Anonymous, 05 Aug 2021Same way you not not pay more than 150 euros on phones like... moreRedmi K40 pro is well worth its price. Xiaomi doesn't cheat customers like Sony in order to make profits. Their displays aren't dim, the 33W fast charging lives up in the real world unlike your batterycare gimmick.

    Still no wireless charging?!!!!
    Wtf...

And I was waiting for this to buy!

Tann Hauser, 05 Aug 2021"Plane of focus doesn't have anything to do with ... moreNo, you're still not getting Rkm's point. Unfortunately you don't even seem to realise that, though.

Tann Hauser, 04 Aug 2021{facepalm} I havent seen any other OEM having these ToF ... more"First you negate iToF helping with autofocus"
        I didn't.

"then misinterpret the actual article when provided"
I didn't, but you did. Sadly the problem lies in your comprehension skill (or extremely severe lack of), not mine.

"get a better understanding of what it can actually be used for, especially the object tracking stuff"
I acknowledge what it does and I (and others who are replying to you) apparently know about it more than you do, and that's why I didn't reach an utterly ridiculous conclusion like your "multiple focal points processing to achieve miniscule multiple blur effects" bullcrap. The links you cited don't even back up your claim yet you keep assuming they do even after being pointed out. If the phone actually had it as a feature then obviously Sony would've stated it *somewhere* in the product description page, but in actuality there is no mention of the depth map data gathered from an iToF sensor consistently being used for faux bokeh effect outside the portrait mode.

"AF disabing in PhotoPro AUTO mode, will make corner softness disappear"
Let's put it this way then. Do you have any idea how problematic it truly would be to have a blurs on random portions of an image (based on whatever the low resolution depth information iToF sensor could capture) in a pro mode for ANYONE who is even slightly serious about photography? And do you legitimately believe that Sony is actually stupid enough to include such a feature without a single toggle in a camera app or any explanation on it whatsoever when it could easily upset many of its users in case they found it out??? What would be the point having this feature when the portrait mode already does exactly the same while also allowing you to control how much blur you apply?

The dumbest logic ever, hands down. Sony's engineers must be cringed out if they're reading your nonsense.

I'm happy I bought ZenFone 8 a few months ago instead of waiting for this phone.

I wouldn't pay more than 500 Euros for Xperia 5 III.

Anonymous, 04 Aug 2021Most people aren't interested in dim panel, especially... moreBatterycare is nothing but a marketing term just like the 240hz interpolated refresh rate.
They never live up to in the real world. Afcourse, Sony brand boys would tell you otherwise.

geek-a-contra, 04 Aug 2021tell you what: currently i have a really cheap smartphone, ... moreIt's plenty bright for you since you haven't experienced anything better.

Just like people who are stuck on 60hz display think they are fine with it, until they experience high refresh rate display as daily driver.
Just like people, a few years back, thought 720p display was enough. They changed their tune after experiencing 1080p and qhd displays.

Besides, this is a flagship phone, it's maxing out under 600 nits in Max auto mode. That's terrible stats for a flagship in year 2021.
Even last year's Poco F2, which was a budget flagship could go beyond 800 nits in Max auto mode.

                              !?

                              God, all mighty.
Obviously it has something to do with manual only focus in sensor then.

                              Ok, fella.
                              Live well.

There is one thing that the Sony has and the Asus doesn't, and that's a really stupid omission - the barometer. If you go out on the hills, lakes or rivers phone barometers are one of the biggest deals out, because they give you warning of storms as well as letting you know your change in elevation on the hills.
For me it's going to be the 5 III or the Pixel 6 - I can even sacrifice the SD slot but I must have my barometer.

Other manufacturers not cutting costs. Sony is notorious for giving half baked specs.
Their 30W wired charging is also a scam, heats up a lot and is slower than Galaxy 25W charging. So much for batterycare

Have the Sony Xperia 5 II and love it .. battery life easy 5 days, had 7 too.

a good phone but whats the point? it wont be launched timely, wont be launched globally, wont be launched at the right price.

and above all there are still some compromises that user will be making such as the 21:9 ratio is not really a compact one, not quite bright display, using SD888 with all the throttling, bad low light photography, no dedicated SD card slot for dual sim users and the software support will max out at 1 or 2 years.

strongly wish sony makes a decent compact phone next year or by this year end. this phone is not ticking some key requirements to be spending so much money over.
