[deleted post]You know, have a point, only at GSMArena you'll find the comments section rife with Sony praises sung sky high, so much so that you'd be forgiven if you thought Sony was the most successful smartphone maker out there ruling the sales and being king of the kill.
That's hardly the reality, far from it. I bet over 95% of these people who talk big and praise but dont even own a single Sony phone, why? because they are priced out of the market and the phone specs dont cater to the market. No one really wants to buy Sony. I have been to concept stores in multiple countries already in Asia and middle east, The standalone cameras, professional cameras and other sections have a decent group of patrons showing interest but not a soul next to the smartphones on display. The reps there when asked about how many of these move a in a month? All I got back was uncomfortable smiles or some sad noises/faces. Yeah about sums up Sony smartphone division. The next one to close shop and call it a day after L.G.

Anonymous, 01 Sep 2022You type with one hand unlike on 75mm device that requires ... moreI hate single handed typing, It's just dumb, slow and inefficient. Furthermore it's medically proven and advised as such by doctors that you increase the rate at which your thumb and associated joints gets damaged if you rely on a single hand to type. I am not basketball player I have normal sized hands.
And no, glide typing is not the answer, yet another preposterous solution. Someone might suggest landscape mode typing, also dumb, way more hassle to deal with certain apps and it's hard to see most of the screen has half the screen turns into a keyboard.

For this price, not having a charger and cable is a deal braker.

And in the end be happy about the fact that your option is more expensive because it holds value. Hahaha, zomb*e Sony fans, the same like Apple ones.
Good luck with your overpriced products.

>This year, Sony has become even more eco-friendly, and in addition to the charger, it has also retired the USB-C cable from its boxes.
LOL not even a cable is included. Luckily for us they have chargers on sale for $50!

Crazy Weirdo, 01 Sep 2022Extremely expensive for what it is, and not to mention that... moreAs an Xperia phone owner myself, I'm so relieved that a reasonable comment like this is the highest rated one, at least for now. Looks like fanboys are running out of breath already.
The cable I understand is not a big deal for most people, but it's still odd for a device that's trying to be "people's phone" by keeping QOL features like notification light and headphone jack. 2 years support on a thousand dollar phone is, on the other hand, absolutely unacceptable.

I am so bored to read demand for Sony features under other reviews, and here everyone is ready to blame Xperia for no real reason.
If someone think that it is overpriced, then check how prices changed since last year. Xperia 5 III is still asked for 800euro, Galaxy S21 for 470. That's all you need to know about keeping value through time.

XperiaFan, 01 Sep 2022Many are disappointed because the installed SoC is the SD8g... moreMy research only found that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset in this year's Sony flagship comes from TSMC. I couldn't find one that said otherwise. Really need someone to prove it using hardware checker apps like AIDA64 or CPU-Z.

Many are disappointed because the installed SoC is the SD8gen1 from Samsung which is known for excessive heating. If it was packed with TSMC's SD8+gen1 (plus variant), it would be considered the best compact phone in the android market and perhaps way above zenfone 9.

YUKI93, 01 Sep 2022The X80 Pro and the Find X5 Pro cost almost $1,149 in my co... moreI can believe that. It's crazy to see how much it cost with shipping tax and customs added up. To see the Xperia 5 iv retains the same $999 price tag as previous generation predecessors is a relief. For once, I thought that the new phone will have a price hike. Luckily it didn't happened.

Yet again it's an oversized phone, with the aspect ratio making it even worse.
Feature wise it hit all the marks a REAL flagship should meet (including the basics like a headphone jack and expandable storage) but the size ruins it.
At 6.1" it's unusable in one hand. I have no use for a device I can easily grasp like a hammer but can't actually use with one hand as my thumb won't reach the top third of the screen. For that you might as well just get the Xperia 1III.
And then there's the garbage version of Android that Sony is using, without features that used to be Sony innovations like Xperia Themes, and that make this phone a must-root just to fix the awful stock experience.
I'd say "maybe next year" but I've been with Sony for long enough to know that they simply won't listen to their customers.

David, 01 Sep 2022Why does the 3rd rear camera look different and smaller to ... moreRound edges and glossy finish appeared with iPhone 6. And everybody started copying it. Sony was last and did it only on Xperia XZ2 (also moved fingerprint sensor to the back. Yuck!) and couple of 1's and all 5's until now. Before that we had square phones and sharp edges with matte or brushed finish.
Compared to all tech prior to iPhone 6, round edges and shiny flashy design were always only on cheap unreliable Chinese tech, everything else was squared, sharp with matte finish: TV's, Walkman's, music systems, even phones... That's why we called iPhone 6 "a Bulgarian iPhone". (we got our Chinese tech imported through Bulgaria). It was shiny, flashy and cheap looking.
I for one was annoyed that Sony did this to 1's and 5's and again waited for the "permission" from iPhone to go all in on flat sides, sharp edges and matte finish. Thanks god it's matte all around and not just partial like on iPhones. Do you really want fingerprint smudges that much? If it somehow stayed clean all the time, I would understand, but considering... Why?

YUKI93, 01 Sep 2022Lol, Samsung Galaxy S22+ is also $999 and you don't ev... moreWell, I think Samsung does put some effort into cooling. As per the teardown video by PBKreviews and some Chinese reviewers, it does come with a certain level of cooling measures just like other competitors. But yeah, I wonder why Samsung's flagship always throttles more than other flagships.
