Kuki, 17 May 2024Another phone that no one needs 🥸 I miss living in a time in which no one needed a "smart" phone.

I was looking foward to buying one of these because it has most of the features I use that have been removed from other phones. Expandable memory, headphone jack, apparently improved audio through wired headphones and new lossless Bluetooth codecs. It seems like it isn't going to be available in the U.S. so I can't get it anyway but the cost would have made me think twice anyway. The macro photography is useful but phones now seem to be obsessed with photography. Professional and amateur photographers prefer real cameras, I still prefer film. Even if a phone camera could become as good as a real camera, the feel of holding a real camera, using a view finder, being able to switch lenses, just isn't the same. Phone reviews focus almost entirely on the cameras of these things and then go into a little detail about the battery, screen and haptics. When they review the audio they refer to the small limited phone speakers, not through headphones or through large normal speakers. There are two things that seem to never get mentioned. Reception and phone call quality. Those things don't matter these days, I guess, because phones are supposed to be used to take photos to be put on social media sites, not for having phone conversations. I am old. Since this phone doesn't seem like it's going to be released in the U.S. and other countries, perhaps there will be reviews of how other countries' models work in countries they aren't available in. You can check the bands, of course, but it would still be helpful. That would mean importing a phone, though, as Sony isn't about to provide one for that sort of review. Still, I would like to see reception and phone call quality mentioned in all phone reviews with as much interest as in the camera.

Anonymous, 17 May 20244k display is really underrated that even some sony fans do... moreRead the beginning of the article carefully about the 4 k screen that Sony used!! in reality there is very little scenario where your Sony smartphone actually displayed 4K, most of the time it displays FHD, link the article at the beginning, it's you who overestimates Sony's 4K display because in reality it doesn't exist or rarely exists, it's more marketing than anything else but it didn't work and that's why Sony returned to a standard display that the majority of its competitors use brilliantly !!

Great colours and lots of detail in the photos but they still have the fuzzy noise that made me ditch Sony for Samsung years ago. Compare the 48MP shots side-by-side with the equivalents from a Samsung S24 Ultra and the Samsung's are so much cleaner on the sharp edges of the buildings and so on.

Sorry Sony. After so many years you haven't changed a bit. Two most hated features -- glass back and terrible, annoying, super inconvenient side mounted fingerprint sensor are still there. So my Xperia 1 II goes to trash and my hard-earned cash goes to someone else. SD Card is awesome but that is place and forget while the fingerprint sensor that is impossible no to touch annoys me 20 times every day for the last three years. Bye, Sony.

+ at first, i based it from my experience since z5 premium... people used to invalidate my experience that it does differ - that was even an ips - it appears sharper than an oled counterpart due to different arrangement of pixels... but i still enjoy it, taking advantage of it by watching 4k videos i took with the phone, and later youtube videos with high bit rate...
+ then later, found out that it makes sense... since minimum distance that you can appreciate 4k contents... do you know that the nearest distance you can enjoy a 4k content on a 4k display is the length of its diagonal? so, ye... watching it on a 4k phone is different on 4k tv/monitor since you use the phone "nearer"

Sad, maybe next time! (that is, unless Sony phone division won't LG itself by next year, which is quite probable at this point).

Anonymous, 17 May 2024Ok but much smaller size of a phone screen counteracts the ... more"Ok but much smaller size of a phone screen counteracts the points you mentioned.' - no, it doesn't. Smaller the screen - closer to eyes - higher minimal density.
"And hey, this 1080p allowed this phone to get over 17hrs in battery life test, as a flagship!' - I doubt it's because of different resolution alone. Also, 1260p screen would have just 36% more pixels (as opposed to previous 1644p, which would have 131% more pixels, adjusted for changed aspect ratio) - again, not that big of a deal for battery life. And, if it's a ""flagship"" (for effin' 1400 euro), then why have mere 1080p anyway? Why not put bigger battery?
"..there are many who are fans of certain brands and they blindly praise and criticize products.." - so?
Sony did *some* things right with this smartphone (btw, not sure if changing aspect ratio was one of them), but they could do much more. Well, every manufacturer could do much more.
