Lol, we literally have a 2014 memo saying that all phones have backdoors and are being watched. People seem to have forgotten that. Chinese, American, European, they all spy, who cares. If you want security you put a 3rd part room, and even then you still have to deal with hardware backdoors. It's hopeless , those are surveillance machines by design.

Anonymous, 01 May 2023Buy a Xiaomi if you want a disposable phone that gets repla... more
In what time a phone gets replaced can not be predicted by YOU, me or anyone except the user. It depends on a lot of factors. #commonsense
Therefore, to term a phone.. no THE BRAND ITSELF... disposable by putting an imaginary figure of 2 years is grossly erroneous.
Just because some funky little fun app/launcher of yours doesn't work as per your expectations can not be a reason for terming the OS bad. That's laughable.
And I wonder if you don't like the default launcher, default sharing app, default browser, default photo editor, ( basically default everything), and you're angry because you can't change them, why in the first place do you buy a Xiaomi phone?? #lol
And if you think that 'spying' on user data depends on default apps, then your knowledge of the very concept is inadequate. // Ignorance is a bliss.//
Just because a company has a different schedule of updates, you quickly jumped to calling the very updates "horrible". That's an absurd co-relation, to say the least.
Other random stuff is just personal experience which in no way can be a basis for judgement on a brand.
It's inappropriate to pass such strong judgements on any brand just on the basis of your personal experiences and preferences. I agree everyone has a right to have personal preferences. But if the brand doesn't tick any of your boxes, then maybe some other brand is better suited to your needs. #timeToLookElsewhere

I watched a lot of Chinese YouTubers (from Greater China, HK, Taiwan & Mainland China), they have good remarks for 23 Ultra.

The "Professional Camera Bundle" is severely overpriced, also the decision regarding the "nicer phone case" to make a cutout revealing the logo on the back instead of just printing another logo would only result in accumulating debris.
I'm skeptical about the durability of the protruding fake leather, I thought the midframe would protrude along with it, but it's just the leather.
>The minimum refresh rate depends on the screen brightness. If the brightness is below 100nits or so, the refresh rate will be kept at maximum
Is quite ridiculous, most of the time a phone can be used at the display supports high-frequency 1920Hz PWM
That frequency had better be consistent at any brightness, though I suspect you didn't do the testing.
>The 13 Ultra supports USB PowerDelivery 3.0 and Qualcomm QuickCharge 4.0
Quite a relief...

1920 fps @1080p its not real unfortunately, That's why the videos is choppy and not good loking
Just like huawei mate 30 pro's 7638 fps @720p option
But mate 30 can record really stunning slow mo videos
On 1920fps @720p and 980fps@1080p
So xiaomi have to try harder to slow motion

Buy a Xiaomi if you want a disposable phone that gets replaced in 2 years max. The latest MIUI versions are horrendous. They are riddled with many default Xiaomi apps that you cannot change. If you want gesture navigation support using Nova launcher or other 100% better launchers than Xiaomi's default launcher, prepare to be infuriated. No other phone manufacturer does that - intentionally crippling the software experience if you prefer to use your own default launcher, default sharing app, default browser, default photo editor, etc. ONLY XIAOMI.
Xiaomi wants to spy on everything you do that is why it is so much a horrible experience if you tend to use your preferred set of default apps.
And the software updates are horrible. If you value security and monthly updates and long term software support, avoid Xiaomi. Even Xiaomi flagship phones don't provide monthly security updates. They're lumped every quarter or so at Xiaomi's convenience.
Also prepare for mysterious malfunctions/bugs on the second year: turbo fast charging suddenly becoming regular charging to even slow charging (happens after the planned obsolescence updates starting on the second year), hardware components mysteriously failing - especially the fingerprint scanner, battery charging speed and battery life (only if you insist on updating to the latest MIUI). So be warned. Xiaomi used to be excellent that's why our household has/had 12+ Xiaomi phones/tablets in the past, but not anymore.
MIUI 10 and below was great. Upwards from MIUI 11 (Android 11) up to the latest MIUI 14, everything has been a horrible buggy, limiting experience - unless of course if you like Xiaomi's default spying apps. MIUI deserves to be junked and overhauled in the same way Samsung killed its previous TouchWiz.

Nice daylight pictures on my 4K TV! This is death to APS-C cameras and smaller. Why spend on a Canon or Nikon camera for the same price of this Xiaomi for awful pictures and videos?
