Thanks for the quick review! I was waiting for a long time for the Xperia 5 II. I'm due to replace my S8 and wanted a compact flagship(narrower than 70mm), the only other option this year seems to be the S20. The Sony is almost the perfect phone for me...almost. Since I work outside I rely on a bright display, which sadly the Sony doesn't seem to have. I really hope(if at all possible) that Sony pushes an update to increase brightness, otherwise it seems I have to go with the S20.

xperia mobiles is best andriod phone in world ..quality for phone like apple expect OS

Making popcorn for reading 1k comments on this review

        I will pre-order very soon 😎

Well, that review was out in a blink of an eye, wasn't it? I-... Fascinating at its peak 😄
          .
Anyway, I highly stan and adore Xperia 5 II, but my choice will stay at Xperia 1 II or their halo-flagship lineup when I'll buy it regardless those comments & upcoming replies that forcing me to choose anything else, due to I'm holding on with XZ Premium currently, and 1 II is XZP's great ancestor, so it's the same family, therefore I chose 1 II (yes, I consume 4K contents on my phone, so 1 II is suited me better than 5 II)

Shanti Dope, 28 Sep 2020Now that's how you properly do a 120Hz display in FHD+... moreAll Samsung is doing is 1080p@120 :D not to mention on a brighter display ... like twice as bright.

Now that's how you properly do a 120Hz display in FHD+. Take notes, Samsung ☺️

Decent review, but some complaints kind of created out of thin air to be honest. The same thing happened to 1ii. It deserves a bit higher score in my opinion.

stop calling it compact because it is NOT by any means, otherwise you are paid by SONY to say that.

Great phone, but the lack of wireless charging is a major disappointment - not just because of convenience, but because of phone's service life - you simply can't beat physics, material fatigue exists and if you have to plug and unplug everytime you recharge, the connector will eventually give in and you're both going to lose a water resistance and the charging cable will start to wiggle until it eventually breaks.

The battery life is excellent but it can't justify 250€ higher price tag compared to Galaxy S20, especially considering it lacks in other areas (said lack of wireless charging or QHD display)... But anyway not a bad phone, maybe it will be an interesting buy once the price drops to €5xx.

too many typos in the article

Dull display and no wireless charging makes this a very expensive "small" phone - I'll pass again Sony.

YouKnowIt, 28 Sep 2020The HK site doesn't have those as the gift, but a SD c... moreThey are shiping 15.10.2020 - so I guess we won't have to wait 1/2 year to get this one :)
BTW that HK deal sounds much better.

Fearghast, 28 Sep 2020Well SO MUCH FOR THAT GREAT ToF, right Sony? :D Google eve... moreThe HK site doesn't have those as the gift, but a SD card and case plus a discount off other things like headphones... Each market looks like they will be different.

Well SO MUCH FOR THAT GREAT ToF, right Sony? :D
Google event is 30.9.2020, Xperia 5 II is already up to preoder with boring WF-1000XM3 (but much better than Cloud II crap and COD lootbox) ... so two more days and I am preordering this one.
THX GSM for those camera test!

Ah ha! Why did Sony suddenly flip from it's usual stance of "smaller than the competition" battery to large? Could it be because they now try to force users to limit the charge to 85% so in the real world the comparison is to think of it as a 3400 battery? Or is it a dimmer screen again but with the bigger battery users will be able to slide the brightness up from the 15% most people have their Xperia's set to in order to last the day :) Either way, my XZ1 is crying out to be replaced and this is the one to do it.

Shame they went for rounded sides instead of flat.

So basically: Mostly the same old pros and cons from Xperia 1 II, but in a smaller package.

+Great battery life in both display refresh rates
                                    +120Hz option
                                    +Flagship-level performance
                                    +Good speakers
+Easily one of the most flexible manual camera apps, for both still photos and videos
+Accurate eye AF for the main camera
                                    +A headphone jack
+Very rare 4K120fps HDR slow mo recording

                                    -No variable display refresh rate
-Embarrassing display brightness that is comparable to Galaxy S7
-Photos are oversharpened during the day and too soft at night in any camera apps
                                    -Only OK selfie image quality
                                    -No HDR for portrait mode
-No 960fps or even 240fps super slow mo which makes it rather impractical for shooting the actual "slow" motion video.

I feel like 4.4 is a reasonable score given for this device even though there are still some issues mainly around its camera that Sony needs to iron out in their future products. Great review overall.

That's quite quick for this phone review considering that it'll be released mid October.

Finally, a phone that I could look up to getting one.
