As someone has been using the ROG phones for years for the speakers, no camera cut out, big battery, I won't be buying this new one. This is just a phone like all the other brands now. Utterly dissapointing. From the sound comparison, the sound of the speakers lost a lot of weight and body. I honestly was already fearing decline in speaker quality when news came out it was IP water resistant. I couldn't care less about that.... I'd buy another brand if I wanted to sacrifice speaker for water resistance and size.

They botched up big time with the ROG 8

It used to be a phone that specialised in gaming, and excelled remarkably at it with it's extra features and a big battery. Now, with those exclusive features removed (6 aH battery, full display, speakers, shoulder keys) this is like a regular phone with just a simple light and ROG software to add to it's gaming features and that's not gonna work in it's favour

To add to the problem, they increased the price further and this rog costs over a thousand, and doesn't even have it's signature ROG phone features. What a flop

The RGB LED at the back of ROG 8 doesn't double up as a notification LED?
              Why not?

They tried to cater to the s23 / ultra audiences, didn't get them and mostly will lose the rog phone audience. They should have doubled down on what made them special like uninterrupted display, awesome speakers, great audiophile dac, 6000mah battery.

Leanzazzy, 16 Jan 2024Asus really has cut not just the corners, but the entire mi... moreI agree with you on everything except for the Xiaomi part, on most reviews I saw that phone on par with others or slightly worse. It never was the solid phone I saw in the GSM review. Whatever advanced cooling the chinese manufacturers talk about is mostly marketing and even if it is there, NOTHING can beat active cooling. Asus's main problem is that now, it's just like everyone else without the fan.

And yeah the final thing you said is the most important aspect. The IQOO 12 is what the ROG Phone should've been, a solid phone all around with good imaging chops as well. How this phone can be worth so much more for a worse imaging experience is beyond me. Now there's nothing separating Asus from even iPhones in terms of gaming chops. It's truly sad seeing Asus's downfall I mean the gaming segment was already a niche. What niche is this phone trying to go for?

IpsDisplay, 16 Jan 2024"Looking at our actual thermal-throttling test results... moreThis is an ROG perfomance always comes first. Comfort? the way asus think is as long is not burn your finger it is comfortable.
the good news is they give armoury crate to give more control to your phone performance. rather than boosting performance i think is more useful for braking perfomance. So you must learn how to brake appropriately

You can spot cam of Z Fold easily.
Zte uses do estic screen, to hide the cam completely, you sacrifice cam quality even more.

Considering non-chinese brands think samsung oled > boe/visionox/tiamna/china star oled, then you wont get non-visible UDC on any other.

No need to touch back panel.
If back gets hotter, means heat is not being kept inside. This is what they mean.

I applied thermal paste inside my old phone to see how different it would do.
                            Back panel gets far hotter.

how about no. a rog 7 16GB RAM, 512GB Flash is sold here with $1510. hell no. not worth in any way these kinda money

As a gaming phone, they should copy ZTE Nubia solution. At this price, it does not make sense to get this ASUS over the Nubia except the badge. The ASUS cooler works but cumbersome

Mobile smartphone gamers does this statement below make sense to you:

"With a prolonged stress test, the rear surface of the ROG Phone 8 Pro becomes almost UNCOMFORTABLE to hold. This is arguably BETTER since you want internal cooling prioritized over hand comfort,"

Im not sure guys but I think holding a handheld device is very important.. what do you guys think?

"Looking at our actual thermal-throttling test results, the ROG Phone 8 Pro does fairly well with prolonged stress"

Guys in the comment section.. is something wrong with my eyes because the thermal throttling looks horrendous!!

Like is said before me this phone doesn't Excel in anything bar maybe the screen brightness and it has a 4.6 rating

What kind of review is this?
