Mark, 13 Oct 2010Alui,
As the review points out, it's horse for courses. ... more"As the review points out, it's horse for courses. The SGS does not have a flash, has an inferior camera, worse hardware, worse battery life, poor GPS implementation, worse call quality and lacks the Nokia's connectivity options. "
- worse hardware?!!! no reply needed here:)
-an inferior camera - maybe, but the question is : what is sufficient? See some photos made with the SGS and tell me if you need better ones for facebook or photo albums.
-worse battery life? maybe, but again SGS battery lasts enough to see a full movie and some more). Four hours of full use I say is enough for a day.
-worse call quality? it's a phone, not a hi-fi audio system. Too bad you cannot put an incoming call on speaker on a Nokia like on the SGS.
-connectivity options?!!! Check the feature page of the SGS you'll see usb, blu-tooth, DLNA, TV out. Yes, you cannot connect directly to an USB flash card of a colleague, but I did not see one of that in years. What's wrong with the e-mail, blu-tooth, usb?

I think its not fair, unbiased or balanced review. Through all the review there's continuous tilt towards uplifting N8 without solid supportive justifications. GSM Arena's reviews are losing credibility!

Alui,
As the review points out, it's horse for courses. The SGS does not have a flash, has an inferior camera, worse hardware, worse battery life, poor GPS implementation, worse call quality and lacks the Nokia's connectivity options. On the other hand it has a better screen, nicer UI and more fleshed out app store.
Fine, you like the SGS. We get that. There's no need to keep justifying buying a product you seem to have some doubts about.

Alui, 13 Oct 2010LOL, GSMArena mentioned Motorola and Sony-Ericsson phones a... moreActually Symbian is more "free" than Android. It is also fully open source, but unlike Android the development code is also available plus it is not tied to one appstore like Android.
Symbian is also the more customizable of the two. Android phones actually need to be rooted etc. to do serious customizations, do you call that open?

Alui, 13 Oct 2010LOL, GSMArena mentioned Motorola and Sony-Ericsson phones a... moreStrange, my message was cut. I wanted to say that the only problem of SGS (Android before 2.2) is that you need a task killer, which you can get for free from the app market. About the camera, the pictures taken with a phone endup in a site like flickr or facebook, which do not need such a high resolution (5 MPix is the optimal res).

LOL, GSMArena mentioned Motorola and Sony-Ericsson phones as "top competition" for N8. They did not mention (the cheaper) SGS with 16GB internal memory and Superamoled, total software freedom (I found on the web the Angry Birds Lite for my SGS:), and Froyo on the way.
You also have free sat nav as long you stay in your home network with Google maps, not to mention that you can watch FULL Avi/DivX/etc movies (larger files than 2GB). The only problem of the SGS (in fact of Android

so what if the browser sucks...
you only need it to download opera or some other 3rd party browser
video player not perfect
well, smartmovie, coreplayer?
limited 3rd party software
how many apps do you really need? i prefer quality over quantity
and keep in mind, nokia will release at lease two updates for n8
after which it will be perfect

spyros, Athens, Gree, 13 Oct 2010Question: How come you point out N8's battery life as one o... moreFully agree with you. See the preview of Windows Phone 7. How the reviews said good inspite of missing out of multiple features. I guess it will be sold to ppl who will be locked to the phone and network. They will have no other choice when they latter realize they have been swindled.

Anonymous, 13 Oct 2010N8 have a great camera, but it is to bulky and looks ridicu... moreI do believe that editing is not a problem on low pixel resolution. But rather on a small screen. The only advantage is text will look sharper and smoother on high res screen. Let's say, if the app requires that amount of text to be displayed. It will be displayed regardless of how many pixels there is. If you'll use the full potential of wvga, the minimum size of text it can display will be hard to read because it's too small anyway. So that's what you call pointless. But for a matter of decorating the spec sheet, it's quite inevitable. Especially when geeks are too delusional on everything that sounds high-end. I'm not saying it's bad, it's good actually. But calling nhd useless is nonsense to me.

Anonymous, 13 Oct 2010Android has greater Freedom!I have htc sense as my homescreen on my symbian. I use droid sans condensed as my font(for today) I know where all my files are saved. I can transfer any file over bluetooth. The option to install apps on sd cards has been there long ago.
To put it short, let's say symbian has no restrictions, any limits, at all. Except accessing system and private folders which needs hacking.
But i'll be honest, i don't know any about android except those things that can be read on paper. And based on what's written on paper, symbian has absolutely more freedom. Correct me if i'm wrong.

Are you cojmpletely blind? Right side of the image is totally washed out and blurry! Left side is pretty OK. I couldn't stand photos with unsharp spots. This one fails totally. Look better at the synthetic resolution images.

subho, 13 Oct 2010Seems like n82 is still the king of night photography.Hi, just wanted to clarify something.
The flash module component in the N8 is 30% smaller than that used in the N82. However the flash power is effectively the same.
You'll get a lot more detail with the N8 vs the N82 and in practice cover the same distance or greater.
