UHS class 1 is only for large-size HD video... moreActually you were quite wrong there. See, there's the UHS version and there's class version within that.
So the UHS version we're talking about is UHS I which are the high standard class 10 cards delivering speeds upto 70 MB/s. Among that, there are classes. So there are 3 types of UHS I cards. Namely UHS I class 1, UHS I class 2 and UHS I class 3. So I was correct.
Now there was nothing wrong with my comment as I simply used uhs I. About that yes, you need the uhs i class 3 card. That's just for safety though. A 4k video has a bitrate of 47-48 mbps that's around 6MB/s. So the recommended is uhs I class 3 but class 2 or even 1 may be used( that can cause heating of course).
The recent standard is uhs II which will be coming to micro sd in coming months and it carries upto 280 MB/s read speed in uhs II class 3.

I've got no problems with my s4 and it works great. And my UHS I card supports 70 MB/S speeds.
The greater than 10 MB/s is for class 10 cards and uhs I cards are those with much larger speeds. Please research before you post BS here. Uhs I are high quality class 10 cards. Till now there is only one uhs II card and that too is just announced, not released.

Had an iPhone for 5 years, never broke a phone/screen through all its drops. Went out on a limb and finally got a S5, had it a week and the screen has cracked. Haven't even dropped it. Had it in my back pocket and have sat in car with it there. Gorilla glass my ass. VERY disappointed and regretting my decision.

For recording 4K videos use UHS class 3
(UHS Speed Class 3 denotes 30 MB/s minimum write speed)
No wonder you got problems with your S4.
You are not that smart enough so don't mislead users.

Anybody with the Galaxy S5 an want to uninstall an stop applications running,instead of searching through the settings to find the Application Manager,you can download Task Manager from Play Store,an add the Application on to the Launcher you are using,its alot Quicker than going through the settings all the Time to do this,hope this helps you out

If your SD car... moreI know about high speed cards and I use a 64 gb Samsung UHS I card on my s4. The problem is not just copying in sd card, but also before that the processing and capture of 30 8mp photos per second. That's 240 megapixels per second. It sure takes up toll on processor. And then it moves to NAND and then to storage.
If your storage or sd card is slow it will cause further trouble and further heating. That's why Samsung put a cap or limit.
For a slight proof of what I said. Xperia z2 gets heated up even when storing in internal memory. So there are further issues other than the sd card.
In any case, don't use any card less than uhs I class or the ultra class so that even there is no trouble from storage side.

I saw it in an Internet video and the free memory there was 9.99 GB. I also heard 9.99 gb elsewhere. So I think the unit I saw was a carrier version which had a carrier bloat.

In other news done a full reset of phone and its all working now so what happened I don't know..So back using 64gig card and seems ok..So original problem of it took photos but not record 4K video seems resolved, shame its limited to 5 mins but as tech progresses it will get better...

Use SD card which is compatible... moreBoth mine are top Sandisk class 10 cards,,the 64GIG is XC-1 Ultra version.

If your SD card is slow, the phone is having a hard time, that is why it heats up. Use ultra high speed SD card for better pictures and videos.
