      Very expensive

JimmyTheGreatest, 21 Jan 2025Do you have a Xiaomi service center where you live in the M... moreThere are some I assume. I think the official importer has a lab also.

Problem is that once the factory lamination goes around the screen of any smartphone, the phone becomes far more vulnerable to water ingress, even if you do manage to replace the battery, thus leaving you with the decision of spending a money on replacing the battery, only to get a phone that will be far more susceptible to moisture and corrosion and thus probably won't last very long - or just buying a new device and having peace of mind.

I'll miss my Poco F3 with its amazingly small, unobtrusive and pretty high quality selfie cam (for some reason a rarity, even today) and its efficiency and performance. It was a great phone overall with some unique features, but I fear it is time to move on.

I'll see how the Poco F7 looks - assuming they launch one at all - and the price, but for now the X7 Pro looks like a strong contender so far.

Question is how long I can risk waiting with a potential time bomb held up against my head.

We all saw what happened to those beepers...

        ;)

There are some highly skilled people that are capable of fixing the problems you mentioned. Usually they are young and have been "playing" with electronics since they were teens, and there are a lot of them in my country, the problem is finding these people...

The reason phone shops refuse repairing phones with bulging batteries is maybe they're afraid of the phone exploding or self ignite. I've actually seen scary video clips about it. Paradoxically, I understand them. Nobody want to set their own shop on fire in a mall...

The adhesive connecting the screen to the body started to come loose around the lower half of the phone ever since it overheated. A sure sign of battery bulge.

Then it dropped from 16 - 17 hours of battery life on an average day, to 8 - 10 hours before needing to be recharged. Major bummer.

Anonymous, 20 Jan 2025Why you didn't replace the battery? Are your hands too... moreObviously you don't know what you're talking about.

Glue is used in F3, not screws. You can't remove the back panel by unscrewing. The phone wasn't designed to be opened by the end-users. Even the phone shops refused to replace the battery, only one shop agreed reluctantly to do it for €100. It wasn't worth it.

Please educate yourself before posting nonsense.

When you buy replacement battery they include the tiny little screwdrivers for free!

Since there's no Xiaomi service center where I live (EU), I had no other option but to dispose of my beloved F3. It was emotionally painful. I'm surprised that yours is still operational, given the severe Summer heat in the Middle East...

Bulged batteries are dangerous. The phone could explode or self ignite, which may in turn set not only your apartment, but the entire building on fire.

Anonymous, 20 Jan 2025Sony destroying competition Yes sony is good too. The only bad thing about sony is you will lose your camera function after bootloader unlock...

I'm not sure what people's expectations are for a phone of this price, but I think it's worth it overall.

I want a phone to hang on to for a few years. I still have a Poco F3 that has been great and I wouldn't be replacing it even now were it not for the fact that since the battery quick-charged in the direct sun once while in a thick case, here in the Middle East, it isn't holding it's charge very well.

...and that is my IMHO overlooked point here.

For me, I replace my phones in 3 scenarios:

                          - No longer holds a charge.
                          - Is now too weak to do something I need it to do.
                          - Destruction, loss or theft.

I don't chase the infinite tech curve so closely anymore.

So, for me, the chipset in the X7 Pro should be able to crunch any foreseeable applications for a few years.

As for the battery - and this is the kicker - being silicon carbon chemistry, will - according to a 5 second search on ChatGPT - last between 100% - 567% more charge-discharge cycles, so it should still be kicking around for a few years - especially with its IP rating and plastic backs.

...and, if you've made it this far into my tech philosophy class, I will say the following regarding the camera based on my own history in the field by quoting the famous saying "the best camera is the one you have with you''.

But why xiaomi is removing features like Samsung no audio jack and sd card reader and more. That's just silly.
They should add infrared flir sensor to the main camera. All phones should have flir infrared camera sensor.
