Google Nexus 4 review: Royal road

07 December 2012
It's the next-generation Nexus and this time LG has the privilege. And when Google goes "My pleasure!", they most likely mean it. The Nexus 4 aggressively undercuts competitors' pricing as it sets out to wipe the floor with most of them in terms of speed and...

The only thing appealing on android to me is Google Now. Android just hasn't got the touch of smoothing an OS (not just yet), all that "I got the most apps, customization and freedom" is all BS. Apple has the most apps (and in most cases are superior to their android counterpart)

To me, touch sensitivity on an apple device is still a lot better than android and that is one of the first things I consider when making smartphone purchase decisions.

Till touching on android devices get somewhere on par with iphones, I am not buying an android device. And those nokia WP even seem to have better touch sensor integration with the OS and that alone would make me choose it over an android device any day.

This phone looks like exactly like Galaxy Nexus. How will my friends understand that I've bought a new phone?

"Note that there's a limit to the size of the area you can cache - you can't just make all of Europe available offline, not even a whole country. We managed to cache London and some surrounding regions before Maps told us the area is too big. Also, there's no address search in the cached maps and you can only cache map data in supported regions of the world."
Sadly GooGle maps are still not on par with Nokia maps in offline mode plus Nokia has the Nokia drive for free online/offline navigation.

for this kind of hardware, Google should at least considre using a better battery / more internal space.

it seems like they just lowered the specs in order to be able to make this device as cheap as they can,
and that is not acceptable (by me at least).

Pg 10, it should be DC-HSDPA (42Mbps) and not 21Mbps. Also, maybe mentioning the LTE capabilities via AWS (1700 MHz) band. I know it's not listed under the FCC doc's but it is there and wasn't removed with the 4.2.1 update :)

Awesome device. But lacks USB OTG. Guess I'll have to wait for the s4 or the next HTC flagship.

GSMarena, Just a suggestion, when doing the battery test could do the test for chrome and any other 3rd party brower(ex: dolphin browser). I dont think chrome is hardware accelerated yet and a case could be made that if enabled could improve battery life. The dolphin beta for 4.2 is.

thz z the worst nexus i should say, not by specs or features but by marketing point of view... it costs mere 30$ less than galaxy S3 in my country, ofcourse the 16gb version as i guess buying 8gb is complete pointless... most people who planned to buy it are switching over to S3 n there z again increase in sales of S3 while samsung has cut the price of S3 n it costs less than one x now in my country... also nexus is not providing earphones thus bying nexus 4 with earphones will cost same as buying 16 gb S3 n u can expand its memory through sd card... S3 is much better than this if u compare overall as it is getting updates really fast, also performance wise it is equivalent to nexus 4...

AnonD-27765, 08 Dec 2012This phone is for people who can't afford a Samsung Galaxy ... moreI agree, the SGS3 is probably the better phone. The big selling points of the Nexus 4 is the price and the fact you get the latest android..

(ps, everyone raves about getting a "pure" version of android with no touchwiz or sense baked in. I purchased a Nexus 10 and was disappointed with 4.2. There is a lot of features that Samsung adds that are missing (i do use Go launcher not touchwiz though)

My friend have sell his GS3 to order this one because was not qualitative as a HTC/Sony, and software buggy also with 4.1 (definitely you can not compare with a Nexus device)...

why doesnt gsmarena add another MAJOR flaw and turn it as an advantage instead?

im talking bout the price..yea i said it! while the price in playstore is cool, the price tagged by lg is $600!! add another couples of bucks, u get s3, which is a better phone in every way (camera, battery, screen) or an iphone if u got many apple products and complete the ecosystem... up to you..
                                  BUT...
consider the countries who dont have playstore services, gsmarena..

for me this phone is Vastly superior than all other products

                                    A) Unlocked!!!
                                    B) penta-band 3G frquencies
                                    C) Rapid and frequent software updates

No product at any price can compete with these specifications. It allows me to use lower cost pay as you go carrier options with a modern smart phone. I am saving multiple hundreds of dollars a year with such a choice.

070coffeeshop, 08 Dec 2012lmfao why do people bias device performance on f*king outda... more100% true. I'm a Android Dev and all people that believe benchmarks are fools. The Nexus 4 is the fastest device. It has quality software & hardware. Never buy a samsung/LG/HTC you will be outdated in 8 months. With Nexus your good for atleast 2-3 years of quality software and IMO that's what satisfies people. Even if your phone has awesome specs, with crappy software it will be useless. Go for Nexuz>Sony. Never buy a samsung/LG/HTC or any device with slow updates. Those companies don't give a piece of f*** about customers. They only think about making money, so they'll refuse to update so u can buy their new phone in less than a year. I prefer an updated nice UI & software than having a 40MP octocore 2ghz and big GPU. It will be sh*t without proper software, hope people will understand..
