[deleted post]I wonder if your last phone was 'galaxy' ace or something. If not, can't help you. 'Over sharped stupid images'. Good God, even for a troll your vocabulary is lacking.

Hi GSM arena, I think the video quality is not really good. I mean, could it be that it is an unfinished software? Logically speaking if the main camera can snap good details in it's pictures, the video should as well...
Matter of fact, when reviewing other videos on this phone, the video quality is way better. Could that be just a "bug" you think?

"Main camera video quality isn't up to scratch."

THANK YOU! Finally someone said this. It is so frustrating seeing the footage of the Pro-I being really quite mediocre while the comment sections are always filled with annoying Sony fanboys acting like it is the greatest achievement in the history of mankind. As a Sony owner myself (Xperia 5.2), it is crystal clear to me that Sony dropped the ball and is getting LG'd within 1 or 2 generations. Mark my words.

Hopefully the 18-bit video and huge HDR capabilities of the new Snapdragon and MediaTek SoCs help improve dynamic range along with detail and low light capabilities of cameras.

TL;DR: Computational photography = always good, post-processing = usually bad unless well restrained.

I think everyone, especially Sony here needs to realize that computational photography is NOT the same as post processing. Many people confuse these two. It is absolutely possible to have lots of computation photography with little to NO image processing (such as HDR+ RAW is Pixels or ProRAW in iPhones).

Computational photography means capturing more data (i.e. capturing and stacking multiple frames) to reduce noise and blur, increase dynamic range and get an overall better picture. If you want same quality photo with just one frame (i.e. no computational photography), it can only be obtained with much bigger sensor only found in professional equipment.

Post processing on the other hand refers to changing sharpness, noise reduction, saturation etc on a photo that's already been taken (i.e. no new frame/data is added) and it indeed is a lossy process.

If you want natural looking photo, don't disregard computation photography, rather disregard poor. aggressive post-processing that smartphone manufacturers shamelessly push nowadays. These poor, aggressive post-processing hides the photographic potential that today's smartphones with increasing sensor sizes and fast processors are capable of.

Despite it's name, it's important to realize that Google's HDR+ is all about computational photography, NOT at all about post-processing. If you don't believe me, get a modded port of GCam that lets you control post-processing. If you keep HDR+ (i.e. Google's branding of computational photography) on and reduce the post-procssing parameters, you'll end up with incredible looking photos. You can expect DSLR like performance if your phone got large sensor (such as Mi 11 ultra, Pixel 6/6 pro etc). Even with normal sensor sizes, it's a night and day difference.

The... moreYour photos are pretty horrible (if You really want GOOD mobile camera photos, 808 or Lumia 1020 are ONLY way to go, not this over processed 'computational photography'). Then again, GSMArena is using Auto mode only and this Sony phone isn't meant for that.

Good. Now, can we have ProRes or $200 version with h265 at 140mb/s? Prosumer video cameras tend to go near the 300mb/s h264 range. Cinema quality, please double that, with at least 4:2:2 12 bit each type. But, it should be $500, and have 4k 50 fps, 12 bit, 4:2:2 at 140mb/s h265. Then I can go and film soccer games with it. Pity no Sanyo any more.

                  Anyway, 8k version?

At half the price, it would still be too expensive. You can buy a Sony A7 II full frame camera for $1398, new. The super narrow display also make no sense. Is this a pro camera phone or a social media thumb browser phone?

Congratulations to all the camera engineers in the comments lmao, amazing how many specialists we have here.
On a more civilised note, nice phone, at least someone doesn't follow stupid design trends, and make usable phones. The amount of connectors, functionality... just a fantastic piece. And love the return of the strap attachment point, as well as the no-eject-pin sim tray.

The photos need so much work just to make them look good.

Compare the photos side by side with X3 GT's main camera output and you'll see a significant difference:

                          You decide. 😅

Pro-I's advantage is the RAW files it produces. It's for pros and experts to process.

I don't get it. Just buy a decent camera instead of an overpriced phone. I don't understand having a 6.5inch 4k display either. To get decent brightness you need way higher light output that stresses the battery way harder just to see something that won't look better than a well calibrated 1080p display at the same size. Atleast the ram, storage, headphone jack, high fps and fast processor is nice.

It's a good phone, but the price could be a bit lower, even if it's targeted towards a more professional audience.

It's a missed opportunity. For the price, the camera hardware specs could have been much better, for example:
-23/24mm with 24 megapixels, 98mm² sensor + f/1.95 OIS lens, similar to Xiaomi 11 Ultra
-23/24mm low light camera with a resolution between 6-12 megapixels, either 72mm² sensor + f/1.57 OIS lens (similar to Vivo X70 Pro Plus) or again 98mm² + f/1.95 OIS lens
-50mm with 24 megapixels, 18mm² sensor + f/1.6 OIS lens, similar to Vivo X70 Pro Plus
or alternatively an additional 23/24mm camera with 98mm² Bayer sensor + f/1.95 OIS lens, but with approximately 110 megapixels for lossless zoom
-103mm with 24 megapixels, 31mm² sensor + f/3.5 OIS lens, similar to Google Pixel 6 Pro
-250mm with approximately 15-19 megapixels, 12mm² sensor + f/4.4 OIS lens with effective diameter of 6.5mm, similar to Huawei Mate 40 Pro Plus
                                  -macro camera

Even the user interface has issues that could have been avoided:
-No shutter button in pro mode
-Apparently no Dro levels, which Sony cameras offer. That's a huge disadvantage, a Pixel 6 Pro offers Dro levels (it's the shadows slider of the 6 Pro)
-Apparently no maximum exposure time setting, even though this is most of the time more important than an exposure time setting. Some Sony cameras offer a maximum exposure time setting as far as I know. It's very easy to program such a feature.
-Apparently no noise reduction setting, even though Sony cameras offer a noise reduction setting.

Overpriced and doesn't have the best camera, with horrible battery
