Nokia N8 review: Director of photography

12 October 2010
We’ve come to take Nokia for granted in the low end or the business class but it seems it has lost the knack for killer phones, run out of royal blood. It’s up to the Nseries to fix it all up. The Nokia N8 may just turn out to be the right cure. With that kind of hardware. Update, 08.02.2012: Symbian Belle update hands-on...

Hey All,

Just bought this phone yesterday.
Great phone,Touch is much better this time , compared to N97 and N97 MINI.Just one thing though whch I am struggling with right now.
I am unable to turn off wireless scanning.I tried various options in connection manager but it still scans and connects to the known network at my home.
Any suggestions??

Great review and quite fair. You readers out there need to realize that this is just a mid range phone and Symbian 4 hasn't even came out yet and for this phone to be this good is awesome. Far as the Galaxy S which had all sorts of problems and even with it's fast processor the phone freezes alot and Android is copying Apple in every way from design on to os, at least Nokia sticks to being different in trying to innovate. The E7 looks to have a better display then the Galaxy S and Iphone 4 and we are not sure if it will actually run Symbian 3 or 4 which still won't be Nokia high end phone. So look out Nokia is on the move.

I could not have said it better and have expressed a similar sentiment on numerous occasions.

User experience has become a phrase that many are throwing around at will now in an attempt to prove the greatness of their chosen phone. Hardware, functionality and the like are totally ignored in favour of this mysterious "user experience". My view is that the reason this is put forward as an argument is that it cannot be properly quantified and is therefore difficult to argue against.

So there has been much talk on here about opposition phone lovers coming onto this thread and trash talking. Accusations were quick to fly back about Nokia lovers doing the same, so it was with much interest that I entered the thread on the Android update for the Samsung Galaxy to see if this was the truth. There were after all already over 200 comments in there. What I found surprised me... well actually it just confirmed what I already knew!

On the two pages of comments I could be bothered reading through I did not find one Nokia/Symbian fan slagging Android but instead a whole bunch of Android fans second guessing their choice of phone and moaning about lag, delayed updates, battery life after upgrade etc etc etc.

And this was the device that all those who are interested in the N8 were told to rather rush out and buy.

It seems we were indeed right! The Samsung Galaxy boys are just in here to convince themselves that they did not bugger up! ha ha ha

rest all are identical - leave a few minor specs which make no real sense.

[deleted post]I don't know if the misspelling of your post and the overuse of punctuation is ironic or just demonstrates that you fall into the one of the three categories I mentioned.

The point is this: If you can't make a reasoned argument in proper bloody English then I doubt you have the intellectual capacity to make one at all.

although I used to compare n8 and iph4, now I get it. N8 is midrange phone afterall. Even gsmarena compares n8 to phones like wave and outdated X10 not galaxy S and iph4. hope nokia produces real iphone killer in next 10 years or probably 20

Nokia makes phones for everybody, from 20e to 6-700e, simply dont need to do challenge with any phone makers as is Market leader for ages! If they want to make a phone for almost 1000e they will made it a much much better then ip4, N8 is like a half price of ip4 and do much much more and better.Nokia is for sane people and lets iphone gay funs have an orgasms over fast turns display and apps.Like my colleague, she came so excited about some stupid sleep monitoring app.all she need to do it start app and put it under d pillow ;-)Doctors use a PSG electroencefalograf to do sleep monitoring, which cost eeeeeee! So wtf gay funs you are excited about apps ? That kind of apps you can have a millions per day and play stupid think with nonsense!!! Keep urself in ur gay blogs and forums and stop posting ur stupid subjective reviews. Thanks

And about the user experience thing. I think that user experience is subjective not objective. Someone may like the Nokia approach, another may like the Apple approach to things. Still another may like the Samsung or HTC approach. Who is to decide who had a better user experience? The meme that a certain phone has better user experience is a myth, because people like different things.
