I think its a great phone all in all. I would definitely get this phone for my parents. They would appreciate the great speakers and daylight photos/videos. It looks good too.

It seems that after the success of Honor Magic 6 pro they didn't bother too much to create a better phone, it looks and sounds a like a step down from previous Honor.. disappointed.

PatDat, 17 Jan 2025Color science is below average, telephoto uses crop on alre... moreIt is evident that Apple has already strategically outmaneuvered its competitors, compelling nearly all Android manufacturers to emulate its approach—a tactic poised for failure. This phenomenon is particularly noticeable with Samsung and Google Pixel, both striving to replicate Apple’s model within the Android ecosystem, yet falling woefully short. But more concerning and disheartening is that the Chinese brands, at the forefront of innovation in recent years, are now adopting similar strategies.

Many users on this and comparable tech platforms frequently criticize Apple, often invoking the overused “iSheep” trope. However, by 2025, such critiques are increasingly detached from reality. Apple’s initial market dominance facilitated the cultivation of brand loyalty during a period when its smartphones lacked the comprehensive refinement they possess today. Presently, Apple’s ecosystem is highly addictive, featuring unparalleled software-hardware integration, arguably the best software support, a market-leading privacy policy for average users (who are unlikely to consider alternatives like the Librem 5 or GrapheneOS on a Pixel), and superior after-sales service, all contributing to its commanding market position.

In return, Android brands have tried teaming up with Leica, Zeiss, Hasselblad….

Apple’s extensive iCloud data repository enables computational capabilities that offset the limitations of its relatively modest sensors—a scenario unlikely to change soon. (The forthcoming iPhone 17 Pro Max is anticipated to be the FIRST iPhone ever equipped with three 50MP-class rear cameras, while the adoption of 1-inch sensors remains at least two to three years away!) If anything, in this regard, Apple is today in a better position relative to its rivals than it was when iPhone 11 Pro Max or iPhone 12 Pro Max came out. So Android manufacturers have sought partnerships with Leica, Zeiss, and Hasselblad to enhance their camera systems…

thus saving money on both batteries, but also SoC’s, for there is no Qualcomm intermediary), compounding its competitive advantage. These cumulative strengths make it nearly impossible for rivals to undercut Apple in without pursuing an alternative path akin to Huawei’s—focusing on authentic innovation and differentiation.

Furthermore, Apple’s unique SoC advantages (efficiency, no intermediary like Qualcomm…) have allowed the company to pair relatively modest battery capacities with excellent, almost class-leading endurance (thereby reducing costs associated with both batteries and SoCs…) These combined strengths render it exceedingly difficult for competitors to undercut Apple without pursuing a path similar to Huawei’s—emphasizing genuine innovation and differentiation.

Honor Magic 7 Pro 512GB may be priced like the regular iPhone 16 512GB, which in itself might render it appealing to some, but I think many reading this review would willingly pay an additional 200€ for enhancements such as a 6000–6500mAh battery or rear cameras comparable to those on the vivo X200 Pro or Oppo Find X8 Pro. When iPhone 17 Pro Max debuts with a 5000mAh battery, 12GB of RAM, and three robust 48MP cameras, Android smartphones will urgently need to reassess their competitive advantages and selling points. What will be their best „buy our devices instead of iPhones” arguments?

Will they tout a telephoto camera rated at 100 compared to Apple’s 90–95? Or QHD+ versus Apple’s 1320x2868 pixels display, which nonetheless offers Dolby Vision, impressive color accuracy, and brightness? Factors like optimization, calibration, and color science are crucial. If anything, Sony has retreated from 4K screens, and brands like Google and Honor have followed Apple’s lead by opting for displays just shy of perfect QHD+ resolution. Will they say: we have superior GPU and ours are better gaming devices? While Android devices may offer faster charging, endurance (GSM Active Score) and longevity are, in my opinion, more significant. (Tbf, in this regard, Android’s promise of 1600 charge cycles is a noteworthy advantage.)

To conclude, a very dispiriting but hardly surprising review. This seemed like a competitive device for 900€ net (factoring in a 300€ early discount and free earbuds potentially resellable for 100€)—coincidentally, 900€ is the net price for OnePlus 13 512GB at the moment—however, upon learning about the battery downgrade, I realized that unbridled optimism would be misplaced. OnePlus 13 also appears unimpressive. I guess one should wait for Vivo X200 Pro or Oppo Find X8 Pro (the global versions, that is) to drop to the 800€-900€ (brand new) range…

only honor stops after reaching that temp which only happens in GPU stress tests after 2 hours of testing while CPU (which you say its irrelevant) is completly stable
so its not stopping because it overheats but its either UI restriction for safety or a bug which could get fixed(lets not forget honor has a dedicated chip for its battery TEMP and charging mangement since Si/C batterys are way more prone to damage duo to heat and you can obviosly see its effect on battery life since it keeps up with 6000mAh batterys while being 12% smaller)
i still dont know what your comparing this phone to because those temps are normal......if you dont like the safety protocols under those temps thats another problem

I need new phone, 17 Jan 2025you just made those up.......its litrally most stable flags... moreThe CPU stress test done by gsmarena is irrelevant as it only stresses CPU, not SoC.

The whole phone temperature under stress is over 40C (over 42C on the front) up to 46C. And that's in indoor controlled enviroment. I can't imagine what is going to happen in the summer in the outside ☠️.

Wild Life Stress Test Stability is at measly 57.6%.
Steel Nomad Light Stress Test Stability is at 68.4%.

But, there is more - both gsmarena and notebookcheck reported that Magic7 Pro can't even pass 3DMark stress tests because phone so much 🔥 and app crashes.

                            P. S.
Sure, there are even worse models like Vivo X200 Pro, but even it didn't crash - Magic7 Pro results are bad and there is no around that.

It still has some caveats that doesn't make it the best flagship of the year. That doesn't change the fact it is an excellent phone. I won't get one since my Magic 6 Pro is so perfect for me that upgrading isn't worth. At least here in Latin America we will get the charger and the full battery capacity. I will never understand that stupid regional fragmentation.

I was calling out the Samsung S Series and Apple iPhone for having minor/minimal hardware updates compared to their immediate predecessors; It appears as though most flagships this year are relying on AI as the reason to get them this year.

Honor offering an early bird discount at £900 and they were throwing in the charger.

It'll be interesting to see if the S25U has any real hardware updates bar the Snapdragon Elite for Samsung
