AnonD-129490, 26 Mar 2013Alright this review should be updated after the software up... moreI do not see any help with the new software. There is a limit to what s/w can do since the h/w is merely a 4MP. Come on! How much can the software boost when the photo is just a 4MP? And the sensors are not taking in much details as HTC claims?

So much for the hyped UltraPixel from HTC. Is plain pathetic! 4MP?! What a joke indeed. HTC has once again failed with its flagship for year 2013. Samsung, Sony, LG, Nokia... All nailed HTC to the max....

Expectations meet reality once more. The HTC One is a great phone and you should absolutely go for it if you care about the looks, but the SIV does better in almost every department that matters in daily use. Better battery, camera and performance, lighter, more comfortable use, microSD slot, 4.2.2 out of box, more versatile features, and loads of extra sensors. When it comes short - audio quality, video recording - it's not by much. But when the HTC falls short - UltraPixels in mid-to-great conditions, standby drainage, phone-screen ratio - it's a bigger difference.

Going to see what the octacore version brings with what should be the Wolfson chip.Should have better noise level and dynamic range,,both are in the 90's on SGS3 with Wolfson chip.

I use "Pure Messenger widget", that combine everything from Facebook and twitter and gmail and email and sms and phonecalls into one unified place almost like Nokias "People hub", and I use "Pure News widget" for news from all over the world, and I use "Pure Calendar widget" as my calendar, all on one single page on my S3, and with "WidgetLocker" they can all together be on my lockscreen, so I have no need for "BlinkFeed"!

This nailed the coffin for the 4MP Ultrapixel marketing. Had it been 8MP it would have fared well against the competition. 4MP is just to low HTC. Not worth comparing to the Nokia 808 Pureview. Pureview oversampling to 4MP? That surely will overkill the HTC One's 4MP camera.

Don't know why people think high volume or bloated bass is the same as audio quality.
Seems Iphone4/s, 5 and Galaxy s3(int.version) measured better in audio test than these two. See dynamic range and noise. Low dynamic range will make music sound muffled.
Also why not test output impedance? Too high in s2's case ruined the music, especially in in ear headphones, that has usually have low impedance (Search nwavguy's blog for more information on the matter).
Anyway, "Supercurio", who made improvements on the first galaxy's audio output, has higher hopes for the galaxy with exynos, audio wise. I hope he is right!

Low-light camera performance: "Winner: Samsung Galaxy S4. Surprisingly, the Samsung Galaxy S4 has the better low-light camera performance.", that makes the overhyped "ultra pixels" a total pointless fail!

AnonD-129490, 26 Mar 2013Alright this review should be updated after the software up... moreif i remember correctly though this phone did very well against the iphone 5 and the lumia 920, even when pictures from the htc were up scaled to 8mp they hardly lost any detail against the iphone 5, only in low light it was easily beaten, so im not so sure if the camera is faulty on this unit, i have seen a few samples from the htc with dodgy iso settings and they really do look terrible, the pics on this comparison are not that bad, just not as refined as the s4,

High volume is not the same as good sound quality, but bad stereo crosstalk is what totally kills the sound quality because the sound lose too much of the stereo effects when sound supposed the be on only one side is played close to mono almost identical on both sides, making the sound feel "dead" and not "alive"! Too high volume can be a big problem when listening to music in quiet environment!

So as expected the s4 is the best phone on the market (for Now at least) for all round performance, but the HTC is a very good and close second, these are clearly the best to devices in the market this year, sony xperia z is good but still someway off these 2, iPhone will no doubt bring out the 5S but it will just be an incremental update so just some specs boost, so apple fans give that a miss and buy either of these 2.

Thank God for the comparison. I was getting tired of the HTC One crowd here, especially statements about its camera.
To be fair though, the SGS4 produced better sound output, just slightly less noisy. Video was basically the same, more detail on the SGS4, just narrower FOV but yeah, I understand you had to give points to the HTC One somewhere. HTC One is a stylish phone though, and it's still pretty good. Just nowhere as good overall as the GS4 though.
