HTC Desire Z review: Desires A-to-Z

12 November 2010
A few months ago, the original Desire was teaching younger Droids the ropes. Though it’s no time to retire just yet, the next generation is ready to take over. And we’re talking no rookie here – the new Desire Z means business with a great QWERTY keyboard...

The lack of a secondary camera is not an issue for me as no one I normally call uses video conferencing either.

Probably the only thing good in this phone is the "sleep mode" power off.

Amazing Phone. Bought mine in the UK. The battery lasts more than 24 hours (even with pretty heavy usage - lots of internet and phone calls).
            HTC - Great Job!!!

My Desire Z battery lasts half a day max. It's because of poorly written android multitasking and using software drivers instead of hardware which suck the battery dry.

I compared It to my friends new Omnia 7 and that lasts a whole day with EVERYTHING on - 3g, wifi, push email, gps etc.

So at least Microsoft have now worked out how to save battery I hope android do soon.

Hi, I was interested in buying a good Android QWERTY phone.. and that statement in itself reduced the competition (for me) to Desire Z and Milestone 2.. but both these phones have one major problem, no front facing camera..!!! Wouldn't you expect that for the amount you are going to splurge on getting these phones..?!!

Would anyone know any other alternative or a good solution to this problem..??

I'm actually wondering what a "day" is in your reviews of the battery life. Is it a "work" day ie. 8h or 12h or 24h? A day is a very subjective thing to measure by.

You can easily burn thru ANY phone's battery in 2 hours just by maxing brightness, playing a 3D game and switching on 3G, wifi, gps and bluetooth and making them do stuff in the background as well.

I have the T-Mobile G2 although mine is a slightly different phone than the HTC Desire Z, I think the lag seems to be a Sense UI thing because my phone is blazing fast. As for battery, my phone lasts way longer than 2 hours under heavy usage (Games, Browsing, Wifi on, Gps on, Widgets all over the place).

I had to buy another battery to keep in my pocket as It keeps running out even though I charge it every night.

And will the next update finally remove the lag?

I dont understand, HTC is such a rich company with high revenue and an amazing cell phone team, how hard would it be for them to team up with a lens maker or external team to make a great camera phone?
