If Samsung process not at fault then how come almost all Samsung chip is inefficient but almost all TSMC are efficient? Surely there has to be something about Samsung process which makes it inferior. Maybe they cannot even manufacture good design, leaving it's clients with no choice but to make poor design? Who knows?

Apple heat issue is a new one and not the norm in TSMC. Its too early to blame TSMC for this. It could be variety of issue including Apple's new chip design, poor cooling etc.

Maybe not the best in the market, but some of them obtained a battery life comparable to the s23.
So the value obtained by GSM arena seems a bit off to me

Wait what? They don't give a damn about the battery at all or what? It has become worse than Pixel 7? Wow!!!
I still have high hopes from Google. Let's see.

I stopped reading at 83 hours endurance rating.
                  Absolutely hopeless.
How can Google constantly make phones with battery life like this.

The move to TSMC made all the difference. So much they even buffed the clock speeds, while still having the edge in thermals and power consumption.
Samsung nodes are not competitive in the high end. They're barely good enough for midrange chipsets.

A17 overheats due to them hitting the ceiling of what their current core design can do. A17 is basically an overclocked A16, which in turn was an overclocked A15. To win the benchmark marketing wars they push the core to the limits, no foundry can help them there. But I guarantee you, on Samsung's node, A17 would be far, far worse.

This review missed a couple of things

Scrolling is terrible, there is a constant delay in response, some times almost 2 full seconds .

                      Also
                      The screen feels "hollow"
If you tap in the Conners of the phone and then in the mid you can't miss it , was driving me mad...I know the display is glass , but the feeling is plastic, hard plastic.

People here need to stop thinking that chip would magically become 50% better and 20-30% cooler if made at TSMC.

8+g1 is revised chip, not only overclocked 8g1 with another fab.

A17 Pro has heat issues. Made at TSMC.

I wonder if GSM and every other publication will go back and correct every article with nonsense about non LTPO being incapable of variable refresh rates. So many “journalists“ these days regurgitate nonsense without researching for 5 seconds. Panel refresh rates are controlled by the display driver. LTPO can theoretically refresh individual areas of the display but I've never seen this advertised or tested. Other than that typical refresh rates are well within the capabilities of traditional display technologies.

I am gradually looking for a replacement for my Huawei P30 Pro. I'm watching camera battle between Pixel 8 Pro, iPhone 15 and Galaxy S23 Ultra. But when I open the night photos from the P30 Pro review and then the photos from the same places in this review, I don't see much of a difference. Which is quite a shame.

The Pixel 8 photos tend to be a lot more HDR-sy and sharpened than the Pixel 7/7 Pro photos rendering the night sky and nightscape shadow details to be a lot brighter than they really are.

Personally I'd prefer the Pixel 7/7Pro Night Sight photos over those of the Pixel 8's although some may prefer the Pixel 8's more surreal looking photos. Either way, they're much better than iPhone 14 Pro Max/15 Pro Max night mode photos in terms of color accuracy, dynamic range, detail, exposure and white balance. The iPhones really need to catch up.

A lot of people are having a mis-conception that pixel 8's will last longggg...simply because google says that pixel's will be updated for next 7 years...

Now, a hardware device will last long, firstly and most importantly because of the hardware internals. In this dept, Google's chip isn't going to hold-up for next 7 years as compared to snapdragon's and the apple silicon....

Secondly, google has a very bad reputation when it comes to both quality of their hardware and support for projects like the pixel's.

Thirdly, the only way pixel-8 > iphone-15 is higher refresh rate and trust me you won't even notice the difference...try your 120hz phone and iphone 15 in the store side-by-side and see for yourself.
