So I bought the Nubia Redmagic 8 pro and have been waiting for the ROG to get released to compare and frankly I'm really not seeing the advantage. In terms of performance maybe the ROG takes it but not by much, the ROG has better cameras maybe, but the display bezels on the ROG is a no for me as compared to the almost bezel-less RedMagic. The 165hz is almost not useful in gaming as hardly any games use such high refresh rates. The promise of at least 2 years OS updates and 4 years security updates is where ROG is superior to RedMagic in which updates of any kind are virtually nonexistent.
Then the price difference is where the RedMagic wins hands down. £579 (12GB 256GB) and £709 (16GB 512GB) as compared to what €999 for the base ROG 7 and €1399 for the ROG 7 Ultimate?
ROG devices have long set the standard for Mobile gaming that somehow I was hoping for more. What that more is though I just can't put my finger on😂

I would understand similar move from Sony, Asus, Google, Meizu. They all have small phone business and sell enough to keep selling. They are not in position to make phone with too high BoM (sony did with pro phones).
But somehow samsung is never able to order the best pieces. Just put the best they can, if phone end up $2300 retail price, whatever. There is always someone willing to pay. If xperia pro could sell at $2800, galaxy at $2000-2300 would not have issue.
In some markets ppl pay this for iphone pro max already.
Samsung should be using QD-oled with 10bit/480Hz flickering and calibrate to reach delta 0.7-0.9 and similar brightness all over screen (no more than 10-15 nits different between portions), 1/1.3" for S/S+ while 1/1.12" on Ultra. Drop ultra's 69mm and replace for 75-150mm 64MP 1/2".

Kev, 13 Apr 2023It costs more money to order glass panels that have cutouts... morePal. The ROG does not cost even same to be made compared to galaxy , iphone and xperia. Do not let specs fool you. These 3 have highest BoM.
Just because you see UFS4.0 512GB on phone A, does not mean it is same UFS4.0 512GB used by phone B. Samsung is not only supplier of ram/storage.
Omnivision cameras are cheaper than isocell and exmor by huge margin (even isocell is way cheaper than exmor of same specs).
There is no excuse to have same glass of 2013 phones.

And honestly, this phone should have had NO ingress protection like the Red Magic phones due to it having moving parts and A HOLE in it. But we have pretty decent dust protection and omnidirectional protection from water splashes.

I don't love the S23 Ultra. 200MP is a marketing gimmick and provides less detail than a larger 50MP sensor. But either way that phone has a larger sensor than the ROG phone 7 ultimate. Which makes sense. It's a gaming phone, it's not meant to be good at everything. I think you need to look at this phones target market. Is someone who's spent over 1000$ on a phone for gaming really going to notice or care that the cameras aren't the best the few times they might use it? If cameras were a priority I'd get an Xperia 1 series with their gaming accessory. That gets me active cooling, and amazing manual camera controls. This is more specifically a gaming device, while the Xperia is targeted towards professionals.

Hmmm, used to be interested in the rog series of phones (almost got the rog 3 over my current device) but seems that rating is way to high for the device you're getting now.
Screen is ok, one of the worst flagship screens available now, (2023). Sharp have 2 phones with 240hz screens and plenty of 144hz ones for gaming,should be QHD screen with dolby vision aswell considering its a content consumption phone and its price.
Speakers arent quite rog 3 good and the other features are literally good for more "esports gamers" now, very specified segement instead of a gaming phone that can be a general all rounder. Cooling isnt any better and the available accessories are probably the worst theyve been on a rog phone (lack of and less backward compatability). Pointless light shows on the back with oled matrix screen that does nothing, and for £1400... Am i missing something here?
Battery endurance is good but expect a bit better from 6000mah and "leader" of gaming phone segement who focus on battery endruance. Its slow to charge too, i just don't get this generation of rog phones. Basically buy the rog 6 series and save yourself some cash.

It is not a perfect fit since the plastic kind of bumps up against the camera island, but it does work. You can also use the Kunai 3 in wired USB and wireless Bluetooth mode just fine on the ROG Phone 7.

The designs of the newer gens of ROG phones are too...complex? Idk how to describe it, but the aesthetics of the ROG 3 below sits down as some of the best designs for a gaming phone for me.
Rn the Redmagic 8 Pro has one of the cleanest and best designs on phones. ROG is overdoing it, and in a slightly worse way.
I sure do hope they are as sturdy as the review claims. Because so far, bed tests of Zack has killed 2 ROG generations.

Anyway, surely the review is gonna mention screen cannot reach the brightness advertised (nobody was able to reach) , photos look wax and video has low quality like pixel 7. The usual oppo flagship.
By the way, s24 series gonna keep exactly same cameras of s23 series. For all 3 devices.
