What's more, the pentile RGBG layout is less dense than RGB so it's actually closer to 720p [(540p + 1080P + 540p) / 3 = 720p]

Anonymous, 28 Aug 2021nah, S21 variable refresh rate display saves so much batter... moreYou can choose 1440p 60hz for great display quality or 1080p for high refresh rate. Who would ever than to use low resolution 1080p on 60hz on a phone on that budget ? S-series were not made for long battery life, they were made for people who whant features. It is like buying a RTX 3080 or 3090 and use it for 1080p low resolution gaming. Or buying a ferrari and use it like a Dacia.

Some time you thant to play a game or just operate fast in menu , that is the 120hz for.
But some times you whant to watch a video at best quality. And you can choose 1440p.
S21 is the first s-series that has lesser features compare to the previos series S20 and was made in 2021.
And in 2021 just recent is the first Samsung lost nr 1 position in smartphone sales in years.
It is there a coincidence or has to do with facts that some people don t whant to buy feature less products just because they are the new thing.

GloooP, 27 Aug 2021Hopefully Samsung will have learned from its mistakes, and ... moreI'm glad I did not get the S20 and got the S21. The S21 is easily better. As far as phone sales. Many people have realized they don't need to or don't want to pay the high price of the upper end phones with an upper end SoC. When a mid range phone with a midrange SoC gives them everything they need.

Although it sounds like the S22 will be going backwards with screen sizes. I was planning on going to a one year upgrade cycle with the Galaxy S phones. Instead of the two year upgrade cycle I have been on since the S6. But I have no desire to go from a 6.2 inch screen to a 6.06 inch screen. And have no desire to get a 6.5 inch or larger screen either. I was hoping the S22 would have had a 6.2 or 6.3 inch screen.

And memory card? I have no desire for one any more. Since the external storage will be so much slower than the internal storage. It's more convenient just to get more built in storage. Especially since it's also much faster.

SweeetY, 15 Jul 2021Tired of the flat and 1080x2400p low resolution screen of m... moreIt sounds like the S22 screens will be smaller with the same resolution. I have no problem with my S21 unlocked, 256GB, resolution. Plus it only cost me $300 after my S10 trade in. I was planning on getting the S22. But if the rumor about smaller screens is true, then I will need to hold on to my S21. Since I have no desire to go from a 6.2 inch screen to a 6.06 inch screen.

Plus the flat screen of my S21 is way better than the curved screen my S10 had. I hated when I upgraded from my S6 to the S8, because of the curved screen. So I was happy when they went back to the flat screen with the S21. Plus the S21 has 1300 nits peak brightness. Which is superb.

Or S22 sales number will be even lower than those from S21 which, according to Samsung itself, is catastrophic... Having changed my S20 for an S21 was a big mistake.

I just advice people not to buy s21 or s21 plus , instead of S20 or S20 plus , unless it is a supper offer at the price of the s20 FE .

Anonymous, 25 Aug 2021Dude i don t care about all your data. I had S21 and S20 i... moreOk you're definitely desperate now. "I don't care about all of your data" is something you only say when you know you're about to lose the argument. The vast majority of the time, your phone is a foot away from your eyes, and at that distance it becomes hard to tell the difference unless you're specifically looking for it. The S21 still has flagship display quality, with colors, brightness, and features. I also very clearly said that 1080p is the sweet spot for phones, and bigger screens should start to go higher. Once you're up above 10" or so, the pixels at 1080p become noticeably bigger, and then you can start going to higher resolutions. I do care about quality, obviously. But some people don't need 4K even on a TV, which is why 1080p TVs still exist. They're good enough for some people, and the company usually still makes 4K TVs for customers who want it it. Most people DO buy the cheapest thing that gets the job done for them. And even then, the S21 is still a very good phone. It's got a unique design, great display, very good battery life, a flagship chipset, good cameras, and a decently compact size (and if you want a bigger screen then the S21+ exists, which is basically the same phone, and even at 6.7" 1080 is still very good). Sure, 1080p is not "premium," but that's a really dumb argument as a) it's still good enough at this size, and b) it comes with other drawbacks. Which would you take, a slightly higher resolution that's difficult to notice most of the time, or better battery life, higher FPS, and less GPU throttling? This post is the equivalent of "I don't care what you say I'm still right".

Don t get me wrong S21 it is not awfull phone , it is really fast , but the display quality it feels cheap for that budget. In my country S21 cost 800$ without 5g the same as S20 5G and S20 without 5g cost 700$. If the price was the same as S20 FE i did not have any complain .If you use the phone at 1m distance you can t tell the difference , but most times you use it very close to your face. And 1080p is still 1080p and it is non premium . S21 Ultra is the only S21 true flagship , the problem with that is his gigantic size.
S21 specs should have S21 FE with smaller price not S21.
You have any ideea how much cost to produce a display for S20 and ho much it cost for S21?
This is what happens when at first you give you customer the best quality and after some years you decide why don t downgrade quality and charge the same price , they wouldn t notice.
If 1080p is that good for you ? Will you ever buy a 1080 monitor or TV in 2021 ? Or only if you whant the cheapest thing out there and you don t care about quality.

10/10 I'd go for brighter, faster, vibrant 1080p display in 6,2 inch compared to sluggish 60hz 1440p. You dont even need that much pixel in this size lol.

Anonymous, 24 Aug 2021I work with people that repair phones for a living . And th... moreI admit I misunderstood what you said about price, but the rest of your logic is still horrible. 6.2" is a lot bigger than 5.1", yes, but at that size 1080p pixels are still microscopic. No, the S21 does not have a mid-range display, and if you think that you clearly don't how displays work. High brightness, HDR10+, 120Hz, and variable refresh rate matter a lot more than a slight increase in resolution, and no other mid-range display has all of those in one. 1080p is still very sharp, and there are few instances where 1440p comes close to being important. Just because you can tell the difference between 1080p and 1440p, that doesn't mean 1440p is necessary on phones. These aren't monitors, the difference is easy to get used to. The displays are not in other leagues, the display on the S21 is still very good and very comparable to the S20. You're trading a slightly higher resolution for higher brightness and variable refresh rate, and the colors are close too. You also use the logic of "they used 1440p on a 5.1" display." 5.1" 1440p was overkill, rather than 6.2" 1080p being weak. If 1440p makes a big difference in everyday use to you, that's fine, and I won't complain if they bring it back on the S22 series, but if you think the S21 has a mid-range display just because of 1080p, you clearly don't know what you are talking about.

Also the S21 has a flat screen, which has benefits and drawbacks compared to curved screens, but by nature they are cheaper than curved screens like the one on the S20. The drop in display cost probably has more to do with it being flat and less with the resolution.

JdRDMS, 21 Aug 2021My eyes work just fine, and if 1440p made a real difference... moreI work with people that repair phones for a living . And they have S20 and S21 in repair service , both for display change . And the display for S20 is a lot more expensive than the display from S21. S21 display is a mid-range display.
And i did not say that S21 5g is more expensive than S20 4g. I said That S21 4g has the same price as S20 5G (with 12gb ram) , S21 5g is far more expensive than that.
So i see the S21 and S20 both in my hands and what i don t like that both are kinda big for me.
But in terms of display , they are clearly in others leagues . 6.2 inch is a very big screen , they used 1440p screen on 5.1 inch in the past. And now they downgrade the display quality to mentain money , but if people are smart enough to still buy it , they can go like that forever .

And they transferred my existing phone number. The subscription is 10Euro month over my present 60GB/Month dataplan but who cares.
