Bad battery life.... regret buying....its there any other ways to improve the battery life ?

I am *incredibly* disappointed with my Note 9 purchase!

30 FPS recording isn't 30 FPS but variable. Not even 60 FPS is constant/fixed but variable. Frame-rate control in general is extremely limited. Super slow-mo and many other frame rates and resolutions are not exposed outside of the Samsung Camera to third-party cameras. One can’t even record 1080P @ 240FPS, and, if one can, then the frame rate is most likely not constant/fixed but variable. Installing a professional third-party camera app doesn’t resolve the frame-rate issues.

Samsung is doing something really dodgy here. I think they are trying to convince people their camera is far superior than the competition, namely Apple’s technology, by controlling the frame rates according to lighting conditions. In fact, I had Samsung support confirm that they are indeed adjusting frame-rates according to lighting conditions. Compare this with the likes of the competition, namely Apple, who keep their frame rates fixed across all resolutions. In fact, professional content creation software, such as Adobe Premiere Pro, require fixed constant frame-rate media or else the video and audio get out of sync as soon as the frame-rate changes, which it does. As such the Note 9’s camera is unfit for use for professional content creators including YouTubers.

Most reviews out there that compare the Note 9 vs Apple’s offerings in terms of video are basically not comparing apples with apples (pun intended) because they fail to notice that the frame rates are not as advertised. In fact, most phone sites that people use to compare phones do not list if frame rates are constant/fixed or variable. Not including this information invalidates comparisons of phone cameras.

I cannot believe anyone has pointed this out or had Samsung up about them selling phones that don’t actually perform as per their specs. It is false and misleading advertising by Samsung. Samsung should simply not be allowed to keep this up. People should get what they are being told they are being sold. So, if the spec sheet says 30 FPS, etc., that is exactly what people should be getting, and not 29.3 FPS one second and 27.8 FPS the next. My 60 FPS recordings on my new Note 9, for example, even came out over 60 FPS at 60.1 and 60.2 FPS. The recordings are completely useless. And, no, I should not have to transcode the video and lose quality even have to waste resources doing so, it should just record at constant/fixed from the start.

Note that this issue is *not* new as my Note 4 has the same issue. In fact, I suspect all Samsung devices have this issue. Meanwhile some Android devices do, as I understand, allow constant/fixed frame-rate recording. However, at the end of the day, a flagship product should by definition support constant/fixed recording to be consider flagship. Just look at Apple. In fact, even the most basic iPhone records at constant frame rates at all of its resolutions.

To make matters worse, the camera actually limits recordings to 10 minutes! What good is 256GB if that’s what they are going to do? My Note 4 had no such silly limitations. Why should a present modern phone impose such limitations suddenly when my old Note 4 was happy to record as long a video as it physically could???

The other thing I have found is that I cannot enable video stabilisation on the frame rates that are said to allow it. Yet another issue. Meanwhile Samsung support is telling me to wipe the camera’s cache and do this and that including resetting my phone to factory default. Yet my phone is only a few days old and I just today started using the camera app! And no way am I going to rebuild my newly configured phone. This is not support, this is a charade.

Oh, and then the still camera doesn’t support RAW capture or saving to basic lossless formats such as PNG, never mind DNG, etc.

To make matters worse, Samsung is doing something further dodgy by overriding/blocking the gallery intent so that third-party gallery apps cannot be invoked from non Samsung apps but are instead forced to use Samsung’s garbage gallery app. The Note 9 is supposed to be an Android phone, and such the user is supposed to be in control, and that means that, if they wish to use a third-part gallery app, including the likes of Google Photos, then they should be able to use it in place of what Samsung tries to force on them. Now, don’t get me wrong, I dislike Google Photos more than I dislike Samsung’s Gallery app, yet I wish to use Simple Gallery (the best gallery app there is, and it’s open source) and be able to invoke it from any app and not be forced to use Samsung’s app.

Oh, and another thing, what happened to being able to put the step counter on the lock screen like I could on my Note 4? Did Samsung remove this feature to try to sell users a smartwatch of theirs? Wouldn’t surprise me. I am getting extremely sceptical about Samsung. In fact, I may return my Note 4 and never ever by another Samsung product ever again, that’s how unhappy I am with my Note 9.

Oh, and the wireless charger I was “given’ as part of my Note 9 purchase, it is garbage, too. It works, alright, but I live in a very quiet neighbourhood, and, as such, the fan in it keeps me awake at night. Not only that, it only uses Quick Charge 2 technology. It goes without saying that I am no longer using it.

PARAG, 28 Aug 2018Its seems u r the most bu+hurt amongst all the note9 haters... moreRead my posts properly. I do not hate the Note9. I highly recommend it to anyone, and in fact financed my wife in having one. So bug off.

                        Hello'
                        I need your advice please.
Right now I am using Lenovo Phab pro 2 with AT&T service. This phone has a terrible receiption. Alot of time i have call drops. At a certain location, my friend can call out easilly wihout a single drop. My friend uses samsung galaxy note 4 with at&t service. In the other hand, I coundn't get a single call event if i was at the same loction as him. I have tried at some other locations and compare with my friend that uses the samsung note 3. I found out that the lenovo definitely having reception problem. Does anyone know what is the best reception phone? If possible, I want a best reception phone and very loud speaker when turn on the speaker mode. You advice is so much appreciated.

Greedy Sammy. Rather go with the oneplus 6, A $1000 phone shouldn't easily break and get screen burn in.

Dan, 28 Aug 2018Fellow Note 8 owner here, I totally agree with your assessment.Note9 is a great incremental improvement.

Basisically, Samsung updated the Note8 in terms of hardware - processor, doubled the base memory, very slight improvement to the camera, integrated BT to the S Pen, 700 mAh more battery... And that's mostly it.

A Galaxy Note8 s. They could have done all this with the Note8 last year. Samsung could have integrated an on-screen fingerprint scanner with the Note9 - news is that's for next year.

My wife hardly used her 32 GB S7 Edge's internal memory and 32 GB microSD card, and she'll have 100 GB free internal storage until she gets a new phone. She is even suggesting that I'd use the Note9 instead. Haha. I'm letting her feel the newness of the Note9.
