They just had to be stubborn and keep going with Samsung eh. Now they have a sub par device that won't sell well at all.

A terrible device for the price. Substandard chipset, poor battery life, only UFS 3.1 still. For a grand you should be getting no compromises at all.

Anonymous, 31 Oct 2023And there are hundreds of phone out there with good GPU/cam... moreDude why are you defending this???

Are the other android flagships targeting gamers with their Snap 8 gen 2?

Is Nothing targeting gamers with Nothing Phone 2's Snap 8+ gen1? Of course not.

Hell Pixel 8 pro is the most expensive Android phone on the market that doesnt even support UFS 4.0.

Ravenowl, 31 Oct 2023Not to mention it still can run any high end game just fine... moreSo when will you mention the benchmark scores you got on your pixel that are so close to 8g2?

Dgg, 30 Oct 2023A bit dissapointing. Poor chip and battery life. And price... moreYeah really a major flaw for this price.. google has some work to do on next

Anonymous, 31 Oct 2023And there are hundreds of phone out there with good GPU/cam... moreNot to mention it still can run any high end game just fine. Those that are already optimized, anyway. It does not run Genshin smoothly yet (probably not updated for Android 14 yet?). Regardless of settings, it just stutters because the caching isn't working at all. So every time you look at a new scene or play an animation that hasn't happened during this session, it'll stutter mad hard. No difference between lowest and highest settings. More headroom for the future would have been nice, though. But eh, it just has to last until I can get a true fullscreen (no notch nor hole) Pixel with an SoC that's either the latest SD or something truly on par with it. Until then, I am still getting a very smooth daily use experience and great photos. Paid the premium for the camera and GrapheneOS. If you buy a Pixel and don't install GrapheneOS, honestly, I have no idea why you bought a Pixel. That's one of its biggest advantages and if you value both privacy and security, it's VERY well worth the premium. It certainly isn't your bang for the buck gaming phone, wasn't meant to be either.

"Even dimensions are almost the same, although the 8 Pro is ever so slightly shorter and narrower, probably due to the trimmed bezels."

No, it's because they made the screen narrower. The Pixel 8 Pro has a smaller resolution than the Pixel 7 Pro. They no longer use a 1440p screen, which is a little awkward.

Sooo, the new Pixels massively suck compared to the competition in almost all aspects, except the camera and the AI stuff? I'm especially surprised to read about the issues with sustained performance after this was allegedly an area on which the Pixel team had focused to make an improvement.

There is nothing wrong with the Pixel 8 Pro's battery life and performance while using GrapheneOS. It would be great to have a mirrored review of the phone with it running GrapheneOS (the most secure OS available for a phone). That's the only real reason I bought the Pixel 8 Pro and its predecessors. Using GrapheneOS and having a phone as secure as it is, no phone out there compares to it. Also, the camera is superior to that of the Samsung S23 and Iphone 15.

Gaming is just a real time example that shows how weak Tensor G3 is gpu wise.

The variable aperture is copying Huawei and that's basically the only new thing. There's a bit of innovation in the Camera software here at least from Google with new features. The Xiaomi 14 series are good but are a bit lacking in terms of innovation. They are assembly machines. Nothing new. Just buying parts from others and paying others to assemble the parts. Like I said good phones but lacking innovation. Xiaomi seems to be the least innovative of the Chinese brands. Basically they seem to copy everything Huawei does. Huawei does stuff first and Xiaomi copies. Vivo also innovates more than Xiaomi in cameras. They brought things like the gimbal stabilization for example. Xiaomi makes good phones but completely lacks innovation especially for cameras. They have been followers rather than innovators

100%. If your a heavy gamer this ain't the phone for you.. simple.. having said that a 1000usd phone should have better performance but as you said the majority aren't gamers and probably most that look at using pixels this isn't a factor..
For the majority it's performance is more than adequate, same goes with battery life.. still has the best display on the market, one of the best all round camera performances on the market and speakers that can hang with iPhones best and with top notch build quality, but peeps calling this trash lol

While i agree that a 1000$ phone nowdays should play all games without a hitch i also believe 99% of the people who buys pixels wont intend to game on them nor play Genshin all day long, they just want stock android and stellar photos and videos, they are getting exactly that with this one.
