I had both the Mate 10 pro and Mate 20 pro.

The software experience was basically identical on my Xiaomie and Huawei phones. Both are too colorful emulations of iOS with a lot of bugs.

And while the quality has substantially improved compared to their older phones, so has the price gone up.

Thet now cost the same as a flagship Galaxy, despite having no Google Playstore, and despite the software still being inferior compared to Samsung's.

At least they used to have price to performace going for them, or camera. Now not even those 2 speak for them.

TheAlienNextDoor, 27 Nov 2022I've got the S22 Ultra 12/256 Snapdragon. All I can... morecan't comment how OneUI is now, but experience with old Samsung just isn't great. Having used S1, Note2, S6 before switching to mid-range Xiaomi, didn't even find S6 to be anywhere smoother than even midrange phone while being worse with RAM management and running hotter. Pre OneUI was just kinda bad

Even newer P30 was buggy notification, definitely worse than MIUI global, about as bad as MIUI China.

Mike9625, 26 Nov 2022The motorola that only gets update for one year, maybe 2? A... moreEvery Motorola phone comes with a 1 year warranty. The edge 30 ultra will get 3 years of software updates and 4 years of security updates. MIUI is one of the smoothest running software skins around these days. Sony shuts off the camera after 5 minutes of shooting 4K 120FPS video (which the S22 ultra can't even do) because rather than do what other manufacturers do, which is to skip a lot of frames in order to keep thermals in check, they stop the recording. This makes sense. It's a pro feature. Pro defined as a device that someone uses as part of their work flow to make money. Sony phones are great mobile editing work stations and they can connect to Sony cameras to act as a display and steaming computer. Their Xperia 5 series is marketed towards influencers, again, a pro use case. I get that you like Samsung. Like I've said I got nothing against that. But please don't say these things about other brands as if Samsung is immune to issues, or somehow worthy of forgiveness where other brands are not. You have to look at the bigger picture. You can't just say this phone throttles after doing this specific task for 5 minutes so it sucks. Also, I'd point out that almost no phone except for well cooled gaming phones with active cooling are immune to thermal throttling. Samsung's less efficient silicon in the Snapdragon 888 and 8 gen 1 are almost entirely to blame for thermal issues with newer handsets. Lastly I would leave you with a last few points that you seem to have either not considered or decided are somehow worthy of forgiveness.
          > The S22 ultra was a buggy mess when it came out, like most phones it will have the most bugs at launch. No company is immune to this.
          > The S22 Ultra thermal throttles too, though it may be less noticeable thanks to Samsung's aggressive thermal throttling. However they've made the choice to prioritize continuing the recording over not dropping frames.

There may be more (past or present) issues with this phone but these are the only ones that relate to this discussion.

What about the camera? Not to mention the stagnation of the preview window, there are also weird colors that are either reddish or greenish. In the Chinese market, this phone is falling in price at a rate of $10 a day.

fastanddubious, 25 Nov 2022Man you cry so much This is the best all around smartphone... moreits objectively the best phone. if it suits your needs, cool, its the best phone for YOU, but not for everyone. galaxies are not the best phone for everyone, like me. I use a Pixel, which works and adapts for me much better than my Samsung did. It's smoother than my Samsung was. the battery is far better than my Samsung's battery was. The camera is far better than my old Samsung already stunning camera. I don't need to go on, but the thing is, everyone has their needs, that's why they buy different devices. its like buying a truck vs buying a minivan.sure, they're both vehicles, but they serve different purposes. and work better for different people.

Current sale price is tempting @ 950-1000usd 12/256 in PHL

I have this same version and I don't agree at all.
Performance is really bad but since android 13 has improved a lot, but the last security patch has added some bugs.
The battery life is REALLY bad, I mean I usually get less than 4h of screen and the charging time using 20W takes 1h and a half.

Cameras are great but always too much light and fake colours, screen is nice and the SPEN too

I had S22 Ultra and i'm still using it by now. The SD 8 Gen 1 performance is a monster. But the Battery life is not that greateven though it has 5000mAh. The SD 8 gen 1 still thirsty of power consumption. S22 Ultra would be a perfect phone if it using SD 8+ Gen 1. So if i got the money and if i confused which one to switch. Between S22 Ultra RN or wait untill S23 Ultra? I will keep my money and switch to S23 Ultra with SD 8 Gen 2 with the best battery life and the performance has beat the A16 Bionic

Not the best camera, battery life, or price. Simple youtube real life tests and online rankings will tell but people still get scammed.

It is definitely the worst phone I've ever owned. I live in Europe, so that should also be telling (i.e., Exynos).

Camera is not focused well (Snapdragon doesn't have this issue), performance is terrible even with "Processing Speed" turned to "Maximum", constant overheating issues when trying to do anything resource intensive for 10+ minutes (like gaming), battery doesn't stay charged long even with daily use outside of gaming (but at least Super Fast Charge charges the phone fast — not ideal for charge cycles with regard to longevity of battery cells though).

I have many more griped with this phone aside from these major ones. Can't wait until my plan finishes so I'll be able to get something better (definitely Snapdragon). I knew what I was signing on for with Exynos before purchasing but figured it shouldn't be too bad. Oh, how wrong I was..

I would love to own this beast of a phone one day. It's too expensive in Uganda, can't afford it. Great review 👏 👌 👍
