Google Nexus 4 review: Royal road

07 December 2012
It's the next-generation Nexus and this time LG has the privilege. And when Google goes "My pleasure!", they most likely mean it. The Nexus 4 aggressively undercuts competitors' pricing as it sets out to wipe the floor with most of them in terms of speed and...

Apart from only having 16gb and no sd card the nexus 4 doesnt have usb OTG.
This rules out the phone for me... I would still consider for my wife but the sgs3 it better.

Was thinking of exchanging (trading) the S3 vs Nexus 4, especialy since now i also have a Nexus 7... will still test the N7 for a month, to make up the mind... if the S3 camera in my view is poor, than N4 is what (based on review).
Benchmarks also dont give a clear clue...
Thanks for the review, but in my decision - no help :)

What competitors we have? Lets see:
Samsung Galaxy S III, who can't match LG Optimus 4 price
LG Optimus G, who can't match LG Optimus 4 price
HTC One X, who can't match LG Optimus 4 price

Um... maybe its better to also compare to devices in a similar price class or slightly higher?
It would be hard to find a device with similar price and similar internals, but what if we forget about 4-core CPU and try to find a similarly speedy offer with Android 4.0 or more recent OS version, with 4.3" or bigger screen? There are many more phones on sale, other than flagships, and they, too, deserve attention.

IMO: flagship device with 4.7-inch HD screen should have more than 16gb memory, for me its a deal breaker.

AnonD-53700, 08 Dec 2012Nexus 4&10 come with Chrome instead of standard aosp br... morechrome is not laggy on the nexus 4

but yes on other devices(especially those with 512mb RAM)it might lag since it consumes just too much RAM(more than any game or any other app in playstore)

I am better off with dolphin browser or UC browser.
as far as sync is concerned I don't like all sync and data from chrome since google chrome (even on desktop) steal data from page history, cache etc.(not any secure info like passwords) to better serve ads and search engine predictions....its a bit infringing on privacy.

Nexus 4&10 come with Chrome instead of standard aosp browser. Chrome is good if you want your browsing history and favorite pages to in sync between all your devices. BUT IS NOT THE FASTEST ANDROID BROWSER or the best. It's lagging while scrolling, zooming, etc.

The fact that despite being warned all reviewers are still using chrome, and more, they act innocently like "what's with this bad performance" when in fact they know the answer ... it's the proof of bias that most of the tech sites have in the favor of Apple.

2nd the difference from the back of the phone is huge as you can see :

I am with you that the front of phones are so look alike but considering the difference from the back I suggest that you just show them the phone from the back to your friends.
Also there is the micro sim from the side that you need a special tool to open it can be something to prove to your friends that it is the New Nexus.

YOU SHOULD AVOID buying ANY phone with modified (read: BROKEN EXPERIENCE) Android from HTC, Samsung, and so on.

Fair review as always, except the camera department... you should retest the camera in good lighting conditions, otherwise it is an unfair comparison with other phones.
We cannot tell the real quality of the camera from your samples: we cannot evaluate dynamic range as this requires a brightly lit scene, and we cannot evaluate detail, noise and the noise reduction algorithm because in bad weather the phone is probably using higher ISO. Yes, the pictures are a bit noisy, but we don't know how the other phones would perform in the same conditions and we don't know how this phone would perform in good weather.
It is clear that you had to release the review and could not wait forever, but I think you should have suspended the judgment on the camera until you had the chance to take pictures in good weather.

It is NOT Nexus 4 that doesn't support flash. It is Android 4.1 and up that are not supported. BTW one can easily sideload flash apk and there you go
