Nokia N8 review: Director of photography

12 October 2010
We’ve come to take Nokia for granted in the low end or the business class but it seems it has lost the knack for killer phones, run out of royal blood. It’s up to the Nseries to fix it all up. The Nokia N8 may just turn out to be the right cure. With that kind of hardware. Update, 08.02.2012: Symbian Belle update hands-on...

People fail to understand that symbian is not in need of such hardware requirements. i compared a legend on eclair and a 5630 and the latter won straight up in speed. every os has its compromises and unless you can make your own os dun critique others oses

What is this apps apps apps...........I am using an Android phone and it is just so annoying to have 100s of apps for one single thing.....this is something that increases their count in the store and frustrates me. I have N900 too and well it might not have that huge count as of other app stores but whatever it has got it very very useful and there are no unnecessary repeats. Grow up guys......when we say apps, they must be useful in the long run........like a media player that can display subtitles for videos not an another media player with different UI.

        Another thing-
GSM Arena simply deletes my comments highlighting their favoritism towards Samsung.....if such is the case, please mention this too as something in your rules for posting comments. When you delete those, you simply reinforce our inference.

N8 Lover, 13 Oct 2010I want to address comments about S^3 'sucks' and stuff. ... moreI appreciate your brand fidelity, but you are at a lose. Lexus is not cheaper than BMW and Mercedes, it's just uglier.
Nokia might have pioneered something (so did Apple with the touchscreen, and Samsung with Amoled), but Nokia is behind the curve now, if you know what I mean. They did not move on with the competition on hardware (again it's about processor speed, ram, screen), and OS UI.
Yes, you may find apps for Nokia outside the Ovistore, but the point is those apps are like Dos 6 apps vs. Windows/Mac apps when compared with Android and iOS apps.
You mention Spb shell. Do you agree with me that sbp shell matches or surpasses the functionality of Symbian ^3?

You know, they call people that you are referring to as 'office plankton'. It's a fitting term.
Anyhow, I guess all my points were lost on you, you clearly have no use for a productive tool. Enjoy your iOS or WP7.

For editing documents, using it as a storage medium, creating and editing graphs, financial tools on the go.. you name it. With Maemo I can even do some Linux programming."

I pity you if you have to edit documents on a mobile. Really. Use a laptop/netbook (with physical keyboard and a mouse or a track pad) for God's sake.
And I pity the company who allows its employees to use their personal phones for storing (confidential) company documents.

Yea, as I said, when you are in a tree it's easy to do programming on a mobile:)).

I want to address comments about S^3 'sucks' and stuff.

Nokia is the pioneer in smartphones. While every other brand was struggling to make a phone, nokia released the 7710, complete with full multitasking, 168MHz processor and Series 90 interface. Then WinMo came about, but Symbian was still the leader. Everything behind Symbian has been well thought of before being implemented. Symbian is like a Lexus, cheaper than BMW or Mercedes but twice as good. They target a different market, so I believe it is unfair for comparision. Symbian targets the heavy user with niche features.

Secondly, about apps. Apps are NOT limited to the Ovi Store. Why, there are numerous third party suppliers that supply apps for us. See SPB shell, vHome and so many others! Symbian is the mother of all OSes, and the best of them all.
