let's see 2 months down the road how many would start to say:
- "my phone hangs a lot..."
- "I can't get this or that app like my friends' iphones on the OVI store"
- "How come the video on my friends' iphone4 looks MUCH BETTER than on my N8"
Can't agree more such is the BEST from the COMPANY, but not likely among the competitors.

Regarding all this talk of phone pricing, I thought I shared some research I did. Not all the phones I wanted prices on are released yet in SA so I checked out the UK new phone prices on Amazon UK to get an idea. This is what I found :
Nokia N8 £420
Galaxy S £430
BB Torch £479
HTC HD2 £472
iPhone 4 16Gb £629
And to think the bill of materials for the N8 and the iPhone only differ by a few cents... and iPhone owners wonder why other phone users point and them and snigger under their breath.

Anonymous, 18 Oct 2010i checked official price of n8 in india is 26259 inr which ... more26259 is mrp price in India and not discounted price. After discount one can purchase n8 around 24k.
Over priced iphone 3gs still cost around 32k approx. Which officially launched in India.

So I see that Allaboutsymbian has posted information that the N8 will get two major firmware updates before the end of 2010! This phone just keeps getting yummier and yummier. No doubt one of those updates will include the expected browser update!
"v11 currently (launch firmware, v12 expected in a few weeks, v20 before end 2010)"

The Nokia N8 is our first product to use an Active Hyper Focal Distance system. We have used hyper focal distance before but in the case of the Nokia N8 where the HD video demands greater focus precision, we needed to improve the dependability.
Many mobile phones which include autofocus use driving systems which rely on friction to a certain degree. However, in some cases after the lens has been driven to the desired position, it can ‘slip’ causing a shift in focus.
For this reason, we use an ‘Active’ system where we constantly measure the position of the lens and readjust it to maintain the hyperfocal distance if required. The use of this system allows us to provide sharp and highly detailed videos from approximately 60cm to infinity, without the need for focus adjustment.
Other systems may provide benefits for shooting at closer distances but in our evaluation, we found this to be less dependable in the vast majority of recording situations which are typically at distances greater than 60cm. On this basis, we concluded that – at this stage – it is better to improve the dependability of the video performance across a wide range of conditions regardless of light and contrast levels and subject/scene changes.
However, we are continuing to investigate the opportunity of providing a focusing system which provides the best of both worlds for possible implementation in the future.

One fact most people, reviewers and end users forget when reviewing products is the price. The Nokia N8 is priced at a point that it's competitors can never hope to dream of, like every Nokia phone is - that's what Nokia's business is lately, striking the sweetest deal between price and technology. So I guess we should give N8 its fair chance without comparing it to much expensive counterparts; which are only marginally better than the N8 anyway.
Also, we have to admit that the major crop of the reviewers have been merciless towards the N8. Only GSMArena seemed to have given it its fair chance - kudos to that.

Well I got the mobile and can say that am pretty much satisfied .. but I find the following negativities ..
1) hate the lack of camera lens (smudges :-( )
2) Replacable battery .. I really like to have a spare
3) symbian ^3 is actually a little scaled down where I find some of the options missing .. for example to set the memory on my messaging from my phone memory to my phone card or mass memory??
4) For all the functionality I find the interface a little stale .. for example .. anyone know how to make use of your digital compass?
5) the mobile is fast .. but not blinding fast .. for the money a 1ghz processor with a better ram would have been quite yummy. the wave has it which costs much lesser u know.
Apart from that .. great camera .. great screen .. good touch experience .. I love my N8 .. :-)

Thanks guys....
i have read the reviews on gsmarena and other websites... i find gsmarena review to be the most elaborate, honest and helpful... i have also checked the phone on the Nokia Priority Store... It felt nice in hand... and the phone is quite sturdy and doesn't feel like a toy phone... camera was superb.... On paper it is best phone and it beats Iphone 3gs hands down... After reading all the comments and reviews I have concluded that there are two shortcomings of the phone... (1) outdated look n feel of the OS, however functionality has been improved... As far as I am concerned I don't think Nokia Symbian 3 is that bad as has been criticised by some of the boarders however I agree that improvements can be done to make it the best.... (2) internet browser is outdated and slow.... in connection with which I believe I can install Opera Browser on the phone however I understand that Opera will not support Flash content.... I think I can live with these two shortcomings...
After all that research... I was just waiting for some reviews by actual users of the phone...
Thanks for helping guys... I am quite sure I will buy a N8 shortly...

Some critique of the OS is relevant if you have never used Symbian before because the interace is the same (slightly dated), but the functinoality is so improved and its much sleeker and finally good for touchscreen.
The camera speaks for itself, havent used my other digital camera since I bought my N8...not in day light or in clubs.
The apps work great (purchased or free, although some have annoying ads), and if you like Ovi Suite the N8 is ready to go.
I say buy it, I love mine, but I dont mind custmoizing my profiles at first which Apple or Android owners might find to be a "non smooth transition".

Parth Toley, 18 Oct 2010Hey All,
Just bought this phone yesterday.
Great phone,... moreSeems like many people have this issue i read it in forums. Whenever you have settings that you need to change, explore the settings > network section. You can select to connect to network manually/only when asked or something similar. You can choose between dual connection or GSM only. All Symbian phones are similar (if you have used one before, it was the same on my N95).
Note that if you are not using the widgets on a regular basis like facebook or twitter, set the widgets on offline mode (homescreen > options). These widgets often try to connect to any networks to get updates every 1 hour (it doesn matter it u r on unlimited data plan) but bear in mind this auto-update process drain your battery fast.
