Rod, 14 Apr 2023You have to be crazy to choose this over the red magic 8 pr... moreHalf price, half software, half durability , and updates, and half quality.
But it is half price you are correct

StealthRequiem, 14 Apr 2023But not on Android, it seems. Ironically it's Windows.... moreThey arent exactly phones though that can also be used while walking (massive and heavy devices) or make phone calls, they are dedicated handheld gaming devices that are only stronger in multicore speeds vs current 8g2 chips and im sure the gaming performance is theoretically worse vs 8g2 chips and without ray tracing (my phone can run GTA V at 60fps at 1080p without any slowdowns and im using SD 888).

Steamdeck only has a lcd 720p screen too and theres only a couple of handheld gaming devices sporting QHD screens or even just 1080p screens (generally cost over £1000) and most are lcd so slower pixel response times. Also most arent clones when they released a year or more before the 2 devices.

I'd have a QHD screen for content consumption and even then they trail most phones in actual screen quality and HDR format support, plus steamdeck you can't just go from gaming to windows desktop, it takes a reset for the device to boot in to it, this isnt an issue for android or apple phones.

Phones are more accessible, have better screen and support for content consumption, last longer on battery and are essentially the same power as dedicated handheld consoles but far more useable in day to day use. Can get a 2nd hand flagship/last yesr flagship for less than the base model steamdeck and that comes with emmc memory at 64gb? No thanks.

Anonymous, 14 Apr 2023Wrong. Mobiles will be just as popular as consoles. That... moreLikely true considering everything with a screen on it seems to be considered first by how well it can be used as game machine these days.

Gamers gotta game I guess though, and when they have had enough sitting in their gaming chairs gaming on their gaming PC’s/Laptop/console (all at the same time) using their gaming mouse and their gaming keyboards, sipping game juice from their gaming mugs whilst light seeps in through their gaming curtains. They can then go out and about and do some hard earned gaming on their gaming smartphones.

My only hope though is for a more ‘stadia’ like streaming based future leveraging 5G and ubiquitous Wi-Fi networks to have the heavy lifting done at the server end. Well my actual hope is that people stop trying to game every waking second, and thus mobile games go back to the simple, light weight, few mins at a time niche games that can run happily on any smartphone. Either way this would negate the need to have devices be designed like something that fell out of Megatrons nose and not have to be strapped to miniature wind tunnels in order to minimise the risk of first degree burns 🤷

I will still go for the Red Magic 8 Pro matte, Aesthetic wise. but red magic should step up its software for the English version. It has many texts out of bound and in wrong spelling also some English has weird translations

You have to be crazy to choose this over the red magic 8 pro. RM8Pro has a beautiful design unlike the Rog with those bezels. RM8Pro is almost half the price as well.

MEH! Thought that they really meant that they had a new distinguish design but still held back with half backed design back with the base design from the 6.
Nothing much changed from the inside and still too many cameras that you won't even use often. Yeah MEH might as well buy the 6 when it goes on sale to clear out the stock.

Anonymous, 14 Apr 2023Mobile gaming is the futureLOL.

Anyways, if it'd be true i'd still buy an S23U (that can keep up pretty well with ROG in gaming and it is far superior in everything else) and Xbos Series S for the price of that asus crap.

Can it run some real games like Doom, Tomb Raider, God of War or Crysis? If not, what's the use of those specs? 1400 Euro to play what exactly, crappy games like Genshin or PUBG? Really?

This battery life proves it’s all in the new Gen 2 chips doing all the heavy lifting, talk of Samsung some how managing to optimize its software is null.

Anonymous, 13 Apr 2023SoC supports QHD@144Hz, not QHD@165Hz. Well if you're going to be gaming at 165fps and you're serious about it then you'd generally drop the resolution to 1080p for more consistent 1% lows/165fps (specially for more demanding titles/higher graphics quality) pretty sure phones have the screens and hardware in the SoC itself with VRR and resolution adjustment on the fly so the device should do QHD 144hz or 1080p 165hz, whichever is more achievable at the time.

Again gaming phone, specialised gaming company and I'd much prefer that implementation on a £1400 device, can go out and get a gaming laptop with QHD 165hz screen for that price.

A lot of apps and games arent even 144hz 1080p compatible either so 165hz at 1080p is pretty pointless (unless you only scroll through your UI and app draw and even then its probably 120hz) and if you have an LTPO screen most the time your phone will be between 1hz-60hz to save battery, even non LTPO screens will run between 30-60hz for battery saving on most apps, THIS phone literally does this (they explain it in the review lol, you can even set custom refresh rates in the armoury create app).

Same split design = same obvious point of weakness in a bend test. If you're inclined to tilt after a bad break in a mobile game by trying to snap your phone in half? And *I* sometimes do that, and I'm not as gaming-serious as the target audience for this...

If I'm going to get a 2023 flagship at any point (which may be in 2024), I would... Genuinely have favoured this if I thought it wouldn't break. But it will, so hello S23 series I guess.
