Hi guys, whazzup! I just acquired the X6-2 one week ago… I previously had the X3-2 and have been following this site for sometime before actually buying the X6-2.
Anyway I hope that this is the most comprehensive review posted on this site by a user regarding the X6-2. I tried not to repeat the info already on this page. All the information below is true to the best of my knowledge, so here goes nothing…

I got this cell for 11.5K (Indian rupees, prices will vary of course!). Also included in the package was:
                                    1. battery charger
                                    2. stereo handsfree kit
                                    3. user manual
                                    4. CD containing Wellphone v2.2 and USB drivers v2.4.2
However there is no USB cable provided and I learned that you can order one from the SAGEM website. So I got myself a 256MB microSD card and a card reader.

                                    I. APPEARANCE
The X6-2 has a metallic silver body with two navy blue bands on the top and bottom. It is neither too big nor small (length slightly exceeds that of a credit card) and is also quite light. It has soft keys on different levels illuminated with a white backlight and four directional keys in the shape of a circle. The display is brilliant, on the lines of Samsung’s. The menu is simply exquisite and the phone’s UI is Explorer style with Rename, Copy, Move, etc all in place.

                                    II. MEMORY
The X6-2 has an onboard memory of 10MB expandable via microSD cards. Although maximum memory supported is reported as 256MB, the phone could be used with 512MB cards as well, although it gives problems for direct photo and video record on card. However, according to my experience, even with a 256MB card there is no option to record directly on card. This takes place in the phone memory only and one can then move the photo/video to the card through the phone’s interface. The option to record directly to card only applies to stuff downloaded through GPRS or acquired through Bluetooth/Infrared. However, SAGEM has launched an update to remedy this problem in the form of a 13MB patch at http://www.planetsagem.com/ but I have not yet tried it as I do not possess a data cable. If someone has, please contact me at karlf6688@rediffmail.com.

                                    III. CAMERA AND VIDEO
The X6-2’s 1.3MP camera delivers excellent results in good lighting conditions (much better than the photos displayed on the Pictures section of this site). Maximum supported resolution for photos is 1280x1024 (wrongly mentioned as 1280x960), which is very good. For daytime shooting, this phone comes very close to the K750i (benchmark camera-phone). You can also change the sensitivity of the CCD sensor (Normal, Sunny, Night, Cloudy, etc). There is also a Burst mode for shooting four pictures quickly. However, like most other phones, the camera disappoints for nighttime shooting also because the X6-2 does not have a flash (it is wrongly mentioned on the specs page).
The framerate of the X6-2 is excellent for video recording if you can keep your hand steady (already mentioned on this site). Maximum video length is about 4-5 minutes but with very high quality.

                                    IV. AUDIO PLAYER
With regards to audio, I’ve chosen the W550i as a benchmark because the term “high quality playback” is quite relative. But make no mistake, the audio player of the X6-2 is very clear and brilliant. Clarity is unmatched however, in the departments of bass and volume, the W550i overpowers the X6-2 (let’s face it, it’s a Walkman phone after all!). Also one cannot do anything else while listening to music (DAP cannot be minimized) and the backlight does not turn off completely during playback. The supplied earbuds are a wee bit uncomfortable. Thus, in a nutshell, the X6-2 is very good for playing audio, but not on the level of the W550i.

                                    V. CONNECTIVITY
I did not give IR much importance because it is rarely used if Bluetooth is also available. There’s been some fuss made here about whether SAGEM’s Bluetooth works with other major brands. I carried out a few transfers among my friends and I can testify that the X6-2 is compatible with most phones, the most significant ones being:
                                    NOKIA 3230, NGAGE QD
                                    SONY-ERICSSON K750i, W550i
                                    MOTOROLA L7, E398

                                    VI. CONTENT
The phone supports Java MIDP 2. There is a lot of content on the Internet for the X6-2. First of all, go to http://www.planetsagem.com/ for trusted content for the X6-2. These are in the form of .jar documents, and as reiterated amply on this site, they must be placed on the memory card via card reader. They can then be installed and configured from the phone. Apart from that site, there are about 500+ applications and games for the X6-2 at http://www.getjar.com/. These are installed as mentioned above. I would recommend an app called Moby Explorer v2.1. It is a file explorer kind of thing with a lot of options to encrypt, zip and hide files. There are also other sites that can be searched by Google, but these are the most significant.

                                    VII. MISCELLANEOUS
Apart from the above highlights, a few other observations:
There is an organizer and a To-Do option with alarm. Battery life is about 3 days with adequate use of DAP and video recording. I had formatted the battery for 12, 10 and 8h for the first three uses. The main causes that shorten life is use of DAP and frequent video recording. Battery life can be maximized by turning off the screen when not required and also the backlight. Both these can be enabled in the Settings > Display > Energy Saving option in the menu.

                                    CONCLUSION
This fact has been repeated a zillion times on this site, but has to be mentioned one more time for the sake of completeness of this article – at this price, no other handset beats the X6-2’s combination of features and design. I can assure all-o-you who are deciding which handset to go for, that the X6-2 packs a potent punch with its nifty features at its price and should be seriously considered.

Thanx guys for taking time to read this article, I enjoyed writing it as much as I enjoy using my newly acquired X6-2. Your suggestions, comments, criticism and corrections are most welcome at karlf6688@rediffmail.com. Thanx once again…
