wow the camera is so good

Fa14bi, 01 Sep 2023Yes, I want an SD card in my phone but nowdays, I also want... moreCorrect! If your main focus is on big/huge apps such as games, then you would be better served by large and fast internal memory rather than by SD card extension.

My personal use case is very different from yours (no games, no big apps etc), so for me a large, cheap memory is most welcome, even if its relatively slow.

It all depends on how one wants to use the phone.

Now, it would be great, if modern flagships would have both, large internal memory plus micro sd card memory option.

Ottonis, 01 Sep 2023"the storage is only 128GB, and the price is €1,000&qu... moreRegardless of having expandable storage (which requires extra outlay on top of the €1000 for the phone) or not, that price for just 128GB is ridiculous. No LTPO and telephoto cam put more nails in the coffin for the 5 V.

And a CPU made for highend and gaming getting bottlenecked by the lack of having enough internal storage to install those games is a bit sad.

Fa14bi, 01 Sep 2023Problem is, one game Alone takes up to 50GB of storage nowd... moreThis is true. You actually cannot install apps on the SD card - and you wouldn't want to because of operational speed limitations.
SD cards are for media storage of all kinds, in particular for the tousands of photos and hours of video recordings from your phone. That's where they are unbeatable in price/storage ratio.

Gamesnic, 01 Sep 2023Is Sony actually trying to troll people or why are they rel... morethis is highend with compact size.

Mr. Anonymous, 01 Sep 2023"The phone is super compact.." I disagree with t... moreI've been using an Xperia 5 ii for two years now. There's obviously no better form factor on the market right now than the 21:9 aspect ratio. I've noticed that the latest Fold 5 has acquired it too. It is pocketable, compact and cinematic. In addition to that, you can easily reach any spot on the display with one hand alone. S22 ultra? Anyone?

Anonymous, 01 Sep 2023An SD will grind it to a standstill. Way too slow for new phones.Well, you don't install apps on the SD-card (not sure if that's even possible), so the general operation speed of the phone will by no means be affected.

But you can store tons of photos or videos from your camera, and you can use it as your "go to an island" media library with tons of music, maps, books, and even videos. On my P30 I have a "nano card" (well that's Huawei's proprietary form factor of essentially a micro sd card) and I am using it for media of all sorts. The phone is 100% snappy and does not suffer from this card at all.

Nicolas F, 01 Sep 2023But 128 Gb means it's not UFS 4.0 which is latest stor... moreThis is true. UFS4.0 is twice as fast as 3.1 - in read and write mode, and more energy efficient at that.
There is absolutely no reason to keep a 3 year old memory standard instead of using a new one - except in order to increase the gap to their flagship model, the Xperia 1 V, which indeed uses the new UFS4.0 standard.

Sad that only one company is brave enough to produce phone with no hole in display.

Remember this phone is 1000eur. There are phones with 8G2 that cost less than half right now. I got to used both 870 and 8G2 devices. There is a clear difference in speed and smoothness.

"the storage is only 128GB, and the price is €1,000"

This needs a different perspective: in most other phones the amount of memory is fixed and not expandable.
The Sony Xperia, on the other hand, can easily get a memory expansion for cheap: You can add a micro sd card at 512 GB for just around 40 bucks - something neither apples, samsung or asus phones offer.
One question though: was the throttling behavior improved over the notorious xperia IV line?
