What some call apologizing I call being realistic. Exynos was expected, wasn't it?? Made up theories about successors and upgrades are just theories. What the heck were you expecting, a flagship chip? (this reminds Redmi Note fans) If they release a good model, people go expect even more in next model or call it a mistake, or write long posts about it. Instead of simply buying the good one. (that's what I did, so I'm checkin now) Well, A53 - SoC is midrange relevant and as the new model it gets long SW support (here we go, an upgrade). The rest is up to potential buyer/s ... Agree (as mentioned below) review managed to stay balanced.

I honestly feel that for 400$ or € a phone should supply a smooth user experience all around.
Sadly, this is not the case.

Rocky, 15 Apr 2022Nah. That's not how this place works. These people are... moreNot true.
I really waited for this device, coming from s10 I saw the a52s as a great value and jack of all trades and was really curious for the a53 because of the software support policy.
While many reviews smacked the a53 on its head mainly due to the cpu I bided my time waiting for this review on gsmarena hoping the will say something to redeem the device and motivate me to go get it.
I can honestly say it's a great disappointment...
If they only went with a better cpu and perhaps keep the headphones jack I believe it would've mattered to many potentials clients.

Many ppl don't get how relatively bad exynos chipsets are. I can attest from my s10 helming the 9820 exynos.... it's really...lame.

Anonymous, 14 Apr 2022I wonder what makes you guys think there will be any A53s? ... moreNah. That's not how this place works. These people aren't even potential buyers. They're just here to diss and whine about devices and brands. A helpful discussion thread is nowhere to be found on this site.

The Samsung A52-S was a big mistake by Samsung.
They sold a device at a great price, with a great screen, great processor, great battery, great software/updates, good camera, good design/build, and features people absolutely love (headphone jack, microSD slot, charger in-box).
...it was a big mistake because this was a very consumer-friendly device, basically a flagship-killer (eg ZTE Axon 7), so it was not good for making big profits for the Samsung executives.

The A53 is the successor to the A52-S, and they need to be compared. Even older are the A52-5G and the A52, and the A51.... and these aren't the models which they should be compared to.

This new Samsung A53 introduces a cheaper processor (made by Samsung), which is slower and has less battery life. They've removed the charger from the box. They've also removed the Headphone Jack. Luckily they haven't removed the microSD slot, but that is next to be axed. And to wrap it all up, this device has a higher RRP. Despite the fact the A52-S is continually on-sale with discounts.

I urge people to keep their Samsung S10+ (or Samsung Note 9) device, or if they have something equivalent or better. The best you can do is to get the Samsung A52-S, or perhaps a Sony 5.2, 5.3, or 1.3 if you're sticking to the Android Ecosystem. Don't get any of those 2020-2022 flagships which come with lots of compromises. Wait until we get the second-generation of ARMv9 processors that are designed by the European Team.

Penk2856, 14 Apr 2022The successor to the A52s is the A53sYou Samsung apologists keep using this same old argument without thinking it really doesn't make any sense. If the A51 was a direct successor of the A50s, then what makes you think A53 is not a successor of the A52s? How can you be sure there will be a A53s, when Samsung skipped the 's' model for the A51 in the past?

Entry level processor for premium price. Designed to fail.. DOA

This phone Is all round good (if u have it and use it u will realise that) but this is why I keep saying OEMs shuold stop updating lineups because of updating, they should update when there are reasonable upgrades(not necessarily huge) and very very very tiny downgrades that don't count as deal breakers.

Even though it's a 2year gap it's worth it, when launching too much too soon they begin to attack themselves causing problems like this

How is this phone competitive at almost 400€? The Poco F3 is better at 260.

I wonder what makes you guys think there will be any A53s? Am I missing some info, anything concrete? If not, that's just a big MAYBE nothing more. Sometimes things happen to go right and that's A52s. I think for now it's right to see S separately, as they just decided to release it at some point and for some reason in 2021.

Now the usual Samsung offer continues with this year's lineup A53 etc. that's it. Nothing really surprising about A53, except missing charger in midrange (so you get new feature lol). Sadly for some users, ongoing trend of missing jack's included. They'll sell them anyway thanks to name, popularity of series, and so on.

Now what's the point of endless discussion about various ways of comparing A53, anyway. Is it similar or worse to last year's A52, A52s?? Is it a downgrade?? So what! If they sell it as the new model, it simply is the new model! Will be in stores instead of older ones, will get longer support.... So let's say in fact we got similar or worse new model here. Just buy it or buy not if you don't like it, and story ends!

Meske, 14 Apr 2022I would reealy like to see GSMA from now on,as a final test... moreCome on man! That would mean they'd have to do more than copying synthetic numbers from some synthetic number collection site. Testing stuff that are being reviewed? Ha! This isn't the olden days.

Penk2856, 14 Apr 2022The successor to the A52s is the A53sTo everyone who keeps saying this BS, the Galaxy A52s was a small refresh of the A52 5G. Don't you agree that the full-on successor should at least be better than the refresh?

This isn't like Apple's regular and Pro situations on their iPhones. The Pro models are higher-end products than their regular models, so the iPhone 13 not being an all-around upgrade compared to the 12 Pro is forgivable. Even in Samsung's own lineup, the S22+ not being an all-around upgrade over the S21 Ultra is also forgivable, given the lower position in the lineup.

The fact of the matter is that the A53 is a straight-up downgrade compared to the A52s, and the MSRP is higher (you can't use inflation here because it's been six months). It ditches the headphone jack (for me a small, but still disappointing downgrade), doesn't significantly upgrade the cameras, is slower, posts very similar battery life in spite of that, has slower burst charging due to the larger batter capacity (even if the overall charging time is a few minutes faster, not that it helps much). The only real upgrade is the support duration, which is definitely nice, but far from a deal maker.

Even compared to the A52 5G (non-s) which you guys keep insisting the A53 is the successor to, it's still a downgrade. Everything in the last paragraph still applies with the exception of the slower part, but another argument is that the A53 isn't a gaming phone. While this is poor logic in and of itself, these two arguments are contradictory. You can't defend the A53 off the fact that its "real" predecessor is the non-s A52 when the only difference is the speed.

Please stop using obviously dumb logic to defend this obvious downgrade of a phone.
