From all the reviews I've read it seems this is literally the same screen as the Note 4 with no improvements at all, and if true that's the first time they've done that on any Galaxy phone.

Thanks Samsung but no thanks.... I'll stick with my Note 4, bigger removable battery, SD card, grippier back and better drop resistance.... I'm sure others will prefer GN5 benchmarks, better looks and a marginally better camera though.

I have a Note 4, if decide to change to a different phone it won't be a Note 5 due its lack of SD card slot and changeable battery.
In my opinion, a backward step and to rub salt in the wound, Samsung have neglected Note 4 users with updates and security patches.

we have said it all will the Korean giant listen ?? No just move on get the note 4 or wait for the nexus

OUTRAGUS!!! The info regarding the 128 GB memory size of the Note 5 is fub a mistake its not happening there will only be a 32 and 64 GB versions CNET wrote. And to top it all the Note 5 is not being launched in the UK. They have decided to launch the S6 edge + instead, bigger version of the S6 edge. Samsung your starting to disappoint not only me but others too.

AnonD-389805, 18 Aug 2015Apple has the advertising and promotion to convince people ... moreI tested both. Android is VERY smooth I love it.. however it does not have the longevety that Apple iOS or Blackberry OS has. Basically Android tends to age very badly. That being said I bought a Samsung GS6 HTC One M9 and LG G4 so I will test them see how long they last. These phones are a month old and so far so good.

Anonymous, 18 Aug 2015Sound like Apple. How ironic~ :pNot ironic at all. I am referring to ALL phone companies. Apple and Samsung namely. HTC, Blackberry, and LG seem to really try to put the BEST they can do

Love the resistance WE are showing NOT buying into these phones. They purposely place these not good enough specs and purposly hold off on the good specs in hopes that they call it "an upgrade". That being said these phone companies are smart and unleash upgrades that eventually force us to upgrade.. But the battle and resistance lives on

Anonymous, 18 Aug 2015I really have to ask. Does anyone really use the IR blaster... moreIt's not only for tv remote control. Air conditioners, projectors, etc. Very practical and you don't need to go to the custodians of the remote controls.

Yes I am a Note user ever since the launch of the Note 3. I am not happy that they have decided to go down the Apple path. It says in the specs that there is a 32, 64 and 128 version of the handset. Unlike Apple Samsung do not launch all their versions at the same time, if at all. There was said to be a 64 version of the N4 but it never materialised. So would shops stock the 64 and 128gb versions of this handset. I remember the first Galaxy S in 8 and 16 GB the 8 GB version was stocked every were but 16 GB versions were very limited. Even though it has been listed in the spec there will be a 64 and 128 GB version I don't think we will see shops stocking them. I like the fact that I could expand the memory and carry a spare battery around, as the new Lollipop OS is awful to say the least.

I agree that one day sealed handsets will be the norm but not until the issue with batteries is finally resolved. Dare I say it although Samsung did this on the S6 and I heard a lot of people saying we are moving to Apple now. Why did they wait so long was my opinion. I tried the 4S could not get on with Apple as a one. So I chose Samsung over Apple it was tough as i had always been loyal to Nokia until Microsoft stepped in. So unless the other variants become available I'm sticking with my Note4.

I really have to ask. Does anyone really use the IR blaster? I know there a few but in term of percentage, does that even count half of the whole Note user community? I just don't get that one feature people missed. People rarely watch tv anymore anyway. Maybe that coming from me as a younger generation but i don't know. Your choices. Most of us are multimedia consumers who watch everything online. No one have the superior urge to watch tv instead of using their smartphone. Our tv just gathering dust.

TheNeighbor, 18 Aug 2015Yes, I agree with you. Some strange experiment to testing t... moreSamsung wishes to beat Apple in the smartphone arena and their market research shows that apple is on top because they do not want to give their customers what they want (expandable memory, removable battery, open software systems, connectivity to devices outside their ecosystems). Apple dictates what the consumer needs i.e security and aesthetics. Premium price tag means a premium looking (shiny) gadget. People with more money than sense purchase their products and if celebrities wave them about on the media, then marketing is taking care of itself. Apple realised that people are sheep and have made their money because of this. Samsung wants to follow suit, I don't blame them, they are not a western company but know the big money is in the west and in the west people seem to prefer products that look like apple products. Apple had to figure this out, Samsung just has to act on it.
A Note 5 with removable battery and expandable memory gives the device 5+ years of life expectancy. The processor is rapid, 4GB RAM will definitely be relevant 3 to 5 years from now, you might even see a 1TB micro SD??? A product like this would effect the tablet market even the PC/laptop market. How would that work as a business model?
Please realise that SAMSUNG is not your friend named SAMMY, it couldn't care less about what you want. It wants your money and if you are not forking it over some other consumer will.
My advice is buy a Chinese Phone from the GRAY market, the one that runs a fake android and fake IOS and somehow also loads windows 10. Has an IR blaster. 400 MP camera. Is waterproof. Under 6mm thick. Has A Shatterproof diamond screen. Connects to any digital device and gives you a blowjob when you need one....dream on!

Anonymous, 18 Aug 2015"Neglecting" the absent of sd slot and removable ... moreYes, I agree with you. Some strange experiment to testing the market. As I said in previous posts, I think they can't come up with anything to top the features of the Note 4, and they'll be just be criticized with the same removable back and no integrated wireless charging. So, they listened to the iPhone (shiny gold, internal memory options, fingerprint scanner), Sony (glass back), HTC (metal) and strangely BlackBerry (ridiculous physical QWERTY keyboard) fans.

I could understand them doing this with the S6, but not the Note series, even alienating EU customers by NOT launching it there. And here it is - a very confused Note that has been striped off the souls of the previous Galaxy Notes.

Crazy? You bet. They have purposely did all the changes and trimmed features to attract (?) attention of fans of Samsung's competitors. Even implementing nano SIM for iPhone uers. And look at the timing - to yank potential iPhone 6S buyers - typical iPhone users who "don't-know-better-don't-care". All they know looks better than the iPhone, has no plastic back (screams premium to them), no removable battery (they need to use their powerbanks), no infrared (yes, there's a remote controlled that came with the TV), no memory expansion (it will confuse them navigating files).

OMG. I bet they have a secret version that has everything we want in 6 months.

I true Note series user won't bother if the back still remain with plastic. The Note series device still sell like hot cake even-though it is made of plastic. Most other phone in Android camp still made of plastic as well, despite being bash and criticize, actually is not a big issue either, phone just work fine despite being made of plastic.
Samsung is just too follow with the review that bashing them.
Look at what iPhone has been offering? They don't even consider to go with removable battery and Micro SD slot, despite the critic and bashing.
No matter what is being made, there sure going to be critics. But please don't follow Apple way to limit user freedom, and respect the reason why people choose Samsung Galaxy Note over iPhone.

They can put microsd slot in an even thinner A8 and not in their thicker new flagship? Okay, maybe the Note5 Spen taking the space can be an excuses but S6 edge+ have no excuses to not put microsd. Though, actually the spen doesn't seem to take that much of a space considering they still able to make a dual sim version with two slot for the sims in one tray.
