It only has a hybrid dual sim - sd slot and not a full tripple slot. This is definitely a negative point and should be noted as such. Certainly a dealbreaker for me - what pitty and a completely unnecessary omission.

Tann Hauser, 06 Aug 2021Nope.
Your fundamental knowledge of smartphone camera opti... moreYou're so confused man.
Your source is just 'trust me bro'.
Bionzx like all other image processors does luminescence, color and noise processing, but doesn't add depth. That would be weird.
None of us said that DSLR and xperia process the same way. I don't know where you got that.
And most importantly, whether it be a small mobile camera / interchangeable lens cameras/ film camera or even a goddamn telescope, focusing is done with optics and everything else is there to assist. And depth of field is a direct property of lens and image plane (sensor / film).By your logic film cameras won't have any depth of field.
Anyway, have a happy weekend.

An OLED display cannot be "washed out" in the first place since individual pixels turn off while displaying black unlike LCD (whose contrast is reduced even further as the brightness rises). Whoever claiming so has no fundamental idea of how display panels behave at different brightness settings.

Much more impressed with 3 hr of SoT extra with that more than satisfying 60 hz screen.

Rkm, 05 Aug 2021His fundamental understanding of photography is wrong. Ther... moreNope.
Your fundamental knowledge of smartphone camera optics and shortcommings is flawed here.
You are actually claiming there is no additional depth of field faux processing in smartphone photography to compensate for its fixed lens apperture, and is the same as proper DSLR camera processing.
I shoot on my 5 II, and I am certain that is not the case.
Nor is it the case on whatever phone you re using.
5 II activates numerous AF focal points (green rectangle thingies), gets to focus, establishes its depth of field, and only after I take the shot, I see extra bokeh blur enhancements not prior visible on my viewfinder. And the "optical based focal plane" sometimes does behave weirdly incoherent. Must be my rough bad toxic Sony lens.("facepalmer")
Yah, the thing is called BionzX processing.
With depth data gathered by iToF on 1 III, active in actual camera app while taking the photo, not just some Portrait or Live focus mode as on others, one seems to get quite different out of focus bokeh area effects across the shot, as noticed but not quite comprehended by Nickie there.
So, even if a seriously flawed conclusion that processing and optics is same on Xperia as is on a proper DSLR, I couldnt "agree" with you more here.
Seems Xperia is a proper DSLR camera according to you guys then.
And we certainly wont ever agree on this subject, so I'll leave it at that here. You guys and I have spmd this thread long enough.

There is no washed out images at 800 nits or higher brightness.
It's just another figment of your imagination or maybe... That's what happens on your dim Xperia when pushed to higher brightness. You are clearly projecting the issues of your display onto Mi 11 series.

Nick, 06 Aug 2021Why is the 5 III's telephoto sharper than the 1 III... moreSimple. The 5 use the same camera and software algorithms as the 1. While the 1 launched first and get tested and reviewed earlier, the 5 come later will be more refine in term of software, which will also be update later to the 1. All these reviews of Sony phones are all done with the early software state where the phone hasn't even on sale someplace in the world so do take it with a grain of salt

Why is the 5 III's telephoto sharper than the 1 III's? gsmarena noted the same for 5 II vs 1 II
This is very annoying as I was hoping to get the 1 III but it's more expensive, has worse battery life and a worse telephoto camera
Why hasn't Sony fixed this?! It's been a year now and they haven't addressed this glaring issue. They must know about this?
Could the ToF sensor be to blame? Does the ToF have any benefits at all to be honest?

Nick Tegrataker, 04 Aug 2021Conclusion: Get this over Xperia 1 III if you don't mi... moreI've been preaching for Sony to finally move on from Samsung's panels to their neighbor Sharp IGZO Pro OLED panels. I know I heard somewhere that Sharp decided to stop selling them to OEMs (they sell the LCD panels still) but it couldn't hurt to see if Sharp is willing to make the exception. Sharp is the creator and leader of variable refresh rate. Throw in Sony's X2 (upgrade for next year...hopefully...my guess) image chip for 4K@120Hz w/ 240 or 270Hz motion blur reduction and better touch sampling would make next year's panel SO much better than these. Considering we could see the Mark IV (or V) reach $1,400 next year at the minimum, they need to upgrade some parts and the display with speakers/DAC are two major ones.
