Yeah. I like smartphone with small screen and sony is one of brand have this. But p/p is so impossible to buy.

ff2009, 01 Sep 2022That changes everything. I thought the 8Gen1 was also made... moreHuh..?

    8 Gen 1 = Samsung made

    8+ Gen 1 = TSMC

Small phone with great camera and jack. Not much of those now. Couldn't see much improvement in corner softness, which is, lol for Sony, even with so little competition.
I got to say tho, not much of big phones(like, for me) from sony too, also no folds(another lvl of Big).
Their rumored Zero phone is just mythical beast for now. All I will do is to enjoy competition, sadly. Those are also with creamier specs if I won't mind a bit of jack dongle.

I thought the 8Gen1 was also made by Samsung. Now I understand why everybody is angry at Sony for still using the 8Gen1.

FarFan, 01 Sep 2022Then go and buy yourself a Samsung, and don't bother h... moreYou don't make any sense. According to your post, the S21 is a much better option. Both the Xperia 5 IV and Xperia 5 III are overpriced compared to the S22 and S21.

May be 4 stars but 4 and half star is too much.

              So confused with this review.

Way too many negatives and phones that are the same price/cheaper yet better.

So it doesn't handle the refresh rate well at all and throttles quite a bit, terrible charging, literally nothing in the box (you should be taking a full star off for this and every company that does it at this point, I got an 80w charger and case, cable and I think 3.5 to USB C connector so 3.5 port is pointless on the phone). From experience I know the design of the phone is prone to tonnes of chips on the glass (owned Xperia z1 and my mates brother owned the 5 and xz and all had the exact same problems, it's been the same design for 10 years now) so this will be with the rigid squareness to it. Also a really ugly design now, looked classy on the z1, not anymore.

If I'm just to compare this to my Oppo Find X5 aswell then the Sony loses in screen and colour accuracy, battery for videos and calls (X5 has a smaller battery aswell, Sony gets a win for Web browsing) charging speeds by miles, worse overall camera set up too. Sony has ip68 which is nice and snapdragon 8 gen 1 over 888 (not really a positive).

My X5 also gets 5gb of extra ram so 13gb total now with 256gb storage and another 200gb of cloud so makes the microSD card slot pointless (also sd cards can fail, not needed a microSD for about 5 years now and I've been going concerts recording 30 mins of 4k video and taking about 200 pictures plus the other 2000 sitting in cloud already). Oh also its got proper physical dual sim slot too and just looks far nicer.

4.5/5 just crazy, if you want £1000 then there is far better and if you want compact then you've listed all the better choices including last year phones like zenphone 8, GSM seem to have a thing for Sony like a hipster liking things that are "different". Another poor review

Does anybody know if OIS doesn´t work with wide dynamic range option or still EIS?

Anonymous, 01 Sep 2022I'm a current Samsung user and I'm going to trade... moreEnjoy your downgrade then, I guess.

Now Sony is sorry for their mobile phones.

If Sony had used the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 instead of the garbage overheating Samsung made mess that is the original "non plus" 8 Gen 1 and they had included the charger and cable in the box this would be phone of the year imo. However there is no way I'm paying €1,000 for an 8 gen 1. One of the worst SOCs ever made. If it drops to around €700 I might consider it

Anonymous, 01 Sep 2022I'm a current Samsung user and I'm going to trade... moreGood for you that you will trade you s22+ but that is anecdotal

                        You claim I am delusional

But Sony mobile sales numbers allign with my statement seems my outlook is InTouch with reality after all.. objectively

                          Headphone jack.

"This year, Sony has become even more eco-friendly, and in addition to the charger, it has also retired the USB-C cable from its boxes."

This is not eco-friendly, it's only friendly to Sony's profit margins. People will now have to buy a charger and cable separate meaning more journeys and more carbon emissions.

The idea that everyone has loads of chargers and cables lying around is one, invalid and two, irrelevant. When I get a new phone I sell my old one including the required charger and cable so I only have 2 chargers and cables. One in my bedroom and one in the living room

This phone is an easy skip, if it's unable to handle heavy tasks and throttles easily, it can't be taken serious under any circumstances.

Anonymous, 01 Sep 2022My research only found that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset ... moreWhat !! how could that be possible ??!!

Grey Wolf, 01 Sep 2022Lol, imagine paying 800EUR for an Xperia 5 III, instead of ... moreThen go and buy yourself a Samsung, and don't bother here, telling people what is overpriced and what is not. What's your problem?

[deleted post]You know, have a point, only at GSMArena you'll find the comments section rife with Sony praises sung sky high, so much so that you'd be forgiven if you thought Sony was the most successful smartphone maker out there ruling the sales and being king of the kill.

That's hardly the reality, far from it. I bet over 95% of these people who talk big and praise but dont even own a single Sony phone, why? because they are priced out of the market and the phone specs dont cater to the market. No one really wants to buy Sony. I have been to concept stores in multiple countries already in Asia and middle east, The standalone cameras, professional cameras and other sections have a decent group of patrons showing interest but not a soul next to the smartphones on display. The reps there when asked about how many of these move a in a month? All I got back was uncomfortable smiles or some sad noises/faces. Yeah about sums up Sony smartphone division. The next one to close shop and call it a day after L.G.
