Nokia N8 review: Director of photography

12 October 2010
We’ve come to take Nokia for granted in the low end or the business class but it seems it has lost the knack for killer phones, run out of royal blood. It’s up to the Nseries to fix it all up. The Nokia N8 may just turn out to be the right cure. With that kind of hardware. Update, 08.02.2012: Symbian Belle update hands-on...

thank you for good review. I knew that the N8 has the best camera in phone industry, and also the Nokia has the best connectivity in the world. I had many Nokia, SE, Samsung, Moto, HTC etc. phones and I can responsibly tell that only Nokia, SE and Moto can make real good phones. So, no doubt, N8 will be my next phone.

      Finally N8's review is up.

I can see the video of Wave is better than iphone 4 lol... if compare to N8... er... i still prefer Wave coz of the details.

If it is really priced more than Galaxy S... i think get Galaxy S better lol... although Camera is not that good.

Look at the video of the UI... looks smooth.

So if compare Wave audio quality to this N8... which one is the best? I cant see any Wave audio quality with headphone attached. GSMARENA plz revise the Wave audio quality with headphone attached.

I guess Samsung Wave is kinda bang-for-buck mobile phone. And I keep my MotoZine for capturing. the rest, Samsung Wave. Thank you very much for the review, GSMArena....

Seeing all the crops i honestly think there's no difference between both cameras, other than the difference of exposure i.e pixon having slightly higher exposure. The flash performance of N8 isnt good enough, we dont really care if the flash size is 1mm less than N82's. In the end i think all this hype was for nothing, N8 doesnt give anything exceptional apart from better performance in low light maybe. I really dont get how gsmarena crowned it king of cameraphones, i would go for pixon12 instead of N8 because its way cheaper now AND its battery is replaceable.

Anonymous, 13 Oct 2010Actually this is the redeeming point... It's like buying... morethe camera on this seriousley kicks some reall arss this time around, and nokia do sofware updates and will make it better, the only thing I dont understand is WHY DONT NOKIA PUT IN AUTO FOCUS IN THE VIDEO COMPARTMENT? hopfully they will resolve this in a software upgrade, but am still getting this phone!
you guys on here make this phone sound like its the worse but its not, (im not talking about you gsmarena im talkng about the people on ere)

Am I the only one that thinks that the pixon 12 had better pictures than the n8?

I checked the pictures several times and it seems the pixon 12 is a winner here.

I was looking fwd to the N8, but after doing an in depth analysis I prefer to continue with my N95 8GB & E72.

Hope Nokia get things straighten out soon or I would have no options to go Iphone4 or HTC Desire HD

                    N8 vs X10

By the end of the month, x10 will have android 2.1 support, and HD-720 video recording. Bigger screen, better app store. Who needs lifetime sat-nav when smartphones comes with data plans?

Better browsing experience, more apps, bigger screen, and a muuucch more polished UI. Not this outdated feature-phone looking menu system.

                    x10 > N8

"We’ve given up looking for the ultimate smartphone, haven’t we? The Nokia N8 most certainly isn’t in contention there. And Symbian ^3 is not the best touchscreen experience you can get – although what’s fair is fair – it’s an improvement over S60 5th. And the Ovi store isn’t the best app market, but the guys behind it try really hard."
Nice try nokia but n8 still sucks! Never buy this phone

I just ordered the black one. Should be getting it soon. Getting rid of my Nexus One for it. It does 99% of what my N1 does plus the best camera with much better battery life and not everyone in the NY will have it makes it pretty cool, hehe! All I have to do is carry this phone and I'm set. I don't know why you people are bitching about Symbian^3, it's not as bad as you make it seem .. I'll probably be the only cool dude with it while everyone else will have their iP4 and Droids .. lol

Thanks for the review, GSMArena. I've made a decision based on the reviews so far, and finally including this one, that I am not buying the N8.

Symbian has a long long way to go, and the inability to play HD videos more than 2GB is just one of the bigger stumblings that I thought they wouldn't have a problem with. (The interface issues obviously number 1 reason.) The weaker flash seems to hurt it as well so I might just stick to my N82 for camera purposes while I use an Android for everything else.

Unfortunately Nokia is showing no signs of accelerating their OS development or even moving into Meego anytime soon. Even if they come out with a Meego in a year, imagine what iOS and Android looks like then? Imagine their App stores as well. Sadly, time to move on for me.
