I don't care about updates and upgrades in any phone model. My Samsung A9 pro 2016 and Note 4 SM-N910G are obsolete. But still they are working and the audio clarity rocks in them when used with Sony MDR-XB55AP, MDR-70AP, MDR-75AP wired earphones. Same applies for S20 FE 5G and A52s 5G. I use 'kinsound type C to 3.5 mm converter with charging port' for Indian Rupees approx 1700. No loss in the sound clarity.

Heck even the phones being sold via the networks are also unlocked following a ruling by OFCOM years ago.
I do not use a PC in updating my phones.
Amongst the three i'm now leaning towards the A52s 5G based on my research of current OS & One UI versions and updates, chipset and overall size dimensions. And the updates it has received.
One point i was leaning towards the Galaxy S23 but because of a smaller battery capacity and so-so battery life i've removed it from list.
    What do you think?

Gino76ph, 29 Apr 2024Definitely the newest A35 and A55 are out of the question b... moreI bought S20BFE 5G as new on Oct 2021. Then another piece as renewed from amazon India website on Dec 2022. It is the last S series phone to have memory card slot and OIS for 2 rear cameras. A52s 5G is the last A series phone to have SD chip and 3.5 mm audio jack.

One S20 FE 5G is running with android 12 Nov 2022 patch with the CP and home CSC files manually patched from the android 13 Feb 2023 update to make jio 5G 3500 MHz (n78) to work. n28 is not working.
Another S20 FE 5G is running android 13 with the latest patch. A52s 5G is running android 14 with latest patch (unable to disable the recycle bin option in the my files and the gallery apps).

The only question is whether S20 FE 5G will get update to support jio VoNR or not.

I don't care about the OS updates because I am having PC which automatically updates by itself.

        1. Older (albeit effective) chipset
        2. Will not get Android 14 & One UI 6.0/6.1
        3. Updates to Samsung Store and first-party apps may soon stop or slow down
My concerns about the Galaxy A52s 5G:
        1. Older (and somewhat so-so) chipset
        2. Stories of buggy cameras after Android 14/One UI 6.0 update
        3. Updates to Samsung Store and first-party apps may slow down (but not sooner)
My other choice is the Galaxy S21 FE 5G but:
        1. Older (and somewhat so-so) chipset with throttling/overheating issues leading to poor battery life
        2. So-So cameras system but better than the other two
        3. A bit confident Samsung Store and first-party apps will continue to get updates and will not slow down soon
I'm having second thoughts on the base Galaxy S23 because of it's high price (£699) and small battery capacity albeit excellent chipset.
Please tell me I am right or wrong on these phones. And which one would you recommend and why?
Love to hear your thoughts. Cheers.

                  S23
                  S20 FE 5G
                  A52s 5G
                  RN 13
This pick quite depends on further subjective preferences. S23 is the best and up to date phone here, however not cheap and you need to be a mini-phone fan.
S20FE & A52s are about same size while you may consider S20FE camera similar to your current phone. Then you're able to estimate which of them is up to your demands (check S23FE & A52s for that purpose). However you're stuck with Android 13 or 14 company UI respectively. Both are totally okay today, how long are you willing to use such phone depends on you, though. Shorter period may be considered. Either way, both phones mustn't be too pricy to be worth in 2024.
                  That's about it :)

Samsung A54 and A55 are the best models using the exynos chip.

Hope the A56 (imaginary) will be made of SD chip and 512 GB im and 12 GB RAM.

I thought of the S20 FE 5G because I have a spare case for it (without the need for buying a new one) and a Galaxy A52s 5G because my partner has it. But after reading and watching some reviews i'm leaning towards the S20 FE. Both phones you can get for a really cheap price right now.
Saying that my other choice would be the base S23 from last year. Excellent Snapdragon shipset, very comfy in the hands and a bit cheaper price as well. Another choice is also last year's Xiaomi 13. But, updates may have stopped or slowed down by now as per usual company's lazy update policy.

They aren't really sensible upgrade from S23FE. + 0.1" screen bump doesn't justify final Android 13/14 with the rest of specs at comparable or worse level. Nevertheless if you still have your reasons, S20FE is camera-wise and overall bit better than A52s which today still does handle all common tasks and misses only adaptive RR (imho), however you'll get better camera on FE if you're after that.

Because Samsung has decided to increase the sizes of their devices in the past 12-24 months I am thinking of replacing my S23 FE with either a Galaxy A52s 5G or an older S20 FE 5G.
Which one is much worth for what you are getting with specs, decent performance with basic tasks (not benchmarks) and decent cameras that shows true to life colours and above average HDR, sharpness, low light capability?
                          Any comments or thoughts please?

I have bought refurbished S20 FE 5G on Dec 2023 from amazon India. The phone and the accessories inside the box appeared like new. I took that phone to the Samsung service center and gave the IMEI just to ask whether it was original or not. Thry said it is original and was activated on November 2022. I was happy.

Just check for physical damage and overheating issue after buying the phone. Take it to the Samsung authorized service center in your area and tell its IMEI and tell them to check whether it is original or not (if the center is free - no rush). Use your refurbished phone A52s 5G within the return period (7 days in case of amazon India) and see.

                                    Thats all.
