Ahhh another Sony review

What to expect?

High star ratings, many comments

Too bad doing big numbers in tech spaces only represents the vocal MINORITY

In real world this phone isn't selling and the masses don't even care or even know it exists

But you can feel good about yourself defending in the comment section it won't help Sony but hey do your thing

Another super heating 8g1 phone. And when will manufacturers realize that we don't need that many lens, just use the space for imx989 and call it a flagship.

David, 01 Sep 2022I don't like the matt back on the 5 IV, makes it look ... morePersonal preference but matte looks cleaner and hides scratches if you could even scratch it. Which would be preferred by most especially on a flagship wouldn't it.

Anonymous, 01 Sep 2022l had Z1 Compact and Z3 Compact, the touch stopped working ... moreThat's odd because for me with tempered glass screen protector on the phone. The front screen never broke and is in pristine condition. The phone died before the screen ever needed a replacement. That was 3 years of use and by the time it broke, the Z5 was already out. Chances are the weak point is the pencil compatibility. Z3 and older had the ability to use wooden lead pencils as stylus. They removed it for being a weak point.

          Sony did it again.
Xperia 5 series are definitely one of the best and most complete compact flagships in the market.

Throttled to 60% of performance before 5 minutes. They should launched it with 8gen+ chip.

YUKI93, 01 Sep 2022The X80 Pro and the Find X5 Pro cost almost $1,149 in my co... moreI will never buy a 1000EUR phone, unless is a Samsung or Apple. And I don't even like Apple anymore.
But for sub 700EUR, Chinese phones are better. And especially at sub 500EUR level. You can find some really nice options on 300-400EUR, that are almost the same as any 1000EUR flagship (minus some things that are gimmicks to me, like super mega camera quality, IP68 rating, wireless charging, GG Victus +++ protection, Stainless Steel frame or whatever, Brightness 1000+++, etc.).
I find it quite id*ot when people spent 1000-1300EUR for phones and then browse the web with them. Or use them for tiktok or whatever. lol.
Of course, anybody can do whatever they want with their money, but that doesn't mean is intelligent. You can throw those money in the toilet and flush the water. Is basically the same thing.

As much as I'm impressed with this phone, I'm not sure if it's worth a one-year upgrade over its last year predecessor. I even still think that the 2020 ii version is still worth buying.

It does seem like Sony has really addressed the biggest beefs with their historical Xperias, that being the strangely bad photo quality when zoomed in and the lacking brightness.

The overheating is a shame because it's gonna get worse as games get progressively more and more demanding. (Case in point, the PBR graphics update for World of Tanks Blitz has made it too demanding to play on my P30 Pro without considerate throttling.)

But honestly, this phone is perfectly okay. Thermal throttle-free phones are history now unless they're gaming phones. Even previous phones which didn't throttle before do so now, due to more demanding games coming out. My P30 Pro never throttled before, and now it does. I hope that people can realize this.

Why does the 3rd rear camera look different and smaller to the 5 III? Have they removed the optical zoom or something?

David, 01 Sep 2022I don't like the matt back on the 5 IV, makes it look ... moreYeah, give us more glossy glass back, it's heavier than plastic, more expensive, it's gets quickly dirty and full of fingerprints, and it's less resistant than plastic, but it's premium!!

oh yes the processor for frying eggs was certainly the right decision. with the 8+Gen1 I would certainly have reached 150h, so unfortunately not buyable for me as I would like to have a small phone than the huge phablets.

I managed to find one, with one year warranty, for not more than $699. That's quite a steal if you ask me. Even the smaller S22 is retailed around $599 or so.

This is precisely what I want Samsung to do. If Sony could achieve a bigger battery by having a thicker 8,2mm body, the base S23 can also increase its thickness from 7,6mm to at least 8,0mm to fit a 4000mAh battery, up from this years downgraded 3700mAh.

I don't like the matt back on the 5 IV, makes it look like plastic. It actually looks the same as the 10 IV which IS plastic! They should have kept the mirrored back and polished edges of the 5 III, looked so much more premium.
