Previous model of HTC (One X+) already had 8 M-pixel camera, same as previous model of Samsung (S3).
Nothing prevented HTC to continue fooling the buyers and put one more bigger M-pixel camera.
But they did very brave and I admire them for that: knowing that this will cause negative comments from people who only count megapixel they still reduced number of pixels and increased the size of them. I am sure people over there understand the reason better than us, poor consumers. :)
Good luck HTC, wish you all the best.
P.S. Really - my Nikon D200 has 10 Megapixel sensor and often I have to reduce the size of photos to 6 Mp or less.
13 Megapixels on an Smartphone's sensor? Who are you fooling, Sammy...?

I finally got my hands on the Galaxy S4 and I must say its not all that !!
If you own a S3, keep it, not worth the upgrade. It's more like the Galaxy S3's than the Galaxy S4.
For me it's HTC One all the way, I really like BlinkFeed, I find the other OS's boring and uninformative. If you want a Toy, Galaxy S4, if your man, the man up and get the One

Samsung under investigation for online fake reviews against HTC. Guess Samsung considers HTC One enough of a threat. Wonder if GSMArena will report this, it's already all over other news sites.

AnonD-129740, 15 Apr 2013Sure nothing come close to the S4. Nothing come close to th... moreFor your info, the S4 feels good in the hand, it's just light-weight... like a feather almost, seriously.
Yes the Htc and Nokia "feels" better but its also a lot heavier. It's a trade off.
I'll take the superior phone with a case anyday.
The S4 has a good speaker, the One has front-facing speakers which are ugly but awesome. Awesome for the douchey tween that actually listens to music, annoyingly to others, through their phone speakers.
Trust me, when you hook up the phone to my surround sound system, there is no noticeable difference, and certainly not a difference that would sway me towards one phone or the other.
Look at the stuff that matters, and get out of denial. The One is an Awesome phone, the S4 is slightly better at almost everything. I will buy the S4 for this reason alone. Put the adjustable AMOLED on the One or Z, give it better battery life, and I might buy HTC or Sony (Sony and Samsung are great in my opinion). Simple as that.

S4 for sure, 12 Apr 2013HTC One got nothing come close to S4, other than just the l... moreSure nothing come close to the S4. Nothing come close to the feeling of holding a cheap feeling phone after paying premium prices for it. I am not saying plastic is bad but Nokia (and like it or not HTC) have both proven that plastic can be made better than whatever Samsung is doing with it.
The One fails in recording aspect because it can't correctly capture all the unnecessary noice the S4 is "capable" of capturing due to its dual voice membrane.
The One also fail in having equal (dare I say better) sound quality as the S4 that majority of the world is getting (Snapdragon variant) because according to you the Snapdragon's DAC is utter crap.
The One also fail in having proper front facing speakers that is louder than any phones because we love to cup our hands around our phone while sharing videos/songs with others as that definitely sounds better.
And of course I should believe whatever you say with your godly username of "S4 for sure" as it definitely a username a genius will choose who have profound technical background in all aspects of phones. Anandtech's related field experts that help chip in the One's review definetely have no idea what they are talking. So all the facts in the review are wrong. And of course every law of Physics will bend in your favour.
Tl;dr version: Yeah HTC One is so damn far and worse than the ever godly S4. Let's rejoice in the world of Apple and Samsungs.

Alberto , 12 Apr 2013Hey guys what would you prefer s4 (quad core version) or HT... moreBelow is quoted from few comments by others in "HTC One - user opinions and reviews" section. I think they are informative and should be shared in here too. I made some minor changes where I think fit:
Now we are talking about 4MP vs 13MP. HTC is in the low MP range. The difference is very huge.
1) When you ZOOM IN to see the image, there is a big different in sharpness. ONE's image is blur. Loss most details. Image is "uneditable" - too low quality to be considered for edit.
2) When you STRETCH the image, ONE's image is extremely blur. HTC One camera is OK for NOW only. Not for the future.
Nowadays display is getting bigger and bigger each year. It is common to have 46-60 inches LED TV in my place nowaday. You will be sorry if you choose a 4MP (which is about 8MP and lower) camera now, when you have the choices (which is the trend this year 2013) to get a 13MP camera which already equip in most flagship 2013 phone. Your precious moments capture in a 4UP/4MP will be forever in this low quality. You have to consider the future. 2 years down the road, when you watch it on, perhaps 60 inches 4K UltraHD TV, it is very ugly. It is the trend, not only the TV, the laptop, tablet, monitor all will increase in size year after year. With 13MP, the picture still look decent in the near future but 4UP/4MP will be a joke. If HTC ONE comes with a 8UP camera, then it's a different story. I will jump in. But definitely not with a 4UP.
Take TV for instances, the trend now (just started) is 4K TV (UltraHD) 8 megapixel.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/4K_resolution
http://www.techradar.com/news/home-cinema/high-definition/ultra-hd-everything-you-need-to-know-about-4k-tv-1048954
HTC One 4MP camera's picture will be outdated very soon. 4K TV (UltraHD with 8MP) is the trend. Sony, LG, Samsung, Panasonic, Sharp already started to market them. It will be prevelent in less than 2 years.
I think 4UP/4MP is just HTC first product to test the water. It will be changed to 8UP/8MP very soon when HTC release the next flagship phone. I don't want to be the guinea pig when considering the future and my pictures.
2013 flagship model (The trend NOW):
LG Optimus G Pro - 13MP
Samsung Galaxy S4 - 13MP
Sony Xperia ZL - 13MP
Sony Xperia Z - 13MP
iPhone 5s - News said will be 13MP
Huawei Ascend P2 - 13MP
ZTE Quantum - 13MP
ZTE Nubia Z5 - 13MP
Nexus 5 - News said will be 13MP
and the list go on ..........
How often do you need to shoot low light image? Most of the time No. Is the ONE low light image as bright as with the light on? Of course not. Then why need to emphasize low light so much? hmmm..ur.. coz HTC said this is a selling point.
It is just a little tiny bit better in low light compare with other brand camera. Personally, I think it is overly stress.
HTC Ultrapixel is useless when it is only 4 because now is not the year 2008 when most mobile phones still using 4 to 5 MP.
Now is 2013, we need minimum 8 Ultrapixel and above.
HTC introduces Ultrapixel is good and innovative, but putting only 4UP/MP to the camera is a big mistake. Most of the cost to manufacture the one already gone to the casing. This is sad.

Alberto , 12 Apr 2013Hey guys what would you prefer s4 (quad core version) or HT... moreHTC One got nothing come close to S4, other than just the look. If you go into details and compare each component, HTC One fail in every aspect. Most HTC fan just shout but cannot proof it technically when comparing to other brand flagship models.
For instances, HTC promised 93dB sound output but tests showed only 82.7dB. So what so great about the boomsound? Not so boom after all. It's just one of HTC marketing gimmick. If quality of sound is important for you, then S4 for sure as it is using the better Wolfson DAC (digital-to-analog converter) compare to HTC crappy DAC. Without a good DAC, no matter how good your speaker or headphone are, it is useless. Just like computer term, garbage in garbage out. You need a good source to produce good sound.
There are many already mentions in the comments section here. Read through and you will know. By the way, don't take anandtech.com's bias review. The editor is a HTC fan and he already admitted himself in the article: "I'm a big fan of the HTC One and can see myself using it for quite a while, even without seeing necessarily everything of its main upcoming contenders". Yet many HTC fan still take his review and praise.
