WRGB s... moreRGBW sensors have been around for a while but it *wasn't* good due to the technological and software limitation that existed at that time. Now sensor technology and image processing techniques finally caught up and make such sensors a viable alternative to RGB sensors.

      Sensors and screens do not work in the same way. The problems RGBW sensors used to suffer from were that chroma noise becomes noticeably high in low light (due to fewer pixels to capture colours) and cross-talk severely degrades the overall colour reproduction, both of which are now mitigated to the level that they are essentially ignorable.

      The problems with RGBW displays are lower contrast (and resulting poor colour accuracy) as well as lower resolution due to its pixel arrangement, and there's not a single "software" solution to solve these issues.

      Wrong. As the anonymous user already posted before I did - Human eyes are RGBW because they use rods to capture luma information and cones to chroma information, that's why in the dark even though you can recognise the shape of an object, you cannot see its colours.

                WRGB sensors have been around since early digital era. Cam makers do not even bother to use , same way other CFA were barely used. The monochrome used for artistic purposes.

                WRGB sensor has same issue of WRGB screen.

                Do not forget the most adequate CFA is RGGB because 👁️👁️ are RGGB.

                  Unfortunately Tecno has horrible UI and that alone puts me off let alone that eyesore camera on the rear.

                        What can ugly back design. Painfully to look at. If you look at the pictures of the back where phone us tilted little forward it seems like someone put the sticker on the phone and it was not aligned properly. No symmetry whatsoever. It hurts eyes to look at

                                More durable than Galaxy or Iphone

                                  Anonymous, 17 Dec 2022Many avoid other non-RGGB CFAs because they in the end alwa... moreAn RGBW CFA is technically comparable to any RGB CFA in terms of colour accuracy because, unlike an RYYB one, it doesn't have to interpolate the value of G before the demosaicing therefore there is no hue shift to be corrected. White pixels are purely used for luminance information (and to get rid of chroma noise more efficiently) and will not affect the *overall* colour reproduction of the image itself.

                                  RGBW sensors used to perform poorly because the DTI technology wasn't mature enough and there was a lot of cross-talk between pixels (according to Oppo), which had a detrimental effect on colour accuracy since W pixels saturate faster and electrons "leak" from there to surrounding RGB pixels. This is no longer the case and there has been a lot more research and testing done for the demosaicing algorithms for various RGBW CFAs, and the penalty for having fewer RGB pixels can be now greatly mitigated.

                                  Just search for some main camera samples from non-Pro X80 and tell me how it's any worse than those from peers that used equally large Quad Bayer sensors, or X80 Pro.

Some phones have WRGB front cameras (mostly oppo, few one plus and older sony). WRGB will never give same colour accuracy. ( One reason for example WRGB screens are huge failure).

                                    That CFA with magenta and cyan can give somehow higher colour accuracy than RGGB, but there is loss of DR.

                                    Samsung semicon was working on 108MP 1/1.3" WRGB with 96MP "white" + 4MP "red" + 4MP "blue" + 4MP "green". I have no idea if it is ever gonna make to the mass production.
