I will never buy something like this but I really like how Sony make it's own way and stick to it's own style in this industry that is flooded with a lot of exactly same phones with just different names

nothing special for the price you pay, a total injustice! mediocre battery life, images are more or less on par with the traditional flagships. only low-light images are praiseworthy. and you get a tiny narrow screen too!

All I wanted from this phone is all it already has plus 'Adaptive Refresh Rate' capped at 120hz to save battery life.

Still hoping Sony goes IGZO/LTPO next year.

The camera is good but it's not $1600 good
... moreLooking at the photos from this Xperia against the Xiaomi and the iPhone, if I have to be brutally honest... I much prefer the photo from this Xperia. Unlike the other two, I don't see any kind of oversharpening effect from this Xperia at all. Dare I say it, it looks stupidly natural and realistic. Also, the Xiaomi's bokeh at f/2.0 is all wrong compared to the Pro-I when looking at the flowers. So despite the more vivid colour and somewhat better dynamic range from the Xiaomi, I'd pick the Xperia shot out of the three.
As for battery life, 4K resolution and 120Hz screen refresh rate is not going to be a battery-sipping combination. That said, I'm surprised to see a better battery endurance rating from this Pro-I than the 1 Mk3 despite the same screen and battery capacity.

And these are high-quality photos, from 1 inch sensor camera? A camera with an inch sensor, cannot show grass detail texture .. The price of this camera must no higher $1000

DMX, 02 Dec 2021Now you have the same thing that LG ends up dying, times ha... moreLG had done a lot of innovation over the years, and yet people weren't bothered by them because they still believed in the same old fake news. Don't even make me mention popular sponsored YouTube sellout shills who only prefer the popular top brands (I'm looking at you, Marques Brownlee and Mrwhosetheboss). It made me question why the Google Pixel lineup still survives despite being sold in even smaller countries than LG phones.

For such a huge sensor, the detail in the pictures is quite weak and does not match the cameraphone, which offers higher quality than other smartphones.
I see no reason to pay such a huge sum of $2000 for a camera, that does not give you the other level of details, like compact Pro cameras, and Xperia Pro-I does not even have even 5x optical zoom ..
Alas, Sony cannot create the heir to the legendary Nokia 808 Purview ...
Sony's algorithms, still are very weak, and this is noticeable

"If anything, we'd say they are actually softer, and we're willing to blame the inevitable effects of diffraction at small apertures for that."
The impact of diffraction should be nearly not measurable at f/4, so if something is softer, then it should be rather due to other reasons.

It is sad that smartphone makers that removes feature and bring boring design can have great marketing for more consumer to buy their products whereas legendary brands like Sony, LG & Nokia brings innovation, wacky feature and great design but, terrible marketing, terrible pricing and terrible service.
There's always a reason why big youtuber such as MKBHD, Mrwhosetheboss, Unbox Therapy, Technical Guruji and the Verge would pick overrated phone like iPhone and Samsung. It's because audience would buy a phone that's easily recognisable, easy to resell and easy to find accessories. Sony, LG and Nokia would never give you wide varieties of accessories and keep their market share niche.
But here's where that makes me astonish. Consumer would want to sacrifice an essential feature just for a mainstream feature like iP68, wireless charging, OLED/AMOLED. it's like you "must" have that feature just to be the best phone of the year by removing the essential feature like headphone jack and microSD card. The worse part is consumer knew that those basic feature are important to have on every phone, but because of fanbois and reviewers attracting us in a way of "forcing" us to buy an overrated phone from a consumer's mentality, smartphone makers are able to get away with it.
End of the day, if any of my friends tells me what phone should they buy, i'd recommend them to buy iPhone or Samsung because they are the mainstream phone that are commonly use and it's the easiest phone to recommend.

Looking at the photos, it does show much better quality than the Xperia 1 Mk3 and also the Xperia 5 Mk3. While the Pro-I is easily the best camera I've seen on an Xperia phone, I'm still not sure about this phone's $1,800 price tag. I mean, that is the cost of two brand new Xperia 5 Mk3.

"The folks over at DPreview.com have a table with equivalent f-numbers that shows the iPhone 13 Pro narrowly beating the Xperia Pro-I despite having a smaller sensor - it just has a much faster lens. They don't mention the Mi 11 Ultra, but that one's equivalent aperture works out to f/6.0 on a full-frame camera"
Amazon's subsite Dpreview isn't completely correct here. The equivalent f-number of the iPhone 13 Pro is not 6.8 regarding the total amount of light per time. It is rather 6.65 due to the different aspect ratio and actually it's even more complicated due to vignetting. The equivalent f-number of the 11 Ultra is 5.8. The Vivo X70 Pro Plus has 5.45. The Sharp Aquos R6 has 5.2 , but without OIS and at 23mm the Aquos R6 has only 6.3.

"The correlation isn't strict but the optical format or sensor type is roughly 1.5 times the actual diagonal of the sensor."
"The correlation isn't strict"
That's the point. For example, a 1/1.31" type sensor is not (2.55/1.31)² = 3.8 times as large as a 1/2.55" type sensor, but only 3.0 times as large. That's why one should never use the name of the sensor size type. These are just names. It's like writing n8 = 8*n for "night".
