The Pixel has more noise in lower light, but it preserves a bit more detail in brightly-lit areas. Samsung does better than both in preserving detail.

But buy whatever you want, by all means. I guess most of the world like what you describe as "puke".

Why does GSMArena always review china ware that isn't sold anywhere?

Leica Authentic mode all the way for me. The photo quality is so much better than Leica Vibrant mode. I can clearly see the oversharpening effect on Vibrant mode, but not on Authentic mode. Kudos to Leica for such great processing work.

P.S The Night Mode photos aren't too bad, but I'm not sure if I prefer it on this phone over the Vivo X80 Pro.

Anonymous, 18 Jul 2022The 12S Ultra does better in certain low-light conditions, ... moreDefine 'better balanced'. If this is about flattening the contrast then hardening edges to hide blurs, then I am here to tell you that I am not a fan of such a fake style of photography. The 12s series actually respects contrast and preserves the mood of the scene, which is similar to Sony's style and fundamentally different from oversharpened HDR puke that iPhone and Pixel produce all the time.

Camera articles on xda are mostly written by a guy who wrongly believes a larger sensor will lead to overexposure and automatically collect more light than smaller ones. Larger sensors are in fact less prone to lost highlights and noisy shadows than smaller ones when they have the same resolution due to higher signal ratio. Leica coating is to do with reducing lens flare, not exposure compensation.

With the inherent limitations of phone lenses, large sensors can produce blown highlight detail and this is evident from the S12 Ultra shots, despite the Leika coating. XDA discusses the issue.

Ali, 18 Jul 2022They made a mistake not having the rear display anymore IMO... moreThere is mo real estate where to put that screen. That camera bump is there for focal length and full sensor coverage.

Anonymous, 18 Jul 2022Pixel oversharpens and smears details a ton, and spends rid... moreSad to hear, if that were true. Pixel used to be the antithesis of smearing, a mere...3 years later and it's come to this? I would stress again that it's probably due to bad parameters set in the official firmware and many Gcam ports could in fact solve that, or leave enough options available that you could fix it yourself.

Hmm, so the main is definitely solid, even the full res mode is a notch up compared to smaller sensors with better texture and fewer false color artifacts(which I thought were inherent to quad bayer), even at base ISO...I have no idea why.
The quality is mostly due to the hardware I dare say, since the tonality gets quite unnatural in certain high contrast situations, with some waxiness in the shadows, and that's obviously the processing, it's also more noticeable with the smaller sensors, and they probably all use similar algorithms. And night mode...well I'd probably prefer to leave it off, the tradeoff is apparent. I suppose the highlight here should be the lens, with superior sharpness all the way into the corners, an apparently flat field, and very nice bokeh balls, a respectable aperture size at this image circle, yet a manageable thickness.
I don't think macro was properly tested in this review though. Which module does it even use? This is important information especially for a model like this.
I thought Xiaomi only used PD for fast charging but I was wrong, it would be best to specify exactly what kind of protocol enables what charge speed in the specs.
And...not everything has to have something to do with Leica, the only exterior element that looks decidedly Leica to me would be...the block font, not the faux leather, not the shape of the camera island, especially not the gold-tinted ring, that looks very un-Leica. Still this is one of the best designs I've seen from Xiaomi, on par or possibly better than certain Mix models. As someone who previously boycotted every model without a headphone jack, given the ugliness of the latest ROGP's design, I'm genuinely tempted.

It uses the same screen as the Xiaomi 12 Pro and 12S Pro, so we won’t go into that again. Xiaomi said at the launch event that this is the best screen they’ve ever used. Well, I don’t agree with that. First of all, the color shift problem, the 11 Ultra’s E4 does not have that problem. Secondly, DC dimming, the 12S Ultra does have Anti-flicker mode in the developer mode, but the effect is really weak compared to the 11 Ultra."
