16 January 2013
So, this may as well be the first against the last of their respective kind. Nokia would gladly try and sell you PureView in various wraps and Android-powered cameras are not unheard of, but a shootout like this...

if you are not an internet obssessed freak, checking facebook and youtube in every hotspot, nokia 808 is the best phone in the world. only internet speed is slow. in rest all is perfect:battery, reception, acoustics, gps. practically with this tool you do not need anymore to invest money in a spare compact photocamera and a spare video camera anymore, wich WILL become dusty AND QUASI-USELESS in your home waiting for the holidays. only these two tools make the price of nokia 808 to be a real bargain

it will be a HUGE waste with windows cause the UI is too simple..nothing can be really added to it...therefore it sucks....android,symbian,Meego,BB10 all have much better UI because it's not a basic layout like
      iOS LOL

It is stupid of Nokia not to build a 808 successor, with Windows Phone OS or MeeGo. There's no other camera phone in the world like this. Even the 920 is a toy compared to this phone.

I could even bear the Symbian OS, but the display resolution of 808 and it's relatively small size makes it unusable for me. Today I (and most of the people I think) need at least 720p display (if not 1080p) at at least 4.5".

Haha! You are wrong in many ways. I have never owned any Nokia phone in my entire life. Currently own a SAMSUNG Ass 3. I like samsung but you are obviously a samsung fanboy. You arguing with a person who actually owned a DSLR and shoot professional photos.

In photography world, Carl Zeiss lens is always preferable but due to its price, better off with Tamron.
Samsung never make a good camera. They can make a excellent camera phone but not camera.

anyway, verry nice review from GSMA. The only thing I didn't understand was why in the lumia920 vs iPhone 5 the OiS wasn't such a big deal and here they said
"Having a proper optical stabilization makes a world of difference. It's especially noticeable when you're trying to hold still", but they reversed it in the right direction about the GC
"It's not all good though - the Camera is bigger than most micro four thirds and costs as much. Most disappointingly, it is miles behind them in terms of actual quality" :)...the thing is in my country GC is 450euro and for that money you can get much better optics, 808 is 350euro:)

Anonymous, 17 Jan 2013sorry bud, camera phones have been around for a while. 808 ... moreThe 808 isn't an innovation of cameraphone. Yes cameraphone has been in this world for a long time. What so amazing about it is it's sensor and the Pureview tech. No one has ever managed to use big sensor and oversample the image to produce an amazing picture. The 41MP sensor on a phone is also new.

Gsmarena, please edit your conclusion, regarding custom camera interface. For years there is an app that does just this: provides a different camera interface. It's called (and I'm not related in any way with it or anything below) CameraPro. It is beeing used on N8 and there is compatibility with 808 either. Also, you can find another camera app, it's called Camera Plus. I'm sure there are more apps that gives a different UI for capturing images, you just have to search them.

I prefer the Nokia 808 Pureview because it's cheaper , more portable , and has full smartphone functionality and of course a perfect camera .

BTW i own a nokia 808 pureview and it's perfect

                                        1. nokia 808 also has a front camera.

                                        2. Battery life of nokia 808 is better than samsungs. If you are a camera enthusiast you can upgrade it to mugen batterry.

                                        3. You can listen to your songs on 3.5 earphones..which is not the case with galaxy camera.

                                        4. The weight of the samsung camera is twice than nokia 808. Playing games, or surfing would be a pain for your hands compared to nokia 808.

5.you still have to carry a phone along with galaxy camera.

                                        6. NokiA 808 is cheaper than galaxy.
