zoom , you cut vertical and horizontal pixels.
You cannot keep 4K.
You cut each side in half.
Why do you think the super steady more from ultra wide is just Full Hd?
Because it crops 2x to match the FL of main camera.
Also, AF-C does 10fps for 16mm and 70mm.
There is no way it could do it with 64MP.
Samsung just uses it to say phone can do 8K.
Soon they will drop , like done to S20 FE.

- more power used
- more heat
- damages oled faster than lower brightness (increases speed of chemical reactions that degrade organic compounds)
It is not like LCD you can use 100% brightness all the time.
Sony brought to CES2018 a panel for TV with 10000 nits. You will never see this for oled for obvious reason.

Is anyone else perplexed by Sony's ToF sensor? It doesn't seem to do anything then, or not much? Anyone care to explain
I've been following Sony phones for a while and this seems to be a recurring thing. Even when they first added or dropped other sensors such as the Laser Autofocus sensor on the XZ it never seemed to make much difference

Anonymous, 28 Sep 2020My xperia has about 790 nits.
Too overkill.
My backup... moreLol my Mate 20 is at 780 nits and I dont feel any overkill feeling at all. Very useful in bright sunlight environment (OLED still better though). It all depends on how good the auto brightness sensor are.
If 5ii max brightness at 700 nits at least, it'll be perfect. 532 nits are just... average, for a flagship.

Anonymous, 28 Sep 2020To me 20MP is more than enough. But:
- more MP = more ... moreActually big pixels 12mp + hi res 64mp is what samsung use, though 3x is not great for 4K but stills are sharp and with f2 great in low light, at 2x its 16mp also. Taking 64mp raw is also option.
Sony got great colors but lack good enough processing, less detail in 12mp is obvious, only raws can save it.
Rolling shutter is bad, but lack of resolution is worse, even more if samsung gives you both.
