Nokia N8 review: Director of photography

12 October 2010
We’ve come to take Nokia for granted in the low end or the business class but it seems it has lost the knack for killer phones, run out of royal blood. It’s up to the Nseries to fix it all up. The Nokia N8 may just turn out to be the right cure. With that kind of hardware. Update, 08.02.2012: Symbian Belle update hands-on...

Ocel, 14 Oct 2010Help? Keeps rebooting too often and sometimes not respon... moreSince the battery is not removable, the only option is to completely deplete it. To do that faster put the N8 in the freezer at -16°C.
            Or give it back.

Script warnings about facebook and shuts down application...

Is anyone else having same problems?

Guys, I have seen the video as well. Well, if you ask me, the N8 user was typing s-l-o-o-o-w which made me think that the objective of the video is to make N8 lovers sad. But then I have an answer for you as well. Go and see it for yourself:

Shashank, 13 Oct 2010Actually, N91, N73 and the biggest of all, the N95 went on... moreYes I know! I like Nokia and N8 too!
But my matter IS UI! Which seems really old-fashioned! and it can't be justified!

[deleted post]You charge the phone twice a day? You must have done something wrong with the battery. I charge my SGS every two days of average use. But, I kill apps using the task killer, I switch off the wi-fi when I'm not browsing the net. Anyway, what are U doing on the N8 forum? You miss "Active Diverts" pop-up?

Guys..Lets thank Nokia for this amazing camera phone. Phones like N8 will only lead to a stiffer competition and consumer is the winner here. Lets stop bashing iphones or nokias and start appreciating the competition they bring in. I am quite excited about the windows 7 phones too.

The web link here is not working properly. The problems of Nokia 7230 are found at Nokia's support site. Search for the topic "7230 and video site Veoh.com" if ur interested. N8 should fully support web browsing and web videos out of the box. According to Nokia's support pages there are certain problems with video player and internet connection with
apps like cnn video, cinema app! Thus N8 is not perfect.. in that regard.

Good review. Really good. The camera test was the best part.
Really nice to read that the still camera is so superior compared to other phones. Video camera of the phone is not full HD.
User interface and such things are most often the matters of personal taste.
The web browser pain of Nokia and other brands. I have tested video site veoh.com
with Iphone 4, one old Nokia phone, 3270 and N95, N97 and N900. Videos are quickly and easily watched with IP 4. Video Groups are not shown in the phone. N900 with Mozilla technoloy works well too. It seemed to be extremely slow to browse websites. (migh have been due to some problems in the data link.) N95+ N97 could not play Veoh-videos cause the flash version was not the right one!!
Here is the dicussion about the problems of 7230
                              http://discussions.europe.nokia.com/t5/Other-Nokia-Phones/7230-and-video-site-Veoh-com/td-p/772995

Next I am going to test C5. Those tests are not professionally conducted and phones were not with the latest software updates. But it's weird that such a big company as Nokia can't produce products that are ready for video watching right out of the box. Internet and internet videos have been available so long that even the slowest engineers should have figured out that their phones must be video-ready right away.

The best and most likely killer application of N8 was not mentioned in the test: the WEB-tv. Nokia says it in this way:
"The Nokia N8 with on-demand Web TV. Access your favourite TV channels like CNN and National Geographic and get them piped to your phone from the comfort of your bus seat. Visit Ovi Store to find even more Web TV channels."

Engineer Man, 14 Oct 2010I just would like to say a few things before I get started.... moreSomeone already pointed this earlier, but there is actually a reason the camera UI uses double tap instead of single to select.

The first tap is preview. So you can quickly single tap through the list to see the effect the choice has on the image and when you find good choice you tap it again to take it in use. I would say this is a great feature instead of UI problem.
