Samsung S8500 Wave review: Hello, world!

01 June 2010
Smartphone for the masses or feature phone of the future? Samsung would gladly have it either way. The question rather is, will the Bada OS keep up the pace of its debut device. We’ve been following the new smart platform since its first. Update: Samsung Dive overview added...

The review doesn't seem to talk about its email client in detail.
Does Samsung Wave support HTML email messages?
Like viewing pictures in email newsletters, etc.?
Also, does it support attachments (both sending and receiving)?
      Thank you.

It copies wallpapers and ringtones into memory in case you take out the memory card the settings won't reset to default and you can keep youre wallpaper and ringtone without the memory card. I dont think you can diactivate it but i dont see a big problem, that is unless you have a 50 MB ringtone and 25 MB wallpaper.

            @varun
i also have the same encounter with the ringtone being copied to the phone memory once you select it from the mem card.. same thing happens when you set your wallpaper.. once you select it from the mem card, the phone mem automatically copies it!.. its tasking to delete those files in the phone mem especially if youve changed your ringtone or wpaper a couple of times..anyone having the same experience? i mean, is it normal though?

Unless I'm missing something, why is there no mention of the PowerVR SGX540 in the review?

                    Hi,
I have a doubt, hope someone can help me..

When i select a song as ringtone from the memory card, it automatically adds that song in the phone memory. How can i avoid it ???

                    Thanks

I got my Wave and loving it. I am a low maintenance user, no texting or emailing, so I am fine. One question, will the Wave allow a Skype app. to be downloaded? I realize there might be software modifications however is it doable?

Great 'phone - Very poor PC connectivity software

I got this handset under contract from Virgin Mobile. My opinion is that the Wave GT-S8500 'phone is badly let down by Samsung's provided connectivity software which has issues and limitations relating to synchronizing Outlook contact and calendar information on a PC. I'm using the latest published version of Samsung Kies (version 1.5.1 with declared release date of 3 August 2010). When I attempt to synchronize the Samsung Wave GT-S8500 with my Microsoft Outlook 2007 calendar the Samsung Kies software advises "This function will be supported soon"!

Planning to buy this phone soon..

To all proud Indian Wave owners:

What's the size of the memory card (microSD) bundled out with the phone??

PS I know gsmarena reviewers have mentioned 1 GB. I guess it's region specific, because in the E72 review, it's mentioned that 4GB card is included by default. To my surprise when I actually bought the phone, it was 8GB! :) I was elated.

But the phone's software is extremely buggy! :(

What's up with this GSMarena reviewer? The reviewer complains this phone has got smart dialing and says it is useless, yet with the Samsung S5230 (Star) review the reviewer complains that phone has NO smart dialing, so what do the reviewer want, smart dialing or no smart dialing? Smart dialing is quite useful in the sense that when I receive my phone bill and I go through my itemize billing and I see a number I don’t recognize (maybe the call charge is high or many sms) I just type the first few numbers then up comes the name then I recall the details of that call or sms’s.

I found these criticism against BADA OS on wikipedia....how valid are they?...
                                    * Bada's application store is closed, and users are prevented from downloading apps from other sources.
                                    * The external sensor API is not open-ended, preventing new types of sensors or unexpected technology developments from being added in the future.
                                    * The Bada application cannot access SMS/MMS inbox or receive incoming SMS/MMS notification
                                    * Bada application framework only allows one Bada application at a time. Multitasking is possible between the base applications stored in ROM and one Bada application.

If you watch concept and progress, should call this phone ’Jet2’. But Jet was so big disappointment, Samsung couldn't carry on the name. Remember? Jet - smarter than a smartphone... :)
I hope Wave will be less bugy, and better widget equipped. Jet users should get discount on Wave's prize.

any news for text reflow in the browser? I really require it in my next phone purchase..

WAVE would be the perfect phone for me if text reflow will be implemented on its browser, or any other browser compatible with bada
