A full HD on this device would be pointless? I beg to differ but not arguing here. You see I buy this mainly for movies and browsing. The Spen is good but I rarely use it. Because this is the latest and also its Sammy with 8" screen I am tempted to buy one as my secondary tab. I have the Google Nexus 7. I am also eyeing the GNexus 10 but is not easily available in my country. Full HD on a tablet is not overkill but lets not 'argue' here.
Somehow I very much agree with you about front facing speakers. This is of great use when watching movies.

Derhunter23, 27 Apr 2013Please let me know about the WiFi signal strength/weak/stro... moreIt's an amazing tablet! The most fully featured one in the market at the moment. This is worth the money spent on productivity features, especially with the Wacom active S Pen for drawing, data input, navigation, swype keyboard input and so many things more! The S Pen now can opiate the menu and back capacitive keys at the bottom.

For drawing enthusiasts, this is a wonderful tool! Integrate it with apps like Sketchbook Pro and Adobe Touch and this baby is your portable Cintique tablet! The hardware is the most powerful in the tablet market. It can operate 3D games easily.

I don't complain about its plastic surface. It has a solid feel. It's thin but not wobbly at all. The side bezel or frame looks thick in the pictures, but it isn't in actual and you need that to hold the device with your thumb and fingers gripping the back. It's a logical design. A metal design would have made this heavier. The 338g weight is light enough for me to carry with one hand for those long readings or sketching.

Forget the sub tablets compared to the Note 8, if you want more than games and surfing. A 1080p full HD screen is an overkill. I find the the 189 ppi resolution of the Note 8 as superb as anything that has 200+ppi. I honestly DO NOT see the pixels. A full HD on this device would be pointless, take up more power and thereby resulting in a heavier weight from a bigger battery to keep up with a productive usage time.

The 3G and wifi signal receiving of this device is excellent. There seems to be a weak bluetooth connection to my stereo earpieces. Bluetooth signal stutters sometimes if my hand is in the way of a direct path between the 2 points. There's no NFC but the wifi-direct file sharing is super fast in transfering large files like videos to watch with the 8" screen. Sound volume is decent enough, although I wished the speakers were front facing. Apple has no plans to make direct file transfers a normal feature for their devices which is utterly stupid. What worse is Apple will not entertain the possibility of a memory expansion slot to store your music or files. Apple will die with these restrictions.

I could actually get about 9+ hours of continuous actual screen on usage while surfing with power saving mode, brightness at auto, and on wifi only. This is based on the average percentage rate I've been observing, falling at some 10% per hour with those settings. This is even better than my Note II's screen on usage of 7.5 to 8 hours of screen on usage time. An average of 80% of the power from the battery is used to power the screen. This was an unexpected result comparing to 30 to 40% of my Note II's AMOLED screen's power consumption.

So, $70 more than the iPad mini for the Note 8 is a bargain.

There is an update worth 23mb for the N5100. Anyone know what was improved?

bryantpark, 24 Apr 2013Anybody know if it's possible to save S Notes to your extSD... moreI've tried the directory bind on my rooted Note II, whereby I redirected the S Note data to the micro SD. It doesn't work. It works with redirecting large data for games and other apps like Sketchbook, Adobe Touch though. Unfortunately it only works on a rooted device as I remember from the instructions.

One thing I noticed when using S Note on the 8 is that it synchronize with whatever cloud service of everything I've created on my Note II! This is useful as I do some of my ideas generating with the app.

Try reading up on directory binding at XDA Developers forums. Just search for it. Note 8 is still new and no one has developed an easy root method via Odin. A bit busy lately and will still research other methods of rooting this for its full potential.

I'm for Super AMOLED screens, but if they used it on the 8, it'd probably drive up the cost further. Yes, premium devices will be double HD after a year's time. I've seen full HD screened devices. I really can't tell the difference against a 720p.

I work with a full HD 20" screen for graphics, and I can't see the pixels. Yes, everything is geared towards HD resolutioned screens soon, but it's unneccessary. It's more psychological than practical satisfaction.

The way I see it is that everything's geared towards full HD. Don't get me wrong, I love Samsung phones and tablets, but c'mon 8 inches is vast and I would love to watch full HD movies without scaling of any sort.
