there is a feature called extra dim in one UI 4.1.1 which will dim the brightness little more, so, you will have great time reading.
I do watched movies in tab s8, it's awesome but yes you are right it doesn't have HDR 10.
S7/s7+ have HDR 10 because they both were flagships and samsung treated them with utmost priority but this time in 2022, samsung's utmost priority is tab s8 ultra, so, they removed HDR 10 from tab s8.
In my honest opinion tab s8 is great all rounder, I do watched movies in it and it's good but if you have s7 + next to tab s8 then you will lock tab s8 and start watching videos in s7+ because amoled will lure you in with punchy colors and deep blacks
Conclusion:-
I really want to help you here.
Tab s8 pros :-
1. 11 inch screen with very good brightness and also very good dim and also extra dim.
2. Great to read, great for students, good for movies.
3.Great all rounder which never disappoints you, ever.
Cons :-
1. When turn on blue light filter then screen gets yellowish and it's a deal breaker for some. people but as you turn on extra dim feature, you will have better experience without blue filter.
S7+
I do have s7+
1. Excellent for movies, No 1.
2. More real estate but just 1.4 inch more than tab s8, not a big deal.
3. Deep blacks makes watching movies immersive.
4. Great built quality and weight distribution.
Cons :-
1. It is for those who wants to own more tablets.
2. It's a luxury item.
3. Os update till 2023 august and security update till 2024 august, where as tab s8 get os update till 2026 March and security update till 2027 March which is a big deal.
4. Can't hold for long time.
5. 6 gb ram is OK for a student but not OK with android 13vand upcoming.
6. Burn in keeps you in stress always because even flagships got burn ins.
7.you will be tired of it if you are a power user.

Have you watched movies on it? Is the quality of the screen decent for it? Sure, it's for studying, but I'd also like to enjoy movies...
I'd love it if it had at least HDR10 support or something like that... But it looks like it doesn't have... it's strange because the vanilla S7 does have HDR10+ support...
Welp, I guess, I can't ask for too much...
What I want to know is, does it have a good minimum brightness?
In reviews they say it has 5 nits as minimum brightness, while the S7+ has about 1.3 nits.
I honestly don't know how much would be a good minimum brightness for reading in the dark and I would like to know if this one has a good minimum brightness for it?
To be honest, I think AMOLED is better for reading at night because the black is not backlit... and about burn-in, I think it wouldn't happen if I invert the colors... that is, black background and white letters...
For me it's really a complicated thing to choose... I would like a good screen for reading at night and I don't know if the S8 is good enough....
The problem of S7+ is what you say, plus it has 6 GB RAM and I don't know if it's enough....

You did a smart choice going to tab s8 as it got LCD panel which won't suffer from burn in.

It got 8000 mah battery gives me 7 to 8 hours battery.
In past I also tried s7+ but problem with s7+ is it is ambled display and it will have burn in problem if you use it for long hours reading and s7+ is kinda laptop because of 12.4 inch screen but uncomfortable to hold for long time,
Conclusion :-
Go for tab s8 because it is 11 inch tablet and very comfortable to use, great form factor and it won't get display burn in as it is LCD Display.
Problem with tab s8 is when you turn on blue light filter it will turn screen yellowish which some people don't like at all but if you dim the brightness and won't turn on blue light filter then tab s8 is great choice.
Tab s7+ in my honest opinion is for those who wanna enjoy movies and occasional gaming and for laptop replacement only.
For students tab s8 is 100% perfect and tab s8 will get 4 os updates and 5 years security updates.
S7+ life is almost over and it won't get updates at all.
So, go to tab s8 with full confidence :))))))

Hi, if I'm going to use I for college purposes, should I buy this one or the S7+?
In Amazon both have almost the same price (this one is cheaper than S7+)...
I would like a screen that have a low minimal brightness to read with the lights off...
The S7+ looks like could have a more lower minimal brightness, but IDK, 6 GB RAM will be enough for me? I'll have a few PDF's open, a browser, maybe at the same time a MS Office app... and also, should I care about OS updates or no? The battery is enough for like 12 hours reading or scrolling PDF's?

The S8 is now my goto for most things and my S22 is linked so I can text email or call. This is better than my reliance on apple still learning will get there great tab 🤓👍 s22 not sure as it got android 13 🤔

I finally pulled the trigger on a Tab S8. I traded in one of my current two Tab S7 FE tablets with the $400 trade in deal. Which took the out of pocket price down to only $150 for the Tab S8
I really wanted to get two of them. But I wanted to make sure I could take advantage of the $200 trade in for any Galaxy Tablet, with a Tab S7 FE purchase, while it was active. So I could trade in my three Tab A7 10.4 (2020) tablets toward Tab S7 FE tablets. Since Samsung only allows a max of four trade ins at any given time.
So if Samsung offers the same deal or better in November/December, then I will trade in my other, older, Tab S7 FE toward another Galaxy S8.

Been using this tablet almost 6 months now n I'm overall happy with it. No, it is not meant for gaming. It is more for a all rounder productivity tool. The speakers r great. The screen is good quality but it is lcd... So yeah it is what it is... Oled vs lcd, I'll leave it as individual taste.

Go to device more now I have ditched apple , no innovation from them and the all important usb c is the best, S8 256gb 8gb 5g hands up best device S22 5g wish it had the snapdragon 8 gen 1 in uk only gripe 🤓👍

me, 11 Oct 2022s7 fe is heavy to use in my honest opinion and it gets less... moreOr just setup a hotspot, on your cellphone, if wifi is down. No need to pay the extra cost of a 5G tablet + cellular service if you also have a cell phone.
I have two S7 FE tablets, and was considering getting a third. But then I saw the Tab S8. I have three tab A7 10.4 tablets that I only paid between $60 and $80 for. And Samsung is giving $200 trade in for each tab A7 10.4. So I was thinking about trading in one of those for an S8. Then I could use the S8 in the bedroom. An S7 FE at each UHD TV location I have. And leave one Tab A7 for each of my two bathroom. I just need to wait until the sale price of the Tab S8 is a little lower.
Plus I want another tablet with WiFi 6E. The S7 FE has 6Ghz Wifi and I see so does the Tab S8. And since I recently got a couple of WiFi 6E access points, I would like to use that capability with more devices than my current two..

Got updated to 4.1.1 and np with anything. Calls&,texts to any device is good. Spen is handy. My note 10 plus and tab s8 are my devices. I had tab s5e and I find watching youtube, Netflix, prime video is great.
I'm glad I purchased this tablet.

I'm confused which to buy as S7 FE 6/128 (Wifi) or S8 8/256 (Wifi).
Use cases: Anime / TV series / Youtube watching, Torrent downloading, Manga reading, Internet browsing and some light gaming like Diablo Immort for 1-3 hrs daily.
Is S7 FE enough for my use case and long term use / software support or should I get S8 instead?
Which one has better screen (disregarding Refresh rate)?
Is 12.4 inch tab really heavy?
