Nokia N900 review: A new hope

26 November 2009
It’s crystal clear by now that the Nokia N900 has almost nothing to do with the traditional Nseries values. The full QWERTY side-slider may look similar to its double-digit mates but the Maemo experience is completely different...

All the Nokia fans that dissed the iphone when it came out because there was no MMS support

      How Ironic!!!!!!!!!!!

No MMS support on the N900!!!!!!

"My 5 year old phone can do MMS, what a letdown, epic fail!"

Every time I read a comment on gsm arena about N900, I shed a tear.... because Nokia Indonesia haven't put any small information on nokia.co.id. If I search N900 in the nokia.co.id, it would only said no product at all. :((((((... really sad.

After this review i prefer to buy Nokia N97, even i have a more favour to Maemo 5 OS. Reason, on Nokia N900 not a lot function compare with Nokia N97. Even video recorder on Nokia N900 just 25fps and no DivX player.

UI only works in landscape mode (for now)
              No smart and voice dialing
              Outdated camera interface and features
              No preinstalled voice-guided SatNav application
No voice recorder, no MMS, and no handwriting recognition
No FM radio application (despite that the hardware's there)
              And many more other reason.

Hope next time on other Nokia Maemo 5 OS handset many disadvantages will wanished.

On Nokia N900 i like ARM Cortex A8 600 MHz, PowerVR SGX graphics, Memory 32GB Hard Drive / 256 MB RAM / 768 MB ROM, Maemo (FF) browser.

Anonymous, 28 Nov 2009A device that makes call, receive text messages and respond... moreIt's the intent of the device. Nokia wanted to make it an 'internet anywhere' device and somewhat eat into the netbook crowd... the best way they could do so: make it into a smart-ish phone with a 3G cellular radio. Plus, this makes it to where people only need one device on them rather than 2 (or 3 or...).

It's like a PS3 or XBox360 w.r.t. integration of connectivity options. Yes, the Xbox or PS3 can connect to the internet and allow for chatting/voice/etc, but it's primarily a gaming system. Same is here: N900's primarily a internet/mobile computer but also allows for phone calls and SMS. It's not much different than the iPhone (I own a couple iPhones and I still think those are very much a iPod/internet/'app' device first, phone second), but the N900 goes beyond the iPhone's capabilities IMO.

I'm surprised at the number of people wanting a touch-only device posting here. It used to be that tactile keyboards were still 'the in thing.' When did this prominent attitude change?

                  iphone is NOT God!
there are so many other devices out there that out-taken the iphone by miles for example HD2, Palm Pre and N900..

Got mine today 28 November 09 from the Nokia Store in Regent Street London. I had pre ordered the phone over a month ago and FINALLY I have it. Feel sorry for those iPhone users. The official release date for the Nokia N900 for the public is 4 December 09.

If your in London go there now and collect your phone, the list of pre orders I saw is massive.

                          Nuff Said!

N900 is way better than iPhone
Don't mind the brick, it's thicker, so what, it's because of the keyboard, and it's so much more powerful with Linux than anything out there

                            A killer device for 2009 and 2010!

                                    The N900 arrived today.
It's probably the best investment I've made, upgrading from the N95

This device could last at least 2 years no matter how you think.
It is a geek device, not meant for mass market.

Anyone interested or is a Linux fan, you will be pleased with the amount of customisation you can do on this device.
