Roter Drache, 30 Aug 20245.5" with a 20:9 aspect ratio? The screen would be too... morehave you tried a 20:9 big screen phone? I use an S22 Ultra and it's uncomfortable compared to a 20:9 phone.
18.5:9 was great back in the day when the phones were smaller, a 6.2" 18.5:9 phone like the S8+ was nice to hold. But as they got bigger the size had to be accounted for with taller screens.
Apple and Samsung phones are supremely uncomfy compared to others, for me. I tried an S20+ after using my S22 Ultra and that phone felt COMPACT.
My point is, 20:9 is the sweet spot for 6.2-7 inch phones. For smaller phones 19.5:9 and wider can be used but 20:9 is a must for larger phones. I tried a Pixel 7, Oneplus 8, S20+, S20 FE, iPhone 11 Pro, 13 Pro, 13, 15 Plus, etc. and I have an idea of what works and what doesn't. At least for me, and everyone I've talked to irl, wider larger phones are uncomfortable whereas taller larger phoens are perfectly fine, smaller phones aren't bothersome since they're small and their width is usable.

Anonymous, 31 Aug 2024I really doubt if it has LTPO panel or an aluminium frame ... moreAccording to motorola's website the frame is plastic. The screen is LTPO through.

OpposedScroll75, 31 Aug 20245.9 inches would be reasonable for today's phone tech ... moreSince Apple will increase the size of their iPhone 16 Pro non-Max next month, I'm hoping that they'll reduce the size of their vanilla iPhone 17 next year to 5.9" and just leave the 6.1" to their older iPhones and the upcoming SE 2025.

Roter Drache, 31 Aug 2024Battery capacity isn't the problem with having a 5.5&q... moreAll of that math is pretty much useless. A phone with 5.5 screen doesn't have to be 20:9. I have at least 2 phones with a 5.5 16:9 ratio and they are compact. They're just old so unusable at this point
Phone companies can just do the same. Make one with old ratio and smaller screen. Updated specs and there. Done

OpposedScroll75, 31 Aug 20245.9 inches would be reasonable for today's phone tech ... moreEven 6.1" like a galaxy S would be great, as there is so few choices in this size
Anyway it's the first Motorola phone since the moto x that I find interesting

Anonymous, 31 Aug 2024yes I know 5 big updates sound nice... but if they deploy t... moreBesides Samsung (for their upper mid-range devices and flagship units) and Apple, whom from the other brands offer speedy updates after major OS releases? Most of the brands deploy their version of a major OS update 6-10 months later unless for their top of the bill models (maybe) or like Xiaomi regular updates of their own UI but not necessarily coupled with a major Android version. I don't mind having later. As long as I get them I'm happy and with Motorola as a brand it's already mind-blowing that they offer this as usually it's only one major update for the G-series and maybe 2 for anything above. Anyway, we all have to wait to see if the hardware can cope with all these promises for Android devices and even vanilla Apple devices aren't that great after several major updates in terms of smoothness and usability.

OpposedScroll75, 31 Aug 20245.9 inches would be reasonable for today's phone tech ... moreBattery capacity isn't the problem with having a 5.5" display. The ZenFone 10 with 5.9" has a 4300mah battery. You could make the device 2mm thicker and put in a battery with higher capacity. The problem with 5.5" is the aspect ratio of 20:9. Smaller screen with that ratio are practically not usable as a smartphone.
Take a look at the ZenFone 10
5.92" 20:9 display
13.7cm x 6.2cm is the size of the displays
That makes 84.9 cm².
A phone with 5.5" 20:9
12.7cm x 5.7cm
72.4 cm²
reducing the diagonal by 0.42" (compared to ZenFone 10) the screen gets 15% smaller. The shortage of height isn't the problem but the width. 5.7cm vs 6.2cm.
I currently use the XZ1 compact. It's a nice compact 16:9 4.6" phone but it's a bit too narrow (screen width is 5.7cm). Typing messages on such a narrow screen isn't really comfortable.

Anonymous, 30 Aug 20246.3 inches is still a big size. Has to be 5.5 inches5.9 inches would be reasonable for today's phone tech but 5.5 inches is impossible unless you want a 3000mAh battery

isn't it still wild that their more expensive options including regular Edge 50 promise less full Android upgrades in comparison with more budget orientated Edge 50 Neo? What is Motorola strategy here? Incredibly confusing approach...
